MIXING CHAMBER PROJECT REPORT

Objective: The objective of this modeling project was to create assembly of Mixer that could
successfully be printed in 3D printer.
Introduction:
We were given a project for designing a mixing chamber with two inlet ports and one outlet port.
It includes an agitator blade that mixes the fluids. The energy is provided to the whole assembly
by the assistance of the handle located at the side end of the assembly container by letting one
port of either ones open independently and simultaneously. The project that was made, its's
overall assembly model and its parts with their individual drawings are given below:There are various components which were created for making the required assembly. The
detailed list of the components is as follows:
COMPONENTS:
1. Container/ Tank:
The first part that was created is the container of the overall assembly
which accompanies the agitator and other parts in it. The 3D Multi Views of this
Container are given below:-

The above part was made using extrusion commands after sketching the circle and then
sketching the circles for creating holes on its sides. The 2D view with justifiable dimensions is
given below:

2. Agitator:
The second part that was created is the agitator of the overall assembly which
accompanies the pins, modified piston head along with the connecting rods and other
parts in it. The 3D Multi Views of this agitator are given below:-

The above part was made using multiple extrusion commands after sketching the main body
using multiple circles commands and sketching a fixed pattern for making three connections of
piston movements on cranks .The 2D view with justifiable dimensions is given below:

3. Pin 1:
The third part that was created is the pin of the overall assembly which is utilized for
supporting the piston head with the connecting rods which will be discussed and shown
later. The 3D Multi Views of this pin are given below:-

The above part was made using simple extrusion command after the sketch. The 2D view with
justifiable dimensions is given below:

4. Follower body :

The fourth part that was created is the pin of the overall assembly which is
utilized for supporting the piston head with the connecting rods which will be discussed
and shown later. The 3D Multi Views of this pin are given below:-

The above part was made using multiple extrusion commands after drawing the sketch. The 2D
view with justifiable dimensions is given below:

5. Handle:
The fifth part that was created is the Handle of the overall assembly which is
utilized for providing the input power and torque to the system. The 3D Multi Views of
this connecting rod are given below:-

The above part was made using extrusion command and offsetting the planes after drawing
multiple sketches. The 2D view with justifiable dimensions is given below:

6. Roller:The sixth part that was created using the extrusion command is the roller that rolls
on the cam to open and close the ports. The 2D views with dimensions are given below:

The above part was made using multiple extrusion commands and offsetting the planes with
sketches after drawing multiple sketches. The 2D view with justifiable dimensions is given
below:

7. Agitator Blade:

Agitator blade mixes the fluids in the mixing chamber. It is rotated by the
rotational motion of agitator.

Agitator blade was made by using simple extrusion and Cut extrusion commands. The 2D
views with justifiable dimensions are given below:

8. Follower head:
Follower head prevents the follower from getting out from the ports thus it is a crucial
part of the system. The isometric view of follower head is given as:

Fig (15) Follower head Isometric View

Follower head is made by simple extrusion command. But the command is used two times to get
the required design. The 2D views with complete dimensions are given below:

9. Pin 2:
This pin is used to connect agitator blade with agitator. It prevents the relative motion
of agitator blade and agitator.

Fig (17) Pin 2 Isometric View

Pin 2 is also made by using extrusion command two times. The complete dimensions are given
in following 2D views:

10. Agitator Support:
The last part of assembly is the agitator support. It supports the agitator assembly
so that the agitator could not bend under the action of weight and other forces.

Fig (19) Agitator Support Isometric View

It is made by Extrusion command. The 2D views with complete dimensions are given below:

11. Final Assembly:
The final assembly of the mixing chamber with 3 ports (2 inlets and 1 outlet) is given
below. The handle is used to input power which is then transferred by agitator to various
components of the system and finally to the agitator blade.

The assembly was made by assembling all the parts shown above in the ASSEMBLY MODE
of the solidworks. Then all the parts were linked together by MATES (Concentric, Parallel,
Tangent, Cam and Distance).
