Dear friends,
Last Sunday, I noticed – as you probably did – the
large number of children in worship. Some of them
have been attending here since they were infants, since
the day they were dedicated before the congregation,
and the congregation, in turn, pledged to support and
nurture them. Others of them have come more re-
cently, some having been invited by their friends. By
accepting them and welcoming them in worship, we
have also agreed to support and nurture them.
Earlier this spring, our General Minister Sharon
Watkins talked about the children in our midst when
she spoke in Orange. She said that when we dedicate
ourselves to nurture these children, we are making a
commitment to represent Christ to them. That commit-
ment doesn’t end as the children grow. Our commit-
ment to nurture them and represent Christ to them con-
tinues when they run through the halls, spill crumbs on
the floor, or climb on the stage. It continues when they
bring a boyfriend or girlfriend to worship, when they
are too tired from football to attend worship, when they
begin questioning their faith, or when they go off to
college.
That commitment includes modeling for our chil-
dren how to live in Christian community, showing
Christ’s love to one another. It includes working for
wholeness in the lives of our children, and encouraging
them to work for wholeness for the world.
I was recently told about a conversation that took
place among the Heavenly Halos, our children’s choir.
While preparing a song to share with the congregation
on Mother’s Day, it was suggested to them that, at
church, there are many “mothers.” After thinking
about this for a moment, the choir members agreed.
“Yeah, there are.”
Then they were asked, “Well, who is like a mom?”
Their response: “Oh, we have lots!”
To all of you who have been a mother to our chil-
dren, guiding them, nurturing them, educating them and
loving them, thank you. You have helped make us the
church family that we are. And, Happy Mother’s Day!

ers, this prayer is offered to the congregation as a
resource for personal prayer and devotion. Use it
during your daily time with God, as you pray for
our ministry. Use it however you like, and let us
know if this prayer is meaningful to you.
TITANIC OVERDUE IN NEW YORK
The White Star ocean liner TITANIC is overdue in
New York and feared lost.
On her maiden voyage, TITANIC left Southampton,
England on April 10, 1912. At 46,000 tons and 883
feet long, this ship is the largest one built for the
North Atlantic crossings. Her capacity is 2,566 pas-
sengers with a staff of 900. TITANIC has four eleva-
tors for passenger use, three in first class and one in
second. For the First Class passengers, there is a
gymnasium with the latest in exercise equipment
including mechanical camels and horses, and rowing
machines. A swimming pool and Turkish bath are
also available. True Edwardian dining with eight
courses for First Class. Second Class and Third
Class are superior to other lines.
The BKCC Men’s Group is proud to give a taste of
the grandeur of a crossing on such an elegant ship
with their Mothers’ Day Fellowship Hour.
One of the items of silver was actually used on the
movie set of TITANIC and a prize will be given to
the Lady who guesses which one.

I want to thank everyone at BKCC and friends
(especially C.W.F. sisters) for their prayers, thoughts
and cards.
In regards to my husband Robert (Bob). He had a
triple bypass heart surgery about a week ago. He is
recovering slowly. He has been transferred to
Marlora Acute Rehab Center located on Anaheim St.
in Long Beach.
Just knowing that so many prayers have been offered
on our behalf is making it easier to face whatever
comes our way.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. May God richly
bless everyone, and may God continue to bless
B.K.C.C. the leaders, ministers, Monica, and all who
do so much .

Storms and
Remembrance
Week of Compassion
has been busy monitor-
ing the damage caused
by storms across the
south. Our Church World Service partners report
that assessments of the damage along an 80-
mile corridor of destruction began a week ago
Monday following weekend tornados that killed
12 persons in Mississippi and Alabama.
Outreach to rural and small towns is just
beginning. AidMatrix and Coordinated Assis-
tance Network resources are in place. Volunteer
reception centers are in place in Yazoo City,
Choctaw and other locations.
In addition, this week’s storms in the
Tennessee Valley has left many areas underwa-
ter.
Church World Service is currently assess-
ing these situations and developing a response
which will likely include material resource re-
quests, requests for training, and disaster recov-
ery project development. Your support for

ing (benefiting Church World Service) is helping
make this relief work possible. Thank you!

Against the odds of being denied land and permits,
Chimiste Doriscar, a Haitian new church planter,
found a quaint site in Carl, Georgia that had 3.76
acres of land and a house. With a loan from Church
Extension, this property became the site of Centre
Summer Camp
Evangelique La Pierre Angulaire. The house is
now converted into a sanctuary with more than 100 2010
chairs for the congregation. The church, founded in
2002, is thriving, said Doriscar. "Sometimes we
have to add more chairs for worship."
In 2001, New Church Ministry was involved in the
planting of two Haitian congregations. Since then,
of the 657 new Disciples churches started in the
United States and Canada, 100 of them are Haitian
congregations. There is a certain connectedness
that is shared by those who are part of the new
church movement. It's a welcoming spirit of Disci-
ples kinship that reaches out to embrace all who
come to the table of worship to be joined together
