Site Preparation
When the steel installation starts, steel packages are distributed to the parts of the site in
accordance with the "general layout plan" and "Steel Layout Plan". The erection operation of a
steel structure starts with a request for a permit to work. Only after issuance of the related
permit will be the execution of the work start.
The view of the site is approximately as stated as follows:
Before beginning of erection at site, it would be helpful to see how the finished site will be after
the steel installation and specify which equipments will be mounted.

Large columns (P1) in this picture called as Pylon and the large structures between pylons are
called as Beams (K1). These structures are the support elements for transporting protection
conductor with the main conductor and making landing feeders.
Equipment support elements are used for transporting the switchgear devices like Disconnector,
Circuit Breaker, Surge Arrester, Current Transformer, Capacitive Voltage Transformer.
Steel erection starts with P1 pylon assembly on the ground. Bolts are not fully tightened at main
profile joints, while building on the ground. This provides flexibility of the elements while
combining pylon and beams at final stage.
9/24
Doc. No:
KP-00+++-MQ758E0001
Date:
02.03.2015
After fixing two pylons on anchor bolts, beam ( assembly on ground ) will be fixed between
pylons as per overhead lines directions. At this stage, axes and levels of system has to be
checked by measuring devices, such as nivo or total station. After fixing pylon and beams to
each other and taking to exact coordinates and levels, all bolts and anchor bolts have to be fully
fixed.
After the completion of the P1-K1 system erection, P6-K6 erection will start, with similar steps to
P1-K1 system.
And as last stage, all equipment supports (Circuit breaker, Disconnecting switches, Surge
Arresters, Current transformers etc.) steel structure assembly, have to be done at ground as per
steel structure layout and fixed over Anchor bolts.
At this stage, the technical documents required for the combination of steel parts are the steel
fabrication drawings. All erection has to be according to the fabrication drawings.
After completing steel structure assembly and erection of equipments at last stage, the empty
space between base plate and concrete foundation has to be filled by grouts.
9.2
Equipments
Steel manufacturing can begin after the completion of device assembly and conductor shooting.
Devices are mounted on bearings which will bring them together so that there will be insulators
between them. Devices can be shipped by size in one piece; at the same time they can be
referred 2-3 parts. The bolts connecting these parts are supplied by the manufacturer and may
be found in the package of device.
10/24
Doc. No:
KP-00+++-MQ758E0001
Date:
02.03.2015
But the bolts connecting devices to the steel bearing should be ordered additionally. Bolt
number, type and size of the device should be selected according to the project. Bolts should be
made of stainless steel. Bolt can be Inox, galvanized or coated with Dacromet.
Another important issue related to the bolts is each bolt must be spraying in torque value. It
must be controlled how much torque in Nm will be done from the catalog of the device
manufacturer. The combined raw material in torque value and the type of bolt is an important
criteria. The same sized bolts are tightened in different torque values while combining the
aluminum and steel material.
According to the past experiences the used torque values are compiled at following table and
we want to remind you to consider the advice of material catalog and manufacturer company.

All of the devices must be in site for the completion of the assembly.
9.2.2
Disconnecting Switch
It is used for the isolation of the de-energized part from the energy after circuit is opened. The
principles of the related device's assembly catalog must be followed for the assembly. Critical
points to be cared are:
The setting of the disconnecting contact is important.
Contacts should be set to touch each other at the same time otherwise arc damages
contacts.
This setting can be balanced with the bolts which are seated on support of
disconnecting switch.
The greases which mentioned on the assembly catalog must be applied for the contact
points.

Aluminum Conductor
There are types like 625 AAC, 800 AAC. 800 AAC is used for coupling feeder and 625 AAC is
used for OHL, cable and transformer feeders; it is pulled 1x or 2x according to the required
capacity.
152.8 mm 2 Dorking rope, as a protection conductor protects site against the lightning via pulling
between the top points of the site. Turnbuckle is applied the both ends of protection and current
transport conductors. Turnbuckle is used to tense conductors such as lugs for cables. It is
assembled to conductor by using turnbuckle pressing tool.
9.3.3

loosed.
9.3.4
Aluminum Terminals
High Voltage Aluminum terminals are the supported elements for the devices like Measure
Transformers, surge arresters, circuit breaker, disconnector, bearing insulator and for the
connections between the conductive line or the busbars. Basically there are five types;
1. The terminals in between line and equipment
Connects AAC conductors with HV device terminals. It has two ends. Choosing the end while
selecting the end which faces the device; it should be considered that device HV terminal is
strand or rod type and the selection must be done according to this. If it is rod, rod radius or if it
is strand, strand section and hole type/number is critical. Conductor section and number of
conductor is important for the end which faces the conductor.
15/24
