Internship Application
DESCRIPTION
The International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) is looking for risk takers from
around the world. Our interns work directly with our department leaders in order to gain
experience in operations management, project development, technology (web development),
and marketing. All internship positions are unpaid.
Each intern will select the department most relevant to their interest:
The copyright department makes policy decisions regarding the compliance of archived
items. New files are processed for rigorous copyright review in three different territories the United States, Canada, and the European Union. The copyright department works
closely with composers and publishing companies to ensure proper compliance with the
law. Interns will gain understanding of the music publishing industry, communicate with
living composers, and collaborate with various libraries around the world.
The library department oversees the organization of the website. Each new work is
categorized according to a specific set of rules determined by the MLA and the Library of
Congress. Interns in this department will learn how to research a composition to correctly
identify the genre and instrumentation. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to
compile work lists, scan/upload scores and parts, and understand the daily work required to
preserve an archive.
The community department is the engine behind new project research and development. It
also controls public relations and social media. Interns will become involved with two
projects in particular - the Open Minds video series and IMSLP Education. Interns will gain
experience working with artists and management companies, become involved with press
coverage and video production, and learn the intricacies of engaging one of the world's
largest classical music communities. In addition, interns will work with academic
institutions worldwide to develop IMSLP Education.
If you are a highly motivated, risk-taking free thinker with a vision to change the world
through positivity, please join us. Lets create the future of classical music together.
