About AMIA
The AMIA association (Advanced Materials Industrial Association) is the group of
companies joined with common goals in the area of basic research. The goal of t
his proven form of cooperation is to constantly listen to the needs of our indus
trial partners, allow them to actively influence courses of our research and bui
ld a productive environment and relations. Our objective is the establishment of
common grounds for individual cooperation on specific technical issues of indiv
idual companies.
History
The AMIA association was established in 2013 as part of the Copernicus program w
hich aimed at the support, development and systematic cooperation among the Tech
nical university of Liberec, science-research organizations and business and pub
lic sector.
After the finalization of Copernicus in 2014 the association AMIA grows, improve
s its technological and research base, including growing members base and aims to
become the largest Czech university-industrial research association.

Why become involved
The AMIA association meets twice a year. Current research topics, realized advan
cements and future topics are presented to our partners and candidates for partn
ership. A significant part of the meeting is the visit to laboratories, in which
a practical part of research and the utilization of research results is present
ed. You have an opportunity to gain more information and experience in close com
munication with our research staff, and get to know our laboratories, equipment
and research projects.
Research staff and the head of departments further present their new topics of b
asic research, including the current state, goals and schedule of completion. To
pics of your choice gain appropriate priority and financing.
Voting
Each membership disposes of several votes, which can be invested into new topics
according to one s wish. In case of full interest into the research topic by a si
ngle company, such topic receives full financial support up to the sum of compan
y s contribution and the company gains exclusive rights to the research results.
Contractual research discounts
Each company which decides to become member of the AMIA association gains a disc
ount for all research activities conducted under the Institute for nanomaterials
, advanced technologies and innovation at the Technical University of Liberec.
In case of full membership the discount reaches 15% of the research price.
In case of associate membership the discount reaches 10% of the research price.
Faculty
The research is conducted mostly at the Institute for nanomaterials, advanced te
chnologies and innovation at the Technical University of Liberec. Our institute
roofs research staff from most of the TUL faculties. These are predominantly the
faculty of machinery, textile faculty and faculty of mechatronics, informatics
and interdisciplinary studies.

Principles
Membership in the Association is governed by a contract. The association offers on
e or several levels of membership. Members support the association by a yearly f
ee (firm share of costs).
Association bodies: The highest body is the Board of member companies.
Relationship with the university: The association exists in the framework of the
university s (Institute CxI) organization structure. No new legal entity is creat
ed.
The association does not create any formal relations between its members.
Patent policy
The basic principle is the priority of association members to patent research re
sults of all projects supported by AMIA. Rights to the intellectual property cre
ated exclusively by the university employee in the scope of association projects
belong to the university/CxI. Association members receive non-exclusive license
without charge to use these results for their own inner research-development no
n-commercial activities.
Rights to the intellectual property created exclusively by the association membe
r employee in the scope of association projects belong to the respective member
subject. University/CxI will receive non-exclusive license without charge to use
these results for their own inner research-development noncommercial activities
.
Rights to the intellectual property created collectively by employees of the ass
ociation member and university employees belong collectively to the respective m
ember subject and the university/CxI.
Inventions/advancements of the TUL must be immediately announced to the Active n
etwork s members. During 30 days of receiving the notification, members must submi
t in writing their interest to license these results (i.e. sign a license contra
ct with the TUL) and participate financially on the patent application.
Members participating financially on the patent application and on the patent re
tention receive option on the supply exclusive license for commercial production
, use and sale of corresponding products and processes (limited exclusive licens
e). Such option must be used during 6 months from the first acknowledgement of t
he patent by a respective office, otherwise it cannot be used. These members in
such case receive non-exclusive license without charge for commercial production
, use and sale of respective products and processes. Such license is available t
o other members of the Active networks, for a fee, even if they did not contribu
te to the patent fees.
Publishing policy
Research results supported by projects are possible to publish unless no partici
pant raises objections (for example in the interest of patents) within 30 days o
f receiving the notification from the research party about their intent to publi
sh such results. The research party is liable to send such notification to Other
participants via electronic communication, at the latest 30 days before the sub
mission of their inputs (manuscript) to the publisher for publishing.
Confidentiality
Research results and information about research activities supported and created
by the Active network are all confidential. It is not possible to publish or ot
herwise provide the research results or information to the third party by any fo
rm (verbal, written, electronic) without the consent of all Active network s parti
cipants.
