Our God is an awesome God. Today I spent time in the
presence of one of my favorite contemporary theologians,
Leonard Sweet. lt was exciting for me because he is one
of those cutting edge thinkers who watches and interprets
the trends of our times; where the church is and where it
needs to be in reference to our changing, shifting culture.
He spoke on how we are called to Seize the Moment.
lnstead of bemoaning the fact that so many things are
changing, we should see the times that we live in as a
unique opportunity to spread the Gospel. The reality is
that this generation, our teens, grandchildren and grea!
grandchildren represent a mindset that is relationship
focusedJace book, l-pad, and twitter. Christianity is the
only faith that is based on relationships.
He believes that evangelism and discipleship are one in
the same. He says that God is always at work in the lives
of individuals. We are to see where God is working and
join Him. When Gods gives us an opporiunity to hear
someone else's story, we are to listen with our spiritual
ear to see what God is doing then we are to help that
person see God in their own life. He calls this nudging,
gentle moving this person towards God, The reality is
that most of us are in Christ because of all the times
people have nudge us towards the Lord. Our Sunday
school teachers, our family members, peers, and
colloquies have all at some point in time helped us to see
God.
As disciple evangelists, we study; we grow in our faith
and in our relationship with Christ. 0ur relationship
enables us to be in God's presence, to truly know him, to
follow Him. As we follow Him, we can see how He is
moving and working, We read the signs, We begin to
have the mind and heart of Christ. Christ's desire is that
all become a part of the Kingdom of God, His grace is
moving in people, drawing them unto Himself. He knows
that people desire to be in authentic relationships. We
then meet these people, hear their stories and show them
where Christ is, and help them to move in His direction.
That is what evangelism is and we can all do that, Will
you allow God to use you to nudge someone today?

Greeting Card Project.
Do you ever need a greeting card and would like it to be
different from ihe store bought cards? Well Ricky Evans
has good news. Very s00n we will have handmade cards
available for you to purchase. Various folks that stamp
and make handmade cards are in the process of creating
an assortment of cards. They will be housed in a box
called card box ministry, You will be able to purchase the
cards right at the church. We will do our best to keep the
box stocked with a variety of cards. You can purchase
them at the reasonable price of $1.00 each. More details
to come.
Delta Walkers
Starting Tuesday May 4h at 7PM in the church parking lot
(rain or shine), you are invited to join in with the "Delta
Walkers' as we walk our neighborhood. The idea was
developed at a recent Stewardship meeting. lt will give
us time to be together in Fellowship as we walk our
neighborhood, surrounding it with prayer. The average
route will be around a mile, taking approximately thirty
minutes. Shorter routes and longer routes will be plotted
for those interested, Walkers will be provided with a list
of possible prayer focus topics as well as several
scripture verses. ln addition to a powerful, focused
prayer time, this will be a great opportunity for us to
designate a specific time to putting scripture to memory.
We will be walking every Tuesday from May 4h through
the end of August, starting at 7PM at the church. We
invite you to join us along with your friends and family
members. lf you cannot joint us, we encourage you to
pick up the prayer and scripture materials and incorporate
them into a walk on another day starting at Delta UMC or
in your own neighborhood as we surround our community

 lust a thought---
0n a recent ride to Old Forge I was blessed to see all
sorts of flowers growing everywhere. Mainly daffodils and
I wondered how they could be spread so far and in so
many different places and they really were beautiful and
made me feel hopeful. So often we don't see the hopeful
in life, instead we dwell on hopeless. We are not a What Sunday School program to you attend or teach?
hopeless people, we are a hopeful people. Our hope is in
the Lord. He gives us strength and hope in the midst of
all our trials, discouragement, sadness, the list goes on
and on. But God does not want us to see life as
hopeless, He wants us to see the HOPE. Prayer is so
effective in building us up and helping us to see a brighter
side of life. Not all our prayers will be answered the way
we think they should be answered, but if we are patient
and we truly quiet our spirits and learn to listen to what
the Lord is speaking to us, our attitude can change and
our lives can change. We can learn to be more patient
and loving and more content with where we are in life.
God will guide us to the places that He wants us and gets
us involved in areas that He wants us involved in. I think
we have reached a time in the life of Delta that we all
need to be prayer warriors for our church and its purpose
and mission. How can we serve God in ways that will
bring our community together and will show love and
concern for those around us? The more prayers go up,
the more blessings come down. Let's really get praying
and watch those showers of blessings flow down. How
can you bless someone today? ln blessing others we too
are blessed. Live life with an attitude of Thanksgiving.
It's really amazing how hopeless and be made hopeful
with God. Be Blessed.

Delta Youth Group News
lf you drive or walk down North Washington St. from City
Hall to Walnut Street, marvel on how clean the street side
looks. On April 24th, the DMC youth group participated in
the City of sponsored cleanup.
ln addition, it was announced that the youth group
profited $94 from the recent Applebee's fundraiser.
Thanks to all who participated in these events.
The Faces of Sunday School
Introducing Paul Phister
Where do you work and for how long? The Air Force
Research Lab at the Griffiss Tech Park. I've been there
for 15 years.
The adult class - Disciple 1.
Do you have -
a hobby? Yes coin collecting and
collecting collections. I collect Star Wars collectables.
Who are your family members? TJ, Jessica (Eric and
Gavin) and Amanda.
What is your favorite bible story or verse? Job - I have no
clue why he put up with as much as he did. There was a
guy who definitely had commitment and faith. That's what
got him through.
What would you like to do in the future or your dreams for
the future? Travel. When we (TJ and l) retire we're going
to do a lot more travelling and cruises. We'd like to take
a new cruise around the world. lt takes 109 daysl

years.

Free Delta Movie Nights
Two movie nights have been planned at Delta UMC.
May 22na is Family Movie Night starting at 5PM. ln
addition to the showing of a family oriented movie, the
Stewardship Committee will be providing a free meal
funded by the money collected from the donations of
bottles and cans so many members of the congregation
and friends in our community have graciously given to us.
On June 22na al TPM we will be showing "Jesus Christ
Superstar". Those who attend will be encouraged to
bring their own beverage and snack.
Our last movie night was a wonderful time of fellowship.

 Home lmprovement Projects
At God's House
The DMC trustees have identified several projects we
would like to see completed at Delta UMC this spring/
summer. Everyone is invoiced to participate. Perhaps
you have a group of family or friends who would like to
gather together and work on a specific project. Perhaps
you would be interested in taking on a project alone.
Perhaps you would be interested in joining a few otl'1ers
from the church to take on a project. When you decide
which one of the several listed below appeal to you,
contact George Laver and then jump in and get started.
lf there is a project that you would like to take on at the
church that is not listed below, please let George know as
well. Everyone is encouraged to join in now on making
home improvements to God's house.

Delto Diners
On April 11th, 31 members of the congregation took over
the Lake Delta lnn for the monthly Delta Diner event.
Everyone is invited to the next excursion in May as we
gather monthly to go out for dinner. lt is a great
opportunity to be with members of your church family as
we draw together around the table in fellowship for great
conversation and good food. Everyone is invited to bring
along friends and family to join in the fun. Please see

to volunteer to walk. See Laura Sharp or Sharon Parker

. The Corner Closet needs some substitute cashiers this
summer so the regular cashiers can go on vacation.

. The annual DMC Promotion Sunday and Picnic will be
held on May 23d. A dessert auction will also be held.
. DMC has new office hours. They are Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday from 10AM-2PM.

DMC. Thanks to all who participated.
. Next Men's breakfast scheduled for May Bh at 9AM.

. A prayer breakfast will be held at the Delta Bible Camp
