Introduction

Based on the English Language Curriculum for Primary Schools Bahasa Inggeris Year 3,
there many themes introduces to the students to enhance and develop the English
Language. It emphasizes on four basic skills which are reading, writing, speaking and
listening based on the integrated elements in Arts in Education study. All of the elements
included music, visual arts, audio and movement which required in the teaching and learning
process as one of the effort to learn a new knowledge in an informal way. Teachers
nowadays tend to use various teaching aids and resource kits to attract the students
attention in their learning process.

Preparing the Resource Kit

The themes introduced in the curriculum for primary schools Bahasa Inggeris Year 3
included People Around Us, Under the Sea, Fresh Fruits, Technology at Home and so
on. We combine some of the themes and make it into a new one which is Living Things and
Non-Living Things. The rational why we choose this theme is because we try to make the
pupils generate their previous knowledge based on what they had learn before. We
assumed to apply this theme as one of the revision process before the pupils sit for their final
examination. At the same time, they will improve their vocabularies of English words as well
as their thinking skill as they need to recall and remember the lessons before. They also
need to classify those words into their respective classes either living things or non-living
things.

Figure 2
The resource kit that we choose to create is as shown in the Figure 1 and Figure 2. It
is called a Spinner and Vocabulary Hanger. We choose to create this resource kit
as we intend to integrate the elements of visual arts, music and movement where the
first thing that the pupils need to do is spin the spinner while music is being played.
Here, we already combine the elements of music and movements. Pupils also need
to move around especially when they need to come to the front of the class as they
represent their respective groups. Once the music stop, they need to identify at which
part did the arrow point and they need to choose immediately a picture that related to
the key word show in the spinner. When they look the picture, indirectly they will use
the elements of visual arts since the pictures provided are colourful, different in
shapes and in different characteristics. This will enhance their imagination and visual
skills.

Learning Outcomes

As we plan on this theme, we underlined some of the learning outcomes that we

want to emphasize among the pupils. First of all, by the end of the lesson, we want
all the pupils to be able to differentiate between living things and non-living things. As
we know, in this world we have lot of things that are alive or not, so by doing this,
they will be able to know about that. In addition, they will be able to recognize
different things in their homes, schools or anything around them followed by their
categories. Besides, the pupils also can improve their spelling as they need to spell
the words chosen while playing this game in front of the class. Even though some of
them might face some difficulty in spelling but still their friends will help them. At the
end of the lesson, the pupils also required to list down all the new words and the
meaning that they got in their exercise books so they can refer it at the other times.
