BOSTON BAKES FOR BREAST CANCER EVENT TO FUND RESEARCH

TO BE HELD MAY 2 -8 (MOTHERS DAY)
The 17th annual event is raising funds through the sale of desserts for young researcher,
Dr. Heather A. Parsons, MD, MPH
NEEDHAM, Mass. March 23, 2016 - Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for
breast cancer research and care is excited to announce that it will donate proceeds from its annual event, Boston Bakes for
Breast Cancer, to Dr. Heather A. Parsons, MD, MPH, a promising young breast cancer researcher and oncologist at DanaFarber Cancer Institute.
Each year, Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer enlists restaurants, bakeries and retail stores in over 100 communities across
Massachusetts to participate in its week-long dessert fundraiser. There are 2 simple ways that restaurants and bakeries get
involved: They offer one dessert from their menu and each time it is sold, donate 100% of the sales to Bakes for Breast
Cancer, or participants can decide to donate 50% of the sales of all of the desserts on their menu for the entire week
Through our partnerships with restaurants, bakeries and stores, we have raised almost $1,000,000 for breast cancer research
and care. This year, funds raised will be used to fund exciting research by Dr. Heather A. Parsons, MD, MPH, in the field of
biomarkers and breast cancer treatment founder and President Carol Sneider commented. Supporting research for this
indiscriminate disease is so important, particularly as federal funding decreases and young researchers are often overlooked for
funding and grants, notes Sneider.
Additionally, Rhode Island Bakes for Breast Cancer will be held across the Ocean State, May 8-14, and a specific event, Cape
& Islands Bakes for Breast Cancer will be launched this year, June 6-12.
Breast Cancer affects one in eight women, some with a family history of breast cancer and some without. Women of all ages
get breast cancer as do men. Last year over 230,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer and almost 40,000 of those
women died from the disease.
With our dessert-oriented events, everyone can do their part to raise funds to find a cure one sweet at a time.
