Abstract This paper describes the design of an
antenna array with microstrip coupling, based on two
rectangular antenna with cuts in the corners,
designed to operate at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz two
frequency ranges considered among the major
network applications local area network (LAN).
This design has two vertically antenna polarizations
and horizontal

I. INTRODUCTION

t present, the development of wireless

networks has grown significantly, mainly due
to declining prices of networking equipment
based on the IEEE 802.11 family of
standards, the easy integration of these with existing
wired networks. And why is due to the emerging need of
the current mobile communication systems support
multiple wireless services has increased antenna
development work with greater bandwidth and resonate
at various frequencies. Moreover, since the invention of
the microstrip antenna and due to its characteristics of
flat profile, easy fabrication and integration in
microwave devices, low cost, this technology has gained
great popularity in the field of wireless communications.
Especially, there is considerable interest in the
development of dual microstrip antennas, which are
useful for operating on two different frequencies, which
are too far apart for a single antenna. The antenna design
has been made in consideration of different techniques
such as: the simple stacking of two circular patches and a
stack of two annular rings. In most applications it is
required that the radiation pattern, polarization and
impedance are similar but not identical in frequency
bands of operation.
In this paper, the design of the dual antenna based on an
array of rectangular patches (RMSAs, for its acronym in
English) with direct coupling is developed.

The parameters to consider in the design of a
rectangular patch antenna are operating
frequency (fo); dielectric constant of the
substrate (

r ), and height, h (or thickness,

t) of the substrate. With these parameters, the

patch size can be calculated using equation
[1], to calculate the width of the antenna (W):

The length and width of the ground plane (and

substrate), Lg and Wg is given by the

Material: FR-4, with a thickness of 1.6

Dielectric permittivity equal to 4.
Loss tangent of 0.015.

The depth of the cuts at the corners is 1/8 of

the wavelength of the group. Coaxial and
linear polarization power is used.

The design of the rectangular patch, you will

make some changes in the geometry to
improve performance, in particular the value
of the gain by implementing small cuts in its 4
