Lesson: True stories?
Type of lesson: acquiring new vocabulary; practicing listening comprehension and
communication skills.
Skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening.
Purpose: The lesson aims at assuring communication directly in the target language,
engaging the Ss in conversations about strange events, true or made up. Exercise grammar
notions: the Simple Past and its use in telling stories.
Techniques: listening to a cassette recording, question and answer exercise, conversation,.
brainstorming, dialogue.
Organization: individual work, pair-work, whole class.
Materials: textbook, laptop, notebook, board.
Aims:

A3. to develop Ss speaking skills- talking about something that happened, true or made up.

Warm-up

The T greets the Ss and they greet the T back.

The T checks the Ss homework orally, encouraging them when it is required and
allowing them to self-correct if necessary.

The T states the title and the objectives of the lesson, raising the Ss curiosity.

Then the T asks the Ss if they believe that UFOs really exist, and how they look like.

The T asks the Ss to read the questions in exercise B to raise their attention and to
help them focus and looking for answers as they read the text.

The T asks the Ss to read in turns the text Close Encounter? Unknown words are
translated.

In order to make sure that the Ss have understood what the text is about, the T asks the
Ss to solve exercise C in pairs, and then go through the answers with the whole class.

The T plays a recording of a boy who tells two stories about himself. The Ss must
decide whether the stories are true or made up. Discuss on the topic.

Read the text in exercise E.


The T writes the words on the table: first/ then/ next/ after that/ finally. Then she gives
one S a ball and he/she has to make a sentence to start a story then throw the ball to
another s to continue and so on until the story ends. Meanwhile another S will write
the sentences on the table. At the end of the game we will read the story.

In pairs, the Ss will be asked to tell a story. The class will decide if it is true or made

up.
