is purely on spreading technical knowledge and suffusing enthusiasm in minds to
work for the greater good of man. Bringing together the best minds from
industrial and academic worlds and providing a platform of interaction with them,
Amalthea promises to entice every prospective engineer. Providing an avenue for
showcasing innovative products developed at IITGN, we see the best technology
being incubated here in the years to come. Moving minds with intellectual
stimulation like no other event could is where we see Amalthea in a few years.

A11: INFRASTRUCTURE IN INDIA: Present Scenario & Future

Infrastructure refers to the basic physical and organizational structures needed for the
operation of a society or enterprise, or the services and facilities necessary for an economy
to function.
AMALTHEA 2011 aims at discussing all aspects of Infrastructure which is the present need
of the hour for India. AMALTHEA aspires the infrastructure brains to come together under a
single roof and build some of the greatest innovations and discuss the real picture of
infrastructure.
Objectives of AMALTHEA 11:
Bringing together an entire spectrum of experts, from industry leaders and top
scientists to academicians, to offer insights into the entire plethora of opportunities,
which development of Infrastructure technology promises.
Stimulate minds of the participants and explore ways to approach the solutions to
present problems in Infrastructure development in India.
Explore upcoming promising technologies that have tremendous scope for

Amalthea 2010
The main focus of Amalthea 2010 was the Energy Conclave on "Non-Conventional
Energy, its importance and scope. The Energy Conclave had mainly focused on
educating the students through a series of lectures by speakers and delegates from
industry and research academia. Various facets of the transformation from
traditional sources to non-conventional energy sources were discussed. We had
mainly distributed the entire conclave into three sessions: Solar Energy, Wind energy
and Bio-fuels and also on entrepreneurship. We also had organized an interactive
debating session as a concluding part of the program.

Debate and Discussion Session at AMALTHEA 10

On the brink of completion of the two-day
conclave, an enthralling Discussion and Debating
session was held, hosted by Yogita Limaye, Senior
Correspondent, CNN-IBN. The debaters consisted of
leading industry experts, esteemed academia and
top government officials. Some of the esteemed
panelists were Mr. Jayesh Buch (Resident Director,
Essar Group), Mr. Maheshwar Sahu (Principal
Seceratary, Industry and Mines), Professor N.
Jotwani (Director, School of Solar Energy), BC Jain
(MD, Ankur Scientific), Siddharth
Bhandari
(Managing Director, Electrotherm Renewables), Dr.
Omkar Jani, (Scientist and Managing Director,
Kanoda), Mr. Vagmin Buch (Director, GEDA) and
Prof. AG Iyer (Editor-in-Chief, Enertia). It was a
riveting discussion, with an intense exchange of
ideas and clashes of viewpoints. It was a treat for
the audience to watch the intriguing discussion on one of the most vital topic of todays
concern, the Energy Crisis. It had the industrialists saying one cannot survive without
coal while the academicians argued that coal has to be considered as a thing of the past
and the way forward was Solar and Wind. It was overall a huge success and can only get
bigger and better from here on.

10

Success of Amalthea 2010:

The conclave lectures were compelling and extremely enlightening for the
students. It stimulated the minds of the participants, and provided them with an
inflow of ideas, which broadened their perspectives.
Amalthea 2010 was successful in establishing strong contacts with the industry and
increasing the visibility of IIT Gandhinagar among the industry leaders and top
academicians.
Impressed by the proficiency of the two day conclave, several internships have
been promised by sought-after companies like Price Water House Coopers (PWC),
Essar, Tata BP Solar, Applied Materials, Suzlon and IOCL.
Besides acting as a learning hub for the students, Amalthea also acted as a
rendezvous for the industry experts, by culminating a large number of industry
heads under a single roof. It instigated a lot of interaction between the heads of
different industries, and led to an exchange of ideas between them.
