Optional Mark reading photocell

1.1 FUNCTION OF THE FILM MARK READING PHOTOCELL

By using this optional photocell it is possible to set the distance between the "mark" on the
centre-folded film and the point at which the sealing takes place. Depending on the type of
packaging machine purchased (angular sealing (FP6000-FP6000CS-FP8000CS) or
continuous longitudinal sealing (FP500HS-FP500HSE) install the kit provided by carefully
following the procedure described below.

1.2 PHOTOCELL ASSEMBLY

1) FP6000 - FP6000CS - FP8000CS
-

Position support 1 on which the photocell is assembled by means of screws 2 using the
holes made specifically for that.

Fig. 1.2.1

2) FP500HS - FP500HSE
-

Position support 1 on which the photocell is assembled as shown in the figure and then
secure it using screw 2 and handle 3.

Fig. 1.2.2

1.3 PHOTOCELL POSITIONING

Adjust the photocell using the handles 3 shown in Figure 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 based on the position
of the mark on the film.

1.4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTION OF THE PHOTOCELL

To electrically connect the photocell to the packaging machine you need to unplug the
connector 28.X2.7 which is located in the area shown in the figure and using the appropriate
Y-connector which is supplied connect:
on side 1 the mark reading photocell (28.B.9)
on side 2 reconnect the connector 28.X2.7

Fig. 1.4.1

CHECKING CORRECT CONNECTION OF THE PHOTOCELL

Depending on the packaging model purchased (angular sealing or continuous longitudinal
sealing) it is necessary to check that the film mark reading photocell is properly connected.
1) with models FP6000-FP6000CS-FP8000CS-FP500HSE it is necessary through the
operator panel:
insert the 2 level PROGR password
access the menu DISPLAY DATA and scroll the parameters within it until you see:
INPUT SLAVE
2
CONNECTOR J10
00000000

(for the model FP500HSE see INPUT SLAVE 3)

check that the detection signal of the photocell is fully active by passing a hand in front of the
photocell to test it. At the highlighted field below, the value 1 must appear temporarily.
INPUT SLAVE
2
CONNECTOR J10
00001000

Optional Mark reading photocell

2) with model FP500HS it is necessary through the operator panel:

through the "VIEW DATA" menu, access the sub-menu shown in the figure, and then check
on the module DIO16 3 (22.DIO.1) that when you pass a hand in front of the photocell the
LED P03 turns on.

Fig. 1.4.2

Fig. 1.4.3

1.5 ENABLING THE PHOTOCELL

To enable the mark reading photocell access the "INSERT PASSWORD / ENABLE ADJUST"
menu and insert the following password:

LT+program version
Example: If the software version of the packaging machine is 5.04 the password to enter is
LT504.

1.6 PHOTOCELL ADJUSTMENT OPERATIONS

Place the mark below the photocell and press the photocell button once and check that a
flashing red light turns on. Next, move the mark out of the reach of the photocell and check
that the red light goes off.
Put the mark below the photocell again and check that the light comes on again.
If there is an error in the detection of the mark by the photocell repeat the above procedure.

ADJUSTMENT OF PHOTOCELL OPERATION BASED ON THE PRODUCT TO BE

PACKAGED
1 - Select the OPTIONS menu and set the parameter FILM MARK OFFSET to 000.
FILM MARK OFFSET
[mm]
xxx
2 - Measure the distance in millimetres between the two reference marks present on the reel
(e.g. 350 mm)
3 - Measure the length of the pack to be packaged (e.g. 270 mm)
4 - Access the FILM REGULATION menu and set the parameter FILM ADVANCE with the
required distance between the front sealing and the product.
5 - Similarly access the FILM REGULATION menu and set the parameter FILM DELAY with
the required distance between the rear sealing and the product.
6 - Access the PACK menu and insert 270 mm in the PACK LENGTH field. (the sum of the
values set in "FILM ADVANCE", "FILM DELAY" and "PACK LENGTH" must be equal to the
distance between the two marks, as in the case of the example 350)
7 - Select the MANUAL operating mode and make sure the film is brought into the sealing
area.
8 - Enable the AUTOMATIC operating mode and activate the packaging of a pack.
9 - Through the DISPLAY DATA menu read the value shown in the parameter FILM MARK
OFFSET detected by the photocell and enter this value in the OPTIONS menu in the
FILM MARK OFFSET field where in the initial phase the value 000 was set.
10 - Package another pack to check that the film sealing takes place in the same position. Reactivate the packaging to check that the cutting and sealing of the film takes place in the
same position, otherwise modify the previously set value (FILM MARK OFFSET
parameter).

Note - Remember that if you want to bring forward the cutting of the film it is necessary to
decrease the value set.

1.7 CENTRE-FOLDED FILM REEL WITH PRINTS

If, when packaging with the SMIPACK models of the FP6000-FP6000CS-FP8000CSFP500HS-FP500HSE series, you want to use a centre-folded film with print, you need to follow
the directions listed below.

1 Choosing the film type

Select the film type and thickness that is most suited for the product to be packaged.
Calculate the band of the film reel as a function of the product size using the following
formulas:

Reel Band = Width W + Height H + 100 mm (per Hproduct <100 mm)

Reel Band = Width W + Height H + 150 mm (per Hproduct >100 mm)

RUNNING DIRECTION

Fig. 1.7.1
W= 200 mm

H= 100 mm

200 (W) + 100 (H) + 100 = REEL BAND 400 mm

2 Calculating the ideal bag size

Adjust the packing machine in accordance with the product dimensions in order to calculate
the the ideal bag size.

Fig. 1.7.2

Fig. 1.7.3

Once you have the ideal bag size measure its length. The measurement obtained must be
used as the distance between the reading marks of the film.

3 Print features
10

The printed side of the film reel and also the mark must be inside. By winding the film on the
rolls of the winder and on the squares, the print will remain on the outside.
The mark must always be on the open side of the film and must remain on the top flap so that
the photocell can detect it.

4 Positioning mark on film

The mark must be positioned 50 mm with respect to the edge of the bag with the desired
dimensions. The ideal size of the mark is 5x30 mm.

Fig. 1.7.9

5 Positioning of the print on the bag

You must consider the margins at the sides of the bag which will reduce the usable print area.
These margins will be used for the heat shrinking process of the film. Each margin is equal
to 1/2 h product.
The remaining area useful for printing can be completely used. You can choose the print
position (centered or decentered) as required.
To choose the print type, the settings related to the film, please contact your supplier.
