No. Rider DRG XC XC Time Show Total Welcome to the 2010 Inter-schools Horse Trials, hosted by Hunting-
Pen. Jump Jumping field Pony and Riding Club.

21 M. Denwer-Ripper The first Inter-School One Day Event was held on 7th June 1970
22 Kate Rafferty with Fahan, Collegiate, Hutchins, Hobart Matric College and The
Friends' School participating.
23 Brook Dambacher
Evolving from an idea that Debby Ward (nee Sutherland) and
other likeminded riders had that they would like to compete
against one another in School teams the first event was held at
Team Total the property of Mr. Tom Pearsall, “Huntingfield” at Kingston. Team
trophies were donated by the Lister and Quarmby families and a
Mount Carmel perpetual trophy for the overall winning team by the Sutherland
No. Rider DRG XC XC Time Show Total family. Mr. Tom Pearsall agreed to present the prizes with Mr. Oats
Pen. Jump Jumping the Friends’ school principal. The dressage test used was the Pony
Club No 3 Test, and the jumping heights were 2'10" for the Senior
25 Madeleine Way
riders and 2' for the Junior riders. The main point was to have fun
26 Georgia Brennan and allow the standard to be fairly low so that all schools involved
could put forward a team if they wanted to.
27 Isobella Grover
It was a great success and the Friends' Junior (Sarah Lister, An-
drew Sutherland, Deborah Quarmby and Alex Brettingham-
Moore) together with the Senior team (Rebecca Harrison, Simon
Team Total Blain, Deborah Sutherland and Kathy Anderson) were lucky
enough to win the Sutherland trophy. The Walch family from Fa-
han were enthusiastic about holding the event in the following
year at their property of Southlea. Anna Walch was the best rider
overall in the senior division.

So the annual event was born and the enthusiasm remains after
35 years of continuous competition. Progressing from 5 schools
with a total of 35 riders to over 20 schools and 130 riders compet-
ing over 2 days, the competition is now run by the Southern Zone
of the Pony Club of Tasmania in conjunction with the schools of
southern Tasmania.
