The Alcatel-Lucent 10GigE Media Dependent Adapter (MDA) with tunable optics enables software selection
of wavelengths when interconnecting the Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) with DWDM
transport equipment. It enables the MPLS-enabled Carrier Ethernet platform to interconnect directly with DWDM
systems, eliminating the need for external optical transponder shelves and reducing the complexity of sparing
and configuration, which directly results in CapEx and OpEx savings for service providers, cable MSOs, mobile
operators, Internet service providers, application service providers, and industry and public sector (IPS) customers.
Initial configuration and implementation of configuration changes within the transport network are also greatly
simplified. When deployed in conjunction with Alcatel-Lucent metro optical transport equipment, innovative
Wavelength Tracker technology would enable end-to-end tracking of the identity and optical power of
DWDM wavelengths, with the ability to adjust and balance optical power at each point in the transport network.
