Assignment #4
Dance is a powerful weapon known to only a few. Dance has been passed down for many
years and used in many different ways and for many different reasons. The most amazing fact
about dance is that there are many different genres and types of dances for example, we have
ballet, tango, contemporary, flamenco, hip hop, and many, many more too many to actually
count or remember but not just different genres of dance but many cultures and religions use
dance as a weapon or as tradition as I stated before there are many different types of dances.
Particularly a company named La La footsteps who produces and promotes different
performances and pas de deux. It was a Quebecois contemporary dance group in Canada They
began and were active between 1980 and 2015 the company is best known for its energetic,
acrobatic style and athletic physical contact. They even had a signature move called The barrel
jump and it required movement in the air they even collaborated with rock musicians, like
David Bowie, David Lang, and Frank Zappa not only them but many more eventually in later
years specifically 2015 it was announced that the company had been disbanded owing to
insurmountable financial difficulties. Although the company had its financial difficulties it still
made an impact with all the amazing performances they produced specifically a pas de deux
that was performed by Scott Serafin and Sara Loder professional dancers this dance was
performed on April fourth of two thousand one at the Toronto opera house named Elementary
particles This pas de deux was choreographed in movie by Summer Lei Seur and as stated
before produced by the company named La La Foot Steps this performance had many details.

In this performance there is a white Caucasian young thick not fat woman with short light
colored hair and she is wearing a purple dress, the dress is a bit open in the front it makes her
look very muscular and she appears to be in her twenties she looks young. Her partner is a
white Caucasian young man. He also looks to be in his twenties as well, he has dark hair, he is
slim, tall, and he is wearing a black shirt and black pants they are preforming a pas de deux
while both being barefoot. The dance starts off with the young woman named Sara Scott; she is
in a curved posture while sliding her arms on top of each other in a free flow roll onto stage left.
She then crawls on the floor moving to the center of the stage. The young male then leaps up
off the ground in a percussive skip. The couple then moves on to gliding at the center of the
stage in a symmetrical meter. Now they are swaying in circles across the stage. They start
following each others steps in a strong tempo at the same rhythm they begin to kick in and out.
They start sliding each leg backward and forward while doing so they are looking at each other
while swaying their arms. They look at each other with a fierce look as if they are passionate
about each other. The note value of the music is low and staccato. They both move down to the
ground on their backs on stage right moving their legs up in the air in a light rest. They now
stand up at the same time and at the same time the music begins to speed up and the tempo gets
heavier. They do hand movements along with that and they do them at the same time together
most of the pas de deux is them performing the movements together at the same time. After
motioning their hand movements in unison they begin to do a few spins at the center of the
stage while stretching their arms away from their body at this point the music is speeding up
even more giving a sign that the performance will be over soon. The young couple gets on their
knees and look at each other in a fierce way one more time except now it looks as if they are
studying each other. They get up finishing off the dance with the male behind the female and

her standing in front of him they skip each foot from left to right at the same time and finish the
pas de deux. This pas de deux gave an interpretation that the couple that was performing were a
couple who were in love and passionate about each other, The way they are moving together at
the same time and not only that but the way they look at each other gives a sense that they are
in love and only focused on each other there were many moments were they would pause and
study each other. Another detail about this pas de deux that gives the impression that they are a
couple who are in love is also how they perform most of the movements together at the same
time in unison which shows that they are most likely connected emotionally and physically the
conclusion to this pas de deux is that this is a love story.
