MARk 12:28-34 (niV)

VeRSe 1
O, how He loves you and me,
O, how He loves you and me,
He gave His life,
what more could He give;
O, how He loves me,
O, how He loves me,
O, how He loves you and me.

One of the teachers of the law came

and heard them debating. Noticing that
Jesus had given them a good answer,
he asked him, Of all the commandments, which is the most important?
29
The most important one, answered
Jesus, is this: Hear, O Israel: The Lord
our God, the Lord is one. 30Love the Lord
your God with all your heart and with
all your soul and with all your mind and
with all your strength. 31The second is
this: Love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no commandment greater than
these.
Well said, teacher, the man replied.
You are right in saying that God is one
and there is no other but him. 33To love
him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength,
and to love your neighbor as yourself is
more important than all burnt offerings
and sacrifices. 34When Jesus saw that
he had answered wisely, he said to him,
You are not far from the kingdom of
God. And from then on no one dared
ask him any more questions.

Confession of Sins
Almighty and Most Merciful Father, we
come before You, acknowledging our sins,
our shortcomings, and our breaking of our
Covenant with You.

Not only are we guilty of that, O Lord; but we have also closed our eyes and
pretended not to see the injustices, the racism and the evil which pervade our
everyday lives.
We have shut our ears and pretended not to hear the cries for liberation which
come from the lips, lives and hearts of the oppressed even our own Black
brothers and sisters!
Forgive us, O Lord, renew our courage and faith, and keep us ever mindful of Thy
great sacrifice. Hear us, we beseech Thee, as we come to You in love and worship
giving Your Name the praise forevermore.
******
To All Our Visitors ... To all who mourn and need comforting ... To all who
are friendless and want friendship ... To all who are oppressed and need
liberation; and to whosoever will come, Trinity opens its doors. Thank you
for coming, and may God bless you.

The Brothers of

Isuthu

There is possible no more critical responsibility within out community than the proper nurturing
and cultivating of our young Black men. ISUTH is a ministry of men of Trinity United Church of
Christ who have developed and implemented a "Comint Into Manhood" program for the young
men of Trinity UCC. This program welcomes young men, ages 8 through 18, who seek Christian
mentoring, inspiration, and cultural and social awareness, as they move toward manhood.
They work with the young men of Trinity UCC and the community, and while mentoring is
certainly one aspect of what they do, these brothers go deep. One meeting may be focused on
conflict resolution; the next may discuss how to effectively work with law enforcement and our
legal system. The brothers teach our young men about wealth creation and stock investing, and to
appreciate their health and how to care for their bodies.

Of course, it's not all simply instruction. They take ample time to enjoy each other and to
develop relationships. Annual baseball outings and other field trips are an important part of their
programming.
On Saturday, April 23, 2016, the parent support group of Isuthu hosted a surprise celebration for
these wonderful brothers/mentors. They certainly deserved it!
THANK YOU, BROTHERS, for providing that critical bridge between youth and manhood for
our young men!

The Immabasi and Counseling ministries continue to raise awareness about mental illness. Even
Hollywood has occasionally incorporated specific disorders and the challenges of those impacted
by mental illness in story lines. Those fans of the television show, Empire, are aware that
the character, Andre, the eldest son of the main character, Lucious Lyons, was diagnosed with
bipolar disorder.
Did you know?
Bipolar disorders are:
o Real illnesses, and involve extreme shifts in mood (mania and depression) that
can be treated
Bipolar disorders are not:
o Moodiness, being overly emotional, having multiple personalities, being a
drama queen, violent, a choice, a sign of character weakness, a character
flaw!!!

The Beautiful ones

You cant get over, if you say you just dont care. Show me a boy
who stays in school and Ill show you a boy aware.
Prince, from his 1985 Pop Life single

Marva Collins, the superstar Westside educator who

died last year at the age of 85, often said that being a
celebrity isnt important; its what the children learn
thats important. An HBCU graduate, Ms. Collins
was a firm believer in the value of a teachers time
spent with a student. In the mid-70s, this incredible
visionary used her own pension money to open the
Westside Preparatory School, which started in a
university basement before moving to the second
floor of her home and eventually relocating to its own
building near Collins residence. Shortly after these moves, enrollment increased from 20 students to over
200 and the school became a global model.
One of her biggest fans was the rock star, Prince, who
in the early 80s, got wind of her work and quietly
supported her financially to the tune of $1 million.
Prince not only made the donation but also became
co-founder and honorary chairman of Collins National
Teacher Training Institute, created so Collins could
re-train teachers using her methodology of individual
attention, strict discipline, and love.
Never forgetting where he came from, Prince Rogers Nelson achieved musically what we at Endeleo
strive to see our children gain holistically: Complete control of their own destiny. Whether it be a
historically Black, four-year traditional or community college, our people must leverage education, think
entrepreneurially, create their art, and own it.
In a moving tribute to Prince, writer Marc Bernadin recently wrote words that could easily speak to Ms.
Collins legacy as well, when he said, Prince gave Black kids the license to be who they wanted to be, not
what society thought they should be.
We adore you both. Rest peacefully.
