HP-MPI Installation for PAM-IMPLICIT Solver

The installation of Weld-Planner comes with PAM-IMPLICIT SMP and DMP Solver.

DMP 64-Bit IMPLICIT Solver can be run by simply installing HP-MPI on the workstation.
HP-MPI Version 1.1 is available on the root of the installation media in directory HP-MPI-Windows_1.1

Higher version of HP-MPI or now Platform-MPI are compatible, but not validated with PAM-IMPLICIT/VPS 2010.0.1

Configuring SolverManager on Windows

What is Solver Manager ?

Solver Manager, which is provided with SYSWELD solver when PAM-ASSEMBLY is selected, is a daemon that runs on a calculation host. Its
purpose is to process the calculation requests sent by GUIs running on the same machine or on remote machines.
Configuration modes

Solver Manager runs as a service : Shortcut "Install SolverManager as a service" is available after installation of Welding Simulation Suite 2010.0

This shortcut automatically creates a user account called by default pamservice (default password PaM$2010) which is granted with the right to run a
session as a service.
Then the following command line is launched by Setup, which permits Solver Manager to be run under pamservice account :
Command line executed by Setup :
<ProgramFiles>\ESI Group\Welding-Simulation\2010.0\SolverManager\solvermanager.exe -service -user pamservice
solvermanager then runs as a service and is ready to process requests from GUIs. The service is automatically launched at each boot time.

Solver Manager is launched by users in a command shell : No account is required, only a shortcut to the following command line is provided in the
Windows menu Start Menu / Programs / ESI Group / Welding Simulation Suite / 2010.0 / Manage Solver Manager :
Command line executed by Setup : <ProgramFiles>\ESI Group\Welding-Simulation\2010.0\SolverManager\solvermanager.exe -noservice

How to get your FLEXnet License File

Before the license server can be started, you must have a license file. System information must be retrieved before you can request your FLEXnet license files.
For each machine that will be running ESI Software Applications, execute c:\flexlm\lmtools.exe
Select System Settings

Send all the information the left part (Hostid Settings) to your local ESI support representative. They will send the license file to you.

Once you have received your license file, it must be moved to the appropriate directory (c:\flexlm) on each machine.
Then see Starting the FLEXnet License Server.

Starting the FLEXnet License Server

The following procedure is necessary for floating licenses only. If a node-lock license is provided, copy it to c:\flexlm\pam_lmd.lic .
Preliminary remarks : The FLEXnet license server installation must be done under administrator .

After ESI Software Applications have been installed, your license file must be moved to the appropriate directory, updated and the FLEXnet License Server
started. The pam_lmd.lic is sent separately from the installation. See How to get your FLEXnet License File.
To move and update the license file:

Move license.dat to the directory c:\flexlm

Using any usual text editor to edit pam_lmd.lic and change $PAMHOME to c:\flexlm\pam_lmd.exe on the line beginning with the DAEMON
keyword

To start the license server:

Execute c:\flexlm\lmtools.exe
Select Service/License file and select Configuration using Services (see below)

Select Configure Services, adjust parameters as below and click on Save Service

Select Start/Stop/Reread and click on Start Server (see below)

After completing these installation steps, you may run the ESI Group Applications.

How to connect to a Floating License Server through the network

The license file running on the license server can be copied on each computer running Welding Simulation Suite 2010.

If the license file is modified, the new one must be copied on each computer.
By default, client applications will search licenses in c:\flexlm\pam_lmd.lic .
Another license file can be specified by setting the environment variable PAM_LMD_LICENSE_FILE to the location of the file ( for example
d:\licenses\esi_licence.cry )

USE_SERVER file syntax in default license file c:\flexlm\pam_lmd.lic :

Client applications can read license file with reduced syntax :

SERVER servername 0 port

USE_SERVER
where servername and port are described in the SERVER line in the license file running on the license server : SERVER servername hostid
port
The license file is updated only on the server, the application inherits of the changes.

The environment variable PAM_LMD_LICENSE_FILE can be set to port@servername;port2@servername2;...

port and servername are described in the SERVER line in the license file : SERVER servername hostid port
The license file is updated only on the server, the application inherits of the changes thanks to the environment variable.

Uninstalling Welding Simulation Suite 2010.0 Applications

If you decide to uninstall Welding Simulation Suite 2010.0 Application, the FLEXnet License Server must be shut down and the service removed before the
Uninstall program is run.
To stop the License Server:

Select Start/Stop/Reread and click on Stop Server.

To remove the License Server service:

Select Configure Services and click on Remove service

After completing these steps, you can safely uninstall Welding Simulation Suite 2010.0 Applications by using the Uninstall icon.

Trouble Shooting
Having problems? You may find the answer here after.

ESI Group Applications will not run

If you can not run ESI Group Applications because of the error

"Cannot connect to license server ... WinSock error code"

Or

"Warning -15 = Cannot connect to license server..."

The FLEXnet License Server is not installed or is not running.

In the Control Panel, under Services check if the FLEXnet License Server is listed as a service. It should be listed as:
FLEXnet License Server

Started

If the FLEXnet License Server is not listed:

Open a command window

cd c:\flexlm
install c:\flexlm\lmgrd.exe
Check the Services list again
Select the FLEXnet License Server
Click the Start button
The license server should start and the listing be updated

If listed, but the status field is blank:

Select the FLEXnet License Server

Click the Start button
The license server should start and the listing be updated
