Meet Isabelle!
Girl of the Year Isabelle Palmer is a talented girl who loves to dance! She and her friend
Luisa attend a performing arts school and take dance classes together every day.
She discovers her own way to shine.
Isabelle has another talent that is all her ownshe likes to design clothes.
With help from her mother, she creates costumes for herself and the other dancers.
These days, Isabelle and Luisa are preparing for a special performance, and that means lots of
rehearsal. At the ballet barre, they work on their technique. They hold the barre, stand straight
and tall, and focus on their form. Plus they have new choreography to learn! Sometimes its during
rehearsal that Isabelle gets inspiration for a new design. For this performance, she wants to create
graceful costumes that will help her express the mood of the dance.
She watches Luisa practice pirouettes (peer-oo-ets) center stage. Hmmm, thinks Isabelle.
Luisa reminds me of a snowflake that sparkles as it spins and drifts across the sky.
When Luisa finishes, Isabelle pulls her aside. I have a great idea for our costumes, she says.
We need to look as airy and weightless as snowflakes. As Isabelle takes the stage to practice,
her heart fills with joy. With each step of the routine, she feels lighter and happier.
Even though shes tired, she could go on dancing for hours!

Isabelle has a sense of style all her own. Fashion design is another way
to express herselfjust like dance! She loves to visit flea markets to
shop for supplies. She searches out floaty fabrics that will move with
the dancer. Her genuine style helps her find her own spotlight.

Luisa is trying so hard to learn the choreography for their next
production, but she just cant get it. How can Isabelle help her
friend? What should the girls do?
Isabelle needs to design a costume that shell wear in
the schools recital. The theme is The Four Seasons.
What ideas does she have? Does something funny happen?
Its time for Isabelle and Luisa to perform. Pick out music for
them to dance to. How do the girls feel as they wait to go on
stage? How do they feel while they dance, and when they
finish? Does Isabelle see someone famous watching from
the audience? What happens next?
