Truck ban on Hwy 5A?
Yesterday, Minister of Tourism/
Kamloops-South Thompson MLA
Kevin Krueger proposed a permanent
ban on large commercial vehicles using
Highway 5A. That’s after 4 recent acci-
dents in just a one-month period.
For years, residents living along the
hwy have been lobbying for such a ban
— or something to help make the road
safer. And tales of near-misses abound.
But a ban is not likely to sit well with
the BC Trucking Assoc. They don’t want a
precedent set that trucks could be banned
from public highways that trucks pay
taxes for. They are, however, urging
truckers to respect the communities and
operate safely & responsibly. With such

Cemetery ‘decimated’
Some residents visiting the
gravesites of relatives were in shock,
Tuesday evening, when they found the
Pine Ridge Cemetery completely devoid
of all flowers & mementos.
“Everything was gone, all the artifi-
cial flowers & mementos,” said the caller.
She said in places it looked like some
flowers had been shredded by a lawn-
mower, and she saw garbage bags filled
with the offerings, piled up against the
shed. The grass was neatly mowed…
She explained that her cousin from
Alberta had shipped 20 or so hand-
assembled artificial flower arrangements
a few weeks ago, which were laid at the
headstones of family members. Now
they’re all gone. Throughout the ceme-
tery, there were angels & photos, lanterns
& flower arrangements — people do that Mother’s Day pancake breakfast
