Program Outline and Participation Requirements of the 7th Training Program for
Welding Engineers for Malaysia - Welding Engineer (WE) Level
Implemented In cooperation with the Institute of Materials, Malaysia [IMM], Malaysian Welding and Joining Society [MWJS]
and the Japan Welding Engineering Society [JWES]
Background
As globalization and economic integration of the entire East Asia region progresses, it is necessary to improve the
business environment related to trade and investment for the mutual benefit of all countries in the region. In
Malaysia, the Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM) and the Malaysian Welding Joining Society (MWJS)started
certification of welding personnel in cooperation with the Japan Welding Engineering Society (JWES) in 2011. This
February 27 engineers have been certified to comply with the requirements of the JIS Z3410 (ISO 14731) / WES
8103 Certifiction system of welding coordination personnel at the level of Welding Engineer (WE). This training
program targets people who have already passed the AWE examination / have equivalent knowledge and experience
to be acquainted with advanced level Welding Engineer (WE) certificate to be leaders / instructors to produce
competent welding engineers in the future.
Introduction to IMM:
Institute of Materials, Malaysia (IMM) is a non-profit professional society that promotes honorable practice,
professional ethics and encourages education in materials science, technology and engineering. Engineers,
academicians, technicians, skilled workers and professionals are amongst its members exceeding 4000.
Registered with the Registrar of Societies on 6th November 1987, the Malaysian Materials Science & Technology
Society (MMS) changed its name to the Institute of Materials, Malaysia (IMM) on 16th June 1997. The objectives
of the IMM include the training and development of individuals and companies in Malaysia to attain professional
recognition in various fields of materials science, technology and engineering.
Introduction to MWJS:
The Malaysian Welding and Joining Society (MWJS) is a nonprofit organization and exist under the law of
Malaysia. MWJS supports the Ministry of Human Resources and the Construction Industry Development Board
(CIDB) in championing, promoting and upgrading welding personnel and industry in Malaysia such as training,
certification, technology transfer and development of welding competency standards.

Participation requirements
The participants must:
- Be of Malaysian Nationality.
- Have passed the AWE examination, or have experience in attending a past AOTS/HIDA AWE course, or
be in charge of welding engineering / teaching welding engineering / inspecting welded products.
- Be in employment and NOT be students.
- Have a sufficient working knowledge of English.
- Be physically and mentally fit to undergo an intensive training program and are able to attend all the
sessions of the course over the 6-day period
Application Procedure
Applicants should apply for the course by submitting the following documents. These documents should be
forwarded to IMM & MWJS by Monday, 15th September 2014. Please attach the following documents with your
application form;
(1) Photo of the applicant (43 cm) with the name on the back
(2) A photocopy of your qualification certificates; degree / diploma / certificates
(3) CV with details of employment in welding related fields
IMM & MWJS will undertake the final selection of the candidates. The confirmation of acceptance of application
will be made known to the candidates prior to the commencement of the course.
Certificate
Attendance Certificate will be awarded to trainees who have completed the required training. The JWES certificates
will be awarded upon passing the examination.
