Objective
iSAGE will e nhance the s us tainability, compe titive ne s s and re s ilie nce of the Europe an She e p and Goat s e ctors through
collaboration be twe e n indus try and re s e arch. iSAGE have a powe rful cons ortium with 18 indus try re pre s e ntative s from
various EU production s ys te ms and s ocio-e conomic conte xts . The s he e p and goat s e ctor will be inve s tigate d be caus e it
is s e ns itive to ge ne ral s ocio-e conomic, de mographic, and e cological and marke t challe nge s ; ne ve rthe le s s , the proje cts
approach and re s ults will be made available and dis s e minate d to othe r EU live s tock indus trie s . The re fore , at the core of
iSAGE is a participatory approach ce nte re d on a multi-actor inte rnal and e xte rnal communication (WP) to build the proje ct
from the farme r le ve l. This approach will e ns ure re le vant is s ue s are addre s s e d and the proje ct outcome s are
applicable in practice and cre ate a farm-le ve l obs e rvatory and knowle dge e xchange ne twork on the s us tainability of
live s tock. This WP will als o as s is t thre e as s e s s me nt work package s that will de al with the s us tainability as s e s s me nt of
s he e p and goat farm s ys te ms and re late d s upply chains , with s ocio-e conomic de mographic and cons ume r tre nd
analys e s , and with the impacts of climate change . As s e s s me nt WPs will inform action WPs that will: (1) re de s ign holis tic
farming s ys te ms to be s t re concile the various de mands conce rning productivity, s us tainability and s ocie tal value s . (2)
ide ntify indus try s olutions that aim to improve s us tainability and productivity of s he e p and goat s ys te ms through
bre e ding, including ne w phe notype s linke d to s us tainable animal productivity. iSAGE, toge the r with s take holde rs and
e nd-us e rs , will draft a roadmap for furthe r re s e arch and policy making. The s take holde r groups will be the ke y playe rs
in dis s e minating proje ct outputs through cas e s tudie s and de mons trations to act as a blue print to othe r produce rs
acros s Europe and cre ate ne tworks to as s is t wide r imple me ntation of iSAGE outputs .
