5. BUGFIXES IN R5A00
These defects present in previous revisions have been corrected in R5A00.

5.1 HBER, LBER, EW DETECTION

The HBER, LBER and EW alarms are not detected in METRO 155Mb/s systems and XPAND 75xE1/96xT1
systems with 28MHz (ACAP) channel bandwidth configuration. Other bandwidth configurations for these
systems, 28MHz, 40MHz and 50/55MHz are not affected. Other capacities are not affected.
The defect was introduced in SW-EVOLUTION-R4B and is present in R4B00, R4B01 and R4B02 revisions.
The defect has been corrected in SW-EVOLUTION-R5A.

5.2 G.826 PERFORMANCE CALCULATIONS

G.826 performance calculations for the STM-1 Line Interface Unit may not be correct for SES/UAS. The
calculation of SES/UAS on the Line input has included alarms from the output direction on the unit. Thus
fading below radio threshold over the radio hop may introduce erroneous SES/UAS values on the Line Input
Side.
Cumulative Error pulses on the Line input are not affected by this defect.
The defect was introduced in SW-EVOLUTION-R3B and is present in R3B, R4A, R4B00, R4B01 and
R4B02 revisions. The defect has been corrected in SW-EVOLUTION-R5A.

5.3 MANAGEMENT IP ROUTING SUBNET MASK

When adding Static Route the subnet mask can not be set 0.0.0.0.
The defect was introduced in SW-EVOLUTION-R3B and is present in R3B, R4A, R4B00, R4B01 and
R4B02 revisions. The defect has been corrected in SW-EVOLUTION-R5A.

6. INSTALLATION OF R5A00 PACKAGE

6.1 PROCEDURE
Note:
Do not upgrade from Release1 or Release2 on a running system. Upgrade from Release3 and Release4
is OK.
This SW package contains a whole new licensing scheme. Upgrading from Release1 or Release2 package to
Release5 will cause traffic down. New licenses have to be installed in order for the system to come up and
operate normally again. In order to install the licenses when traffic is down, one has to be at the site.
Note1:
This SW package contains new versions of FPGA codes compared to R3 and R4. Updating will therefore
cause a traffic break. Link may be out for up to 3 -4 minutes, depending on configuration. Please also note
that the link may first come up and run for a short period (minute) and then be out again for a short while,
before running normal again.
Download Procedure:
Use Web GUI to download to element. You need admin privileges to be able to download the new package.
Select Configuration Software and the SW Download tab. Select the first tar file for the R5A00 package.
The package contains four tars.

Figure 1: Downloading tar file

Depending on what versions is on the active and inactive, the software installer will minimize the need for
transfer between web client and element. If the software is not complete after first tar, you have to choose the
second tar file. If the package becomes complete on the element, you are allowed to switch the software.
Use the SU SW Versions tab and click on Switch Software tab. The SU will restart, so the connection to the
WEB server is lost. You should be able to log in again after a short while.
Please note that with SW version R4Bxx information about the current SU is stored in the IFU Basic Frame.
As a result the SU has to be activated after the first restart running R4Bxx. Press the Set Current SU active
button displayed in figure 2.

Figure 2: Activating the SU after SW switch

The new package contains new revisions of XCVR Appl. SW as well as XCVR FPGA code. Both files will
be downloaded to the XCVR unit automatically. Please note that this may take several minutes to complete.

7. KNOWN PROBLEMS
7.1 OSPF ROUTER
There is a known intermittent problem with the resolution of inter area routes
if an area connects to the backbone through more than one Area Border Router(ABR).
In this case routing may fail if multiple ABR's announce the same inter area destinations at different costs.
Workaround:
Use one ABR until a new SW version that fixes this problem is released.

7.2 T1/E1 WAYSIDE CAN ONLY BE INSERTED IN ONE CHANNEL PR. IFU BASIC
FRAME
Support for 2 channels will be available later.

7.3 XPAND UPGRADE

Unused XPAND PDH channels in R4A (or earlier revisions) results in enabling of unused ports and thus AIS
and LOS alarms after upgrade.

7.4 DCC ON LIU STM-4/OC-12

On the STM-4/OC-12 Line Interface Unit only D1-D3 can be configured for DCC management interface.
D4-D12 and single 64kb/s channel is not operational.

7.5 GIGABIT UNIT AND NEAR-END LOOP ON RIU 311

Near-end loop on the RIU in 311Mb/s systems for the Gigabit Unit (GIU) does not work properly. This
defect is only for the GIU in system with 311Mb/s channels.

7.6 GIGABIT INTERFACE UNIT (GIU) AND 2+0 311MB/S IN ONE IFU BASIC FRAME
2+0 configuration with Gigabit Interface Unit using one single IFU Basic Frame is not supported in R5A00.
The following systems are valid for the Gigabit Interface Unit when running 311Mb/s channels:
1+0, 1+1, HSB using one single IFU Basic Frame. Total capacity 311Mb/s over the radio hop.
2+0 using two IFU Basic Frames. Total capacity 622Mb/s over the radio hop.
