About Jaipur
Jaipur, also known as the Pink City, is the capital of the state of Rajasthan. It is an ancient city of India located in a semi
desert terrain. It is believed that Jaipur was Indias first planned city and was planned according to the 'vastushastra'
Page 1/12

(Vedic planning for the prosperity and comfort of citizens).

History of Jaipur
This city was built by the ruler of Amber, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II on 18 November, 1727. The architect of Jaipur
was Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, an architect from Bengal. However, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh himself also contributed to
the planning of Jaipur. Jaipur was a walled city, but presently it has expanded much beyond that.
The town is an example of Hindu architecture. It is built in the form of 'pithapada', an eight part mandala. Maharaja
Sawai Jai Singh II was a patron of astronomy which is quite visible in the city planning. He has used the number 9 or its
multiples quite significantly. 9 was symbolic of the 9 planets.
Apart from this, there are 9 rectangular city sectors on either side of the main bazaar or market. In olden times, there
was a palace complex where the main palace Hawa Mahal was constructed. This is known to be home of the queens
and the King, Maharaja Sawai Jai Sing II. Numerous gardens were built in the centre of the city.

People & Culture of Jaipur

Jaipur attracts numerous visitors from all over the world due to its historic heritage and rich culture. Besides forts and
havelis, the city is also known for its festivals and fairs.
The Jaipur Vintage Car Rally, held every year in January, has become an attraction of late. Vintage car lovers can see a
collection of cars like Fiat, Mercedes Benz, Austin, etc. some of which date back to the early 1900s.
Teej is a festival dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati of Sanatan Dharma. The festival is basically about
prayers offered by women for long and happy married lives. During the festival of Holi, elephants are painted beautifully
in different floral patterns and a game of elephant polo is hosted here. Other than this, there are the Chaksu Fair and
Gangaur Festival which are among the major attractions.
The Elephant Festival of Jaipur is an annual event which is held on the eve of Holi. The day-long festival celebrates the
majesty of the royal animal through cultural events and elephant processions. The Gangaur Festival is another
attraction. Gan refers to Lord Shiva and gaur refers to his wife, Parvati and the celebrations are symbolic of marital
bliss.
The Banganga Fair, an annual event, is held on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Vaisakh. To be held on 6th
May 2012, the fair is held in the historical township of Bairath in the Radha-Krishnaji Temple near a stream 11 km away.
Bairath is about 85 km from Jaipur and there are regular bus services from Jaipur to Maid, which is a few kilometers
away from Bairath.

Things to do in Jaipur
The Pink City of Jaipur is famous among visitors for its numerous attractions like Amber Fort, Sheesh Mahal, Ganesh
Pol, Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal, Nahargarh Fort etc. Adventure activities like paragliding, hot air ballooning, rock
climbing, camel riding and others can also be done here. Excursions can be taken to places like Bairath, Karauli,

types of Jaipur holiday packages which cater to all types of travellers.

Food & Shopping in Jaipur

Jaipur is famous for its non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes that are spicy and are mostly prepared using ginger,
garlic and onion. The popular regional dishes include dal bati choorma, bari and kebabs. Some of the popular nonvegetarian dishes are murg ko khaato, achari murg and kacher maas. Nehru Bazaar and Johari Bazaar are famous for
street food and small eateries selling non-veg delicacies.
The Bani Park region is famous for its vegetarian dishes that are served in traditional Rajasthani way. Snacks and

Page 2/12

There are many local shopping markets in the city that offer a wide range of carpets, metalwork, textile, pottery,
jewellery, gem and antiques. The famous MI Road is an ideal place to purchase artefacts, apparel, handicraft and
branded readymade garments. Bagru and Sanganeri textile block prints can also be purchased from the shops located
on MI Road.

Travelling to Jaipur
Jaipur is well connected by road, rail and air to major destinations in India. Jaipur International Airport or Sanganer
Airport is located at around 13 km from the main city. The airport is served by flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad,
Bengaluru, Chandigarh and various other cities. Taxis can be availed from this airport to travel to the city centre, which
usually cost about INR200.
Direct express trains and passenger trains are also operational between Jaipur Junction Railway Station and other cities
to reach Jaipur. These trains are available on daily basis and cost as per the travel class and distance. Taxis, auto
rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are available from the station which is about a kilometre away from the city centre.
Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) buses operating in the state connect with some of the major
locations in the country. Direct RSRTC buses are also available from Delhi to reach the Sindhi Camp Bus Stand in the
city.

