SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS
A. Over-all Description of the Barangay
1. History of Barangay Somoroy
In the critical post war era, the natives of Barrio
Canunghan, the former name of Barangay Somoroy , felt
the need for transformation into a barangay.
From 1959-1960, Barrio Canunghan came out of its
shell to become Barangay Somoroy under the vigorous
initiative of Pio Merida, the Municipal Mayor during that
time in the Municipality of Bobon.
Of the 18 barangays of the Municipalty, Barrio
Canunghan which is now popularyknowa Brgy. Somoroy, is
one of the critical Barangays of the said town. It is nested 6
kilometers away from the town proper, one of the oldest
barangays of the municipality, and a home to many early
known people as Verino Morino, Elou Cuanico, Esco
Lagapac, Toregoy Morino and Ceferino Moreno.
From 1956, to the present, Barangay Somoroy has
gone through tangible social and political growth and
developments. It has transformed from a simple barrio to a
Barangay in 1960 by virtue of the power vested on Mayor
Pio Merida. Appointed by him, Atencio was the first
Teniente del Barrio.
Dramatic changes in leadership took place. Alongside
with the peoples need of a peaceful and progressive
barangay, they exerted efforts to choose their leader who
is believed to be worthy. After years of leadership, Atencio
was succeeded by Captain Mollejon. A year after his
election, the barriohanons installed Sergio Agasang into
office as their Barangay Captain. He served the barangay
for several years.
