Day 2: Relativity, Quantum Physics, and Vacuum Energy

If you are a scientific or engineering-minded person like me, and you observe or experience
energy healing or mystic/spiritual phenomena, you may ask yourself: where does the energy
come from?
Good question!
Whether were talking about a small miracle, such as my frozen elbow healing instantly, or a
big miracle like Vianna Stibals tumor instantly vanishing or the deadly cancer cells
completely vanishing from my Moms body between the biopsy and surgery, we know enough
about the Laws of Physics to know that the energy has to come from somewhere. In spiritual
circles, we call it Source Energy or Creator Energy God or The 7th Plane. But there is
actually a scientific basis for this concept: its known as vacuum energy, or zero-point energy.
Fortunately for us, science fiction has picked up on this. For example, in the movie and TV series
Stargate, they use alien technology known as a zero point module that is smaller than a
football but provides enormous amounts of energy, more than all the power plants on Earth put
together!
Modern quantum physics recognizes this vacuum energy, but because the amount of energy in
the vacuum is so mind-bogglingly large, they have to resort to mathematical sleight of hand to
eliminate this vacuum energy so that the equations of quantum physics balance properly. The
justification for ignoring the vacuum energy is that the vacuum energy has no effect on the
physical world, and so it is eliminated by a process called renormalization. Essentially,
renormalization involves add an arbitrary constant to the equations so that they balance properly.
And if youre thinking to yourself, Hey thats cheating!, you are absolutely correct
conventional scientists are literally throwing a rug over the vacuum energy because it is
inconvenient and cant be properly explained by their theories.
Even worse, the assumption that this vacuum energy does not affect on the material world is
actually incorrect! Experiments have been performed (and reproduced) that demonstrate that
vacuum energy actually does have affect on the physical world. The way that this vacuum energy
affects the material world is known as the Casimir Effect. (If you are curious to learn more

In order to continue our discussion of the science behind the miracles, we need to introduce one
more concept from physics known as the Planck Distance. A non-technical definition is that
the Planck Distance is the smallest thing that can exist in the Universe. The Planck distance is
defined as approximately 1.616x10-35 meters, which represents the time it takes a photon (i.e. a
particle of light) to move a distance equal to its size. This is an inconceivably small number
written out it looks like this: 0.00000000000000000000000000000000001616 meters.
Scientists have found that it is simply impossible to measure anything smaller it is a
fundamental boundary that can never be broken (at least by creatures of our size), because at
such a tiny scale the quantum fluctuations caused by the Uncertainly Principle are so great that
you literally cant make any measurements any smaller. (If you need a refresher on uncertainty

Long story short, in order to get their equations to work, physicists added up the total amount of
Planck energy or quantum fluctuations in a cubic centimeter of space to determine the exact
energy density of the vacuum. What they found is that one cubic centimeter of space contains the
equivalent of 1093 grams. Thats a ten with 93 zeroes after it- wow! Written out, it looks like this:
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000 grams of vacuum energy per cubic centimeter of space.
(Remember that mass can be converted into energy, or vice-versa, according to Einsteins famous
equation E=MC2 where E is energy, M is mass, and C is the speed of light.)
So, in case you are wondering, yes, the cheat factor introduced to renormalize the equations of
quantum physics is far, far larger than the other components in the rest of the equation!
In case that number doesnt blow you away, realize that the amount of energy in the ENTIRE
UNIVERSE is only 1055 grams. In other words, there is WAY more energy in one cubic
centimeter of vacuum energy than in the entire Universe.
And in case its been a while since you were in math class, note that 1093 is not roughly twice
1053 written out, the vacuum energy is just one centimeter of space is actually
100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000 times bigger than the amount of energy
present in all the mass in the entire physical Universe. OMG!
Heres another fact that will blow your mind: there is enough vacuum energy inside the tiny, tiny
space of one single proton to create a black hole and collapse the fabric of space time into a
singularity. Wow!
If youre a fan of popular science, you know that the Holy Grail of science in the 20th and 21st
centuries has been the unification of General Relativity (the science of the very big) and

Quantum Mechanics (the science of the very small.) The reason that so many brilliant scientists
have spent decades unsuccessfully trying to unify the equations of quantum physics and
relativity is because theyre been focused on the wrong thing: theyve focused on the stuff in
the Universe (atoms, molecules, chemicals, rocks, dirt, water, people, planets, stars, galaxies,
black holes, etc.), rather than the space between the stuff.
But it is exactly this space between the stuff, and the mind-bogglingly large amount of energy
present within it, that is what we work with when we do energy healing.
Whats really going on is that it is the vacuum or the space truly is the source of everything,
including all matter and energy, even dark matter and dark energy. On a fundamental level, it is
the negative space that not only defines but creates the objects within it. And while science has
had great success in explaining and mathematically modeling how the stuff in the Universe
works, it has run into seemingly impossible barriers because to go any further requires a deeper
understanding of the nature of reality. And to do that, we have to look at the empty space!
Its difficult to articulate these principles into English, but heres how I understand it:
conventional science focuses on (almost exclusively) viewing physics and the natural world as
stuff that exists within space, and through the scientific method we can create theories that
predict how the stuff works and do experiments to prove and refine the theories. This approach
has gotten us to where we are now, but in order to go further, we have to take a different
approach, and instead focus on the nature of space, and how the folding or dividing of space
according to certain patterns is what fundamentally creates the stuff such as the atoms and
molecules that we are made of.
If youve been around the spiritual/holistic/Law of Attraction for a while, youve heard many
times that we are all connected and everything is one. If that is the case, then there must be
something that connects everything. And there is just one thing that connects EVERYTHING in
the Universe: empty space!