Travelling within Jaipur

Jaipur is served by AC and non-AC buses operated by Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) that are ideal for
sightseeing. Taxis are easily available outside the railway station, Sindhi Camp Bus Stand and the airport and typically
run on metres.
The city also has prepaid auto rickshaws operating within, which are available for short trips and can also be booked for
the entire day. Cycle rickshaws are available for travelling shorter distances within the city.

Travel Tips for Jaipur

Though taxis run on metres, it is always good to ensure that the metre is on or to negotiate the fare before travel. In the
case of tour guides, it is better to opt for government authorised ones for authenticity and safety.
Summers in Jaipur are extremely hot and if visiting during this time, tourists should carry light cotton clothing,
sunscreen, hats and umbrellas to protect themselves from the heat. Drinking plenty of fluids to stay hydrated is
necessary. In winter, the days are pleasant but the night time temperatures go below zero, so adequate protection is
necessary.
While shopping in the bazaars around Hawa Mahal and other places, bargaining is necessary. If there is time, it is also
good to explore around a bit before picking up goods.

Accommodation options in Jaipur

Hotel options in Jaipur include budget, medium, luxury and deluxe hotels. Tourists visiting Jaipur can also opt for
other accommodation options, ranging from heritage hotels, hostels to 5 star hotels.
Majority of the hotels in Jaipur are spread across the main city and near the Jaipur Junction Railway Station. Youth
hostels, guesthouses and homestays are another major accommodation options available in the Pink City. Some of the
famous budget, luxury and medium range hotels are situated near Bani Park, Vaishali Nagar and other prominent
tourist destinations within Jaipur.

Featured review about Jaipur

It was a great time in pink city
"I'm going to share my experience about first time in pink city that is Jaipur. We three of friends reached Jaipur from
Kota approx in the mid night, our train wast stop on platform no 3. When we three of reached at the main gate of station
we saw their is rush at midnight also not seen mostly in Kota.. We then took a room in hotel which just 1km from the
Station. In the morning we decided to go to see Hawa Mahal, we borrowed a auto to reach the destination, in this we all
saw that the Hawa Mahal is situated at the main bazaar of Jaipur, which is the much busy, when we look towards Hawa
Mahal 1st we saw a long wooden open gate at the main entrance of Hawa Mahal, when we go towards gallery we saw
a, 2, -3 stall of Rajasthani dress, many of them borrowed dress to took a picture within Rajasthani get up, we all thought
how in ancient times make such huge Mahal without the use of cement, we all of them much happy to saw these
monuments. . After then we all went towards a restaurant, where ordered mostly Rajasthani food, which is more
delicious. On of them my friends pack 2 dish next he likes more after the full his tummy, Now we all of the decides to
climb the mountain which is seen straight from the Hawa Mahal. We when reach at the foot of the mountain, we simply
look at the top of the mountain and thought that we are possible to climb the mountain are, are not. But after full of Masti
we reach the top of the mountain. At top of mountain we saw a view which not seen by any of them in life, we saw huge
city which boundaries by wall at the end of city and a straight road passing though the middle of the city, from you all
things are able to see, I can not explain all the experience in words but simply said it is a wonderful fully experience or
delight full experience. We just only please visit Jaipur once in life time, and we also friends always try to visit once
again in pink city." - Sourav Kumar, , 3 weeks ago

