SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

Christmas
Christmas is one of the most popular festivals in the world. It is celebrated for the birth of
Jesus. It is popular with non-religious people, especially in countries with large numbers
of Christians. The Roman Catholic Church has defined the Christmas season as starting
on the evening of Christmas Eve and running to the Sunday after Epiphany, Which is the
commemoration of the Baptism of the lord. Christmas Eve or Christmas day, is usually
celebrated with a feast to celebrate the holiday. The Christmas season begins at sundown
on 24 December and lasts through sundown on 5 January. The calendar dates for
Christmas and Epiphany are the same in the eastern and western Church.

Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday celebrates the rising of Jesus from the dead, three days after his
crucifixion. Easter Sunday is celebrated with a Mass on the evening of Holy Saturday,
which is the final Saturday that falls in between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Easter
Sunday, is usually commemorated with a feast. It is the most important feast in the
liturgical year. Many According to the Gospel of John in the New Testament, Mary
Magdalene came to the tomb where Jesus was buried and found it empty. An angel told
her that Jesus had risen. Christians worldwide have celebrated Easter for centuries. Easter
Sunday falls on a Sunday, which is a non-working day in countries such as Australia,
Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. Government offices and schools are
closed in countries where Sunday is a non-working day, and business activities are
limited.

Good Friday
Good Friday is a holy day that is immediately precedes Easter Sunday, and is meant to
commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. For the Roman Catholic Church, Good
Friday is a fast day which also includes abstinence, where as fasting is the reduction of
one's intake of food, while abstinence refers to refraining from meat (or another type of
food). The Catholic Church teaches that all people are obliged by God to perform,
because for their sins. The purpose of fasting is spiritual focus, and self-discipline. With

most major Roman Catholic festivals, it is also marked by several other Christian
denominations. The occasion is highlighted by a special church service.

Ash Wednesday
The day Lent begins, forty days before Good Friday. It is a day of penitence to clean the
soul before the Lent fast. Roman Catholic, Anglican, and some other churches hold
services at which worshippers are marked with ashes as a symbol of death, and sorrow
for sin. The use of ashes, made by burning palm crosses from the previous Palm Sunday,
is very symbolic.
