FS 5 EPISODE 3

MY REFLECTION
Write down what you learned on what to do to ensure validity of tests. Did
you ever experience taking a test which was very difficult because the items
were not at all covered in class? How did it affect you? How will you prevent
your future students from experiencing the same?
Assessing students performance is never an easy task .To fulfill this
successfully, educators must be knowledgeable and capable to know the steps to
be taken and the strategies to be chosen in order to come up with the accurate
instrument in assessing student knowledge and performance.
Test (specifically written examination) is the most commonly used
assessment tool. Not only because it is easy to make and easy to execute but
also easy to interpret and analyze with the use of the quantitative data
collection. However we must be cautious in selecting the specific material to be
used to avoid erroneous assessment results.
Tests should be valid to ensure its effectivity. They should measure what
they are supposed to measure and should contain the scope of the whole course
of instruction. By assuring this, we will be confident that the garnered results are
less erroneous since this aspect is already guaranteed.
The easiest way to check validity is to check the connection of the item to
the objectives of the subject. Table of Specification is the object of comparison
since it contains all of the specific learning competencies. Quality is ensured if
this is fulfilled but if not, students performance will be greatly affected.
We encountered this dilemma several times during our early years in
college. Sometimes, we just find ourselves in shock when we face examinations
that are far from the topics we had taken up. This type of examination is more
than mind-cracking, it is nauseous because we dont know what to do and what
to answer. It frightened us because our grades may be at risk and this is probably
one great reason why students fear assessment.
This experience challenged me to be a better teacher. I dont want my
future students to be afflicted by the same burden weve been through because
of tests. I will make sure that my assessment tool is of the best quality by
ensuring its validity and reliability beforehand. I will also try do my best in
everything that I do for my profession so that my students will be equipped with
all the armors they need to face the real world without fear.

MY REFLECTION
Reflect on this: Scoring Rubrics: Boon or Bane?

Scoring rubrics are important part in the assessment process.

This tool is used when any other tool like paper-pencil test is not
appropriate to be utilized. It is effective for assessing performances
and products because it establishes a standard for scoring subjective
outcomes.
Just as any other assessment tools, this is not perfect nor
blameless. It can only be used in certain circumstances and serves
several uses but if I were to decide whether this is boon or bane, Id
strongly support the first one.
It helps educators in rating works and performances fairly. The
criteria listed and their corresponding values becomes the basis in
rating and computing learners grade in a particular activity.
Through this tool, biases can be avoided and thus, conflicts
regarding students grades will be reduced. If it so happens that
conflicts arise, teachers can easily show their proof because the
rubric is a strong evidence of learners performances.
This is advantageous because its function cannot be filled in by
any other assessment tool. It is unique in its own way and that
uniqueness defines its own importance.

MY REFLECTION
Based on the teachers program, your observations and your interviews,
would you now see teaching to be full time job? Why? Why not?
Answer:
Based on our observations and interviews with the teachers, I can see
and say that teaching is a full time job. This is a profession that requires
passion, perseverance and industry. Teachers work even beyond the
mandatory hours of work. There are no time-outs for them. They even stay up
at night just to plan their lessons, compute grades and accomplish piles of
paper works, then wake up early in the morning to go to work. It is exhausting
and stressful, but what keeps them going is the happiness they feel when
students learn something from them and the heart-warming gratitude and
love which is given back by the students. More than the money, this is more
rewarding because it pays back all the efforts they exerted just for children to
learn. Their work engraves a mark on peoples hearts and surely that will
never fade.
How do you feel about the teachers workplace? Are the conditions healthy
for the welfare of both the learners and teachers?
ANSWER:
Teachers workplace is fun, exciting and at the same time, it is
stressful. But despite that negative trait, school is still healthy for both the
learners and teachers. For students, it is the best training ground where they
can hone themselves to be successful individuals and for teachers it is a
place where they practice profession and a place to improve themselves to be
better than they used to be.
Do you find the relationships of the teachers and the learners pleasant?
Explain your answer.
ANSWER:
Yes, I find the relationship of the teachers and learners pleasant
because it is just like a simulation of a family with students as the children
and educators as the second parents. They share and show concern to each
other and teachers learn to understand their learners more. Through their
interaction, a better version of methods and approaches were made because
they can see the strengths, weaknesses and necessities of the learners. A
stronger bond also builds a positive learning environment which leaves the
feeling of acceptance among students and the freedom to express
themselves boldly.

1 Describe the data that you have gathered from your community
survey.
Make a short narrative below describing the data which you
gathered. Present 1 2 pictures of the community or barangay in your
photo essay.

2 Make a narrative report on the interview that you have done

with the teacher.

School-Community Collaboration
View of a teacher

Through this interview I came to realize that teachers play a very

important part in the whole system of the society. They are the foundation
of learning and aside from their usual task in the academe, they still take
part in the community around them.
They are flexible and versatile people who are capable of doing
multi-tasking. They never get tired of helping and reaching out to those who
d are in need of service. Industry and compassion is reflected by their deeds
and it's one reason why I chose this profession, because I had seen
something so special in them that no other individuals can ever do nor
impart.
I salute them not just because of their will and determination to
mold the future generation, but the greatness of their heart that they share
to humanity.