Celebrated a great Diwali in Jaipur

"I had read a lot about grand Diwali celebrations in Jaipur and this year, we decided to experience it. I was mesmerized
to see streets, houses, monuments, bazaars and every place decorated with festive lights. The local misthan bhandars
(sweet shops) were flocked with residents and tourists relishing mouth watering sweets as well as savouries. I just loved
pyaz ki kachoris at Rawat Misthan Bhandar and other Rajasthani delicacies like daal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, mirchi
wada, lahsun ki chatni and lal maas. The number of pure vegetarian restaurants were relatively higher in comparison
with other cities of India. We went in November and climate was pleasant. The major tourist destinations like Amer fort
(also known as Amber fort), Nahargarh fort, Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal, City Palace Museum, Ram Niwas Garden and
Museum, Jantar Mantar, musical fountain at Jawahar Circle and other monuments boast of rich legacy and heritage.
The traditional Rajasthani dance shows are great and you can watch it at Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal and couple of other
places. Chokhi Daani has tried to bring most of the Rajasthan under one roof by hosting guests with traditional food,
dance shows, puppet shows, astrologers and other things that one can associate with Rajasthani culture. There is no
dearth of shopping avenues, there are plenty of malls and shopping at local bazaars is great. I look forward to go there
again :)" - Kanchan Kandhari, Mumbai, 4 weeks ago
Good & a nice place to stay for 2-3 days
"Visited Jaipur in Nov 2015, probably the best time to be there is Nov-Mar 2015.
Been there at various places Like:
1. Amber Fort - 2-3 hours quality time spent: Ticket price Rs 100, Free WiFi on registration, Good scenery from al
angles.
2. Jal Mahal - 15-20 Min stay for Photos only.
3. Hawa Mahal - 15-20 Min stay for Photos only.
4. Albert Museum - Don't need to go there as nothing much to see as per my understanding. entry ticket is 40 per
person.
5. Must Visit all markets Like, Babu market, Johari Market. Majorly I spent here.
6. LMB - Laxmi Mithan Bhandar - just heavy in price, not special in quality as per me.
7. Birla Mandir - can stay there for 30 min in general.
Page 4/12

8. City Palace - Entry is Rs 100, but mostly all places are either under renovation or not much to see except to take
some cool pics.
Hotel cost average range - 1000-1500 maximum, hotels in Jaipur are not much to offer you. Further food quality at
maximum places are bad" - Nikhil mahajan , Delhi, 4 weeks ago

Refreshing journey to Jaipur

"I visited it in the months of June. I enjoyed a lot I visited various places. Jaipur is capital of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is land
of kings, Raja stands for king and sthan stands for place. Jaipur is a very green and clean city. It is not a very big place.
There are many places to visit in Jaipur like Jal Mahal Amer fort Nahargarh Jaigarh etc. Besides this there is Choki
Dhani world trade park and many other malls which best for students and old people to go and spend evening. During
summers it is very hot sometimes it cross 45 degree and in winters it is very cold. Everyone must visit this place. You will
fall in love with this city.
Jaipur is the name of Rajputaana. This city is built with perfect map and under the observation of Vidhyadhar Shashtri
who was excellent civil engineer. Jaipur is fabulous tourist place and at here many hotels and residence or paying guest
room available for tourist and many other. At here from all over India and abroad many tourist comes and enjoyed its
historical place. At here many sightseeing seen like Aamer Nahaaragarh and lake palace and badi chopad choti chopad
albert hall bidla mandir and metro and zoo and most important Jantar Mantar all the place are fabulous and extremely
good. At here Jaipur police is provided full security and instruction about self defence. My recommendation to Jaipur
and please come and enjoyed in vacations.
I love streets of pink city. Whenever I was not in my boarding school, I was at home in Jaipur. Now things have changed
a lot yet its one of my favourite destinations in India. I travelled whole India( almost) and I can say if you are planning for
a vacation come to Jaipur, though most pleasant time is October- Feb, yet you may come to this place any time of the
calendar. This city has something to offer to every one.
Many very prestigious, Hindu shrines( Moti Doongri me Ganesh ji, Chandpol me Hanumanji, Tadkeshwer Mahadev,
Govind Dei ji ka mandir, Shila Mata Amber). The best lively all popular malls, conventional bazaars for bargain
shopping, Forts, palace, museums, zoo, Ramgarh dam, Jal mahal list is endless. I hear some unpleasant news about
criminal incidences, so I will request you to be alert.
Rajasthan police is efficient, if you face any untoward situation inform police without delay, by dialling 100 from local or
0141-100 from your outer number. You will get immediate help. You can have good time in as low as INR 800 only per
day, though I am an extravagant I spend 2-4k per day whenever I am in the city. This city offers great vacation option for
every budget group." - Aditya Singh, Agra, 1 month ago

Jaipur: The Pink City

"Jaipur, beautifully designed, planned, sculptured city of Northern India. The city itself is capital of Biggest State

This is pure example and motivation of Women Empowerment.
The city has Desert, which makes it even more beautiful. Camel in desert is main means of transportation. City, is well
