The Organisation

Hear My Voice (HMYV) is an entirely youth-led initiative which offers Muslim Young People
innovative opportunities to make a real difference in their communities.

HMYV uses a unique approach when working with young Muslims including support in
project delivery and skills development. We also provide culturally and religiously sensitive
spaces for young people to connect their voices with other community members and policy
makers.

The West Midlands Advisory Committee

HMYV has partnered with Government Office West Midlands (GOWM) to establish an
advisory committee which will operate in the West Midlands on behalf of the young Muslims
who live in the region.

The committee will be a platform for active, passionate and dedicated young Muslims to
contribute positively to the changing dynamics of their communities.

As a member of the WMAC, you will act as a consulting body for GOWN and other decision
making organisations. You will develop the group so that it becomes one of positive
influence and adds value to all decision making it is involved in.

You will also be involved in delivering group and individual projects which positively address
issues affecting young people within the following key areas:

- Discrimination
- Social deprivation
- Lack of opportunities
- Identity crisis

These key areas of social concerns were identified following recent consultations with young
Muslims in the West Midlands. WMAC will aim to provide positive solutions to the issues
identified.

The WMAC Programme

The WMAC programme has been designed to provide a space for young Muslims to become
civically active in society, with the potential to become leaders of tomorrow.

Members of WMAC will follow HMYV’s six step programme known as ‘The Technology’. This
programme will run over a course 8 months and will be include:

- Residential
- Regular committee meetings.
- Drawing up of WMAC constitution including aim and objectives.
- Project delivery by whole committee addressing one issue from the 4 key areas
identified.
- Project delivery by individual members of WMAC, addressing one issue from the 4
key areas identified.
- Meetings with officials from GOWM and other decision making bodies in the West
Midlands and contribution to policy development process.

What will you gain from joining?

Through the course of the programme, members will have the opportunity to develop;

- Personal skills via skills auditing and training i.e. confidence building, presentation
skills, media skills, leadership skills etc.
- Developing new friendships with other committee members plus networking
opportunities
- Travelling across the UK, representing WMAC and your peers – with possible
international opportunities
- Building up your personal portfolio for future referenc.e

Upon completion of the programme, HMYV hopes that WMAC will become an independent
and influential organisation, working to make positive change in the West Midlands.

We are looking for young people who:

 Are aged between16 and 25 years.


 Are tomorrow’s leaders, thinkers, speakers and visionaries.
 Understand issues impacting young Muslims.
 Have ideas to bring about positive change.
 Have an interest in supporting youth-led work at a local level.

The applicant should have the following skills:

 Confidence in communicating with a wide range of people.


 An ability to listen and consider different views.
 An ability to challenge views.
 An ability to motivate others and take a positive role in the community.
 Creativity and drive to take forward new ideas.
