Uses:
There are three basic rules of the Future with GOING TO:
• to talk about planned actions where the decision has been made before
speaking.
• to express intentions. (We often use going to rather than will in informal
style)
The seaside
Tom: I’m going to dive everyday. I’ve got my snorkel, my waterproof camera, my
goggles and my flippers. And I’m going to do some water-skiing, too.
Sheila: I’m not going to dive. I’m going to build sandcastles and I’m also going to
pick up shells and pebbles. In the afternoons I’m going to paint them and sell them.
Then I will have money to buy ice-creams.
Mother: I’m going to sunbathe. I’m going to sit on a deckchair and read. I’m also
going to walk barefoot among seaweed covered rocks.
And I’m going to take some pictures, too. But, I think I’ve forgotten to bring rolls of
film.
Father: Don’t worry. Sheila is going to pay for the new rolls with all the money she
is going to earn by selling shells and pebbles. Are you going to earn enough money,
Sheila?
