Reflective Statements for Part II of Certification Portfolio

Artifact: Annotated Bibliography

Standard 6- Telecommunications and Information Access

The competent teacher will use telecommunications and informations and

information-access resources to support instructions.

6A. Knowledge Indicator- The competent teacher knows how to access

telecommunications resources to support instruction.

Performance Indicators-The competent teacher:

6B. accesses and the uses telecommunications tools and resources for information-
sharing, remote information access and retrieval, and media/hypermedia
publishing.

6C. uses electronic mail and web browser application for communications and for
research to support instruction.

6D. uses automated, on-line search tools and intelligent agents to indentify and
index desired information resources.

The standard wants me to be able to have information resources available to assist with my
instructions. Though it can be helpful and useful for learning, teachers should not rely on
technology fully in the classroom. Teachers should be knowledgeable about a subject area when
technology is used. If a teacher were to show a video it would be important for that teacher to
make sure he discusses the video before and after it with students. This helps them make
connections with what the class is learning. Teachers should not abuse technology devices by
using them in ways that less technological tools can be used. Teachers should make sure that
they are keeping their students updated with the latest telecommunication ideas. It has been
proven that these things encourage learning and offers students better understanding of learning
material.
2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and

application of the standard.

The artifacts I chose were several websites, journal documents, and online gaming material that

helps students learn mathematical facts. Addition and subtraction were two main topics I used to

look for resources. While exploring different resources it was interesting to note the things

teachers need to stay updated with so that students are learning most efficiently. Students are the

current target for technology. Statistics prove that students are spending a lot of time using

technology on a daily basis. So, if technological things are used most often by them, they should

be able to learn from them as well.

3. A If the artifact has been used in your practice, reflect on how your teaching will

change in the future to further meet the standard.

B. If the artifact has not been used in your practice, i.e., a class assignment,

reflect upon how your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.

With this assignment I believe my teaching will be affected greatly. In the sources that I found I

was able to look at many things that offered a way to bring technology in lives of students. If I

am able to remember all of these things in the future it will benefit me and my class. This activity

shows us that technology cannot be dependent on solely to teach. It is up to the teachers to take

what they find and make it relevant to student’s capabilities and understandings.
4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and

Learn in a Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

In a diverse classroom where students range in their abilities to do math facts, I believe it is

important for the instructor to have materials that all students can work on. There were several

articles that specifically discussed children with learning disabilities and things teachers can do

to help them learn addition and subtraction skills. Computer games are also very big in the math

subject areas, these games offer hands on learning that is fun for students and requires only a

basic understanding for all students to be able to play.
