STATEMENT ON HEALTHCARE VOTE
EUREKA - Following the vote FOR ASSEMBLY
in Congress on the healthcare package, California FORStateASSEMBL
Assembly candidate Karen Brooks issued the following statement:

“Congressional Democrats can now celebrate their enormous victory in passing a
healthcare bill for the estimated 32 million uninsured. California, and the nation, are still
struggling to recover from a horrible recession, close to record unemployment and an
economic downturn, caused by a housing bubble, government bailouts and out of
control deficit spending. The fact remains how will this trillion dollar program be paid?
 
The passage of this bill places the financial recovery of our state at risk, considering
that in some places of California we are beginning to see a recovery in housing prices; a
sigh of relief to depressed homeowners. The passage of the healthcare reform bill may
mean health insurance to many, but it does not solve the ultimate need of providing
access to quality healthcare.
 
In the meantime, we will continue to have government tell us, the people, what to do,
instead of a government that is accountable by the people. As the dust settles on this
historic healthcare package Californiaʼs families are going to have to seriously adjust
their household budgets in order to pay for this enormous entitlement program.”
 
Karen Brooks is a  30 year resident of Humboldt County and is currently running for
State Assembly in the First Assembly District, representing Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity,
Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma Counties.
