Once the laboratory tasks are completed, the student is to show the answers to the Labs to
the trainer to obtain signoff. Modifications may be required, so the student is to ensure the
tasks performed meet the requirements.
This assessment is done during the allocated laboratory/tutorial sessions or can be
completed offsite and brought to the lab for inspection.

This is an open book written assessment. You are to answer all of the following questions.
Make sure you:

Written assignment
You need to review the following resources, and then complete the questions below
1. What is the name of the Safe Work Australia code of practise that provides
guidance on how to manage the risks of electrical equipment in the
workplace?
Ans :The name of the Safe Work Australia code of practise that provides
guidance on how to manage the risks of electrical equipment in the workplace
Officers.
gain an understanding of the hazards and risks associated with the
operations of the business or undertaking
2. In the code of practise referred to in question 1 (hint: there is a download
link in the link 1 article that enables you to download and review the code
of practise) what are the four steps of the risk management process?
Ans. The four steps of the risk management process are as follows :
Identify the hazards
Assess the risk
Control the risk
Review the control measures
3. What are two things you can do to manage risks associated with electrical
equipment in the workplace (see section 3 of the code of practise)?
Ans :- Persons conducting a business or undertaking will have health and
safety duties to manage risks if
they: engage workers to undertake work for them, or if they direct or influence
work carried out by workers.
may put other people at risk from the conduct of their business or
undertaking.
4. What does MPLS use instead of a destination IP address to forward data
between routers across an MPLS network?
Ans :- IP networks are connectionless: when a packet is received, the router determines the next
hop using the destination IP address on the packet alongside information from its own forwarding
table. The router's forwarding tables contain information on the network topology, obtained via an
IP routing protocol, such as OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, RIP or static configuration, which keeps that
information synchronized with changes in the network.
5. True or False? MPLS only works with IP networks.
Ans.:-True
6. What is the major function of Label Edge Router (LER) in an MPLS network?
Ans:- The major function of Label Edge Router (LER) in an MPLS network are
as follows :
LERs respectively, push an MPLS label onto an incoming packet and pop it off
the outgoing packet. Alternatively, under penultimate hop pooping this function
may instead be performed by the LSR directly connected to the LER.
8. What are the names of the three operations (corresponding to add a tag,
remove a tag, and exchanging one tag for another) a router can perform on
a tag in an MPLS network?
Ans
Push
Pop
Swap.
Yes.
10.
Give one example of a technology that could be used to implement a
point-to-point WAN link between two devices.
11.
ANS .
Ans . Clocking usually necessary over serial links because it can transmit less data
per clock cycle, it is often the case that serial links can be clocked considerably faster
than parallel links in order to achieve a higher data rate. Several factors allow serial to be
clocked at a higher rate.
15.
List three organisations who are active in defining and publishing WAN-related
standards.
16.
Ans . Path selection:- Path selection involves applying a routing metric to multiple routes to
select (or predict) the best route.
17.
List three different types of hardware that a router would typically have.
Ans . The three different types of hardware that a router are : Edge router
Subscriber router
Inter-provider border router
18.
Ans:- Routers use flash memory, rather than disks, for storing information.
19.
Ans:- The router backup/start up configuration usually stored is Non-Volatile RAM (NVRAM)
20.
Ans:- Flash memory, rather than disks, for storing information. Flash storage media is
significantly more expensive and slower than disk storage, but the amount of storage needed to
Page 14 of 17
run a router is relatively small compared to the amount needed to run a general-purpose
computer. Flash also has the important benefit that it tends to be more reliable than disk storage.
21.
Ans : There are two reason that router have multiple power supplies are:
The first is power unit failure.
The second is electronical storm and power surges
22.
If I want to connect to a router console port from a PC, what port do I use
on the PC and what type of Cisco cable do I need to use?
Ans : If I want to connect to a router console port from a PC, pin one on other connector
and pin eight on other connector port do I use on the PC and RJ-45 is the type of Cisco
cable do I need to use.
23.
What is meant by out-of-band management as it applies to Cisco
routers?
Ans :-
out-of-band management
In computer networks, out-of-band management involves the use of a dedicated channel for
managing network devices. This allows the network operator to establish trust boundaries in
accessing the management function to apply it to network resources. It also can be used to ensure
management connectivity (including the ability to determine the status of any network component)
independent of the status of other in-band network components.
24.
What port(s) on a router would I typically use for out-of-band
management of routers?
Ans .RS-232 port on a router would I typically use for out-of-band management of
routers.
25.
Give a brief example of a situation where a network engineer would need
to use out-of-band management for a router.
Ans.:- brief example of a situation where a network engineer would need
to use out-of-band management for a router as follows:
Consider a networking application that tunnels data from a remote data source to a remote destination.
The data being tunneled may consist of any bit patterns. The sending end of the tunnel may at times
have conditions that it needs to notify the receiving end about. However, it cannot simply insert a
message to the receiving end, because that end will not be able to distinguish the message from data
sent by the data source. But using an out-of-band mechanism, the sending end can send the message
to the receiving end out of band. The receiving end will be notified in some fashion of the arrival of outof-band data, and it can read the out of band data and know that this is a message intended for it from
the sending end, independent of the data from the data source.
