that were damaged due to the typhoon last 2013.

previous years. A lot of establishments have invested to this young town.

inviting than normal. The town itself has grown after being cleared off by the
typhoon. There are little to no trace of debris from the disaster.

a noticeable increase in traffic.

(@ ochos)

their experimental Asian dishes, and I hope you like it. We will be dining at a table
near you.

(After eating lunch)

Before we head back to the van, I will first orient you of the van policies, tour
policies, and town policies.
Van policies, it is okay to bring food/ snacks as long as it does not spill or dirt on the
mat, and seat covers of the vans. Never open van doors when travelling, keep the
ambience inside the van friendly, no hostile acts please. (In whispering voice) avoid
farting, the van is a closed area
Tour policies, avoid splitting off from the group. If you have to, then bring a buddy.
Bring any item that allows us to contact you. May it be an ID, or a cellphone. Avoid
talking to suspicious strangers, keep in mind that you are a tourist and vulnerable to
trickeries. The meeting point is and always be the Van, if you feel lost, retrace
where the parked van is, our travel buddy Daniel will be waiting there. If in any case
you are lost with no means of contacts, stay in the vicinity of the attraction.
For the Town policies, the usual city rules still apply here. There are no specific rules
in this town. Just keep in mind that you should always be kind to the people you
meet.
Now that you have listened to the orientation, are there any questions?
(If there are questions, entertain them)
If you are ready, lets start day 1 of our tour.
Tacloban is an emerging city which has been struck down by Typhoon Haiyan. After
2 years the city has restored itself and gained even more. A lot of companies
started investing in the city. Back in 1944 the city became the capital of the
Philippines. Typhoon Haiyan wasnt the only disaster that devastated the town,
there was a similar event back in 1897 which claimed plenty of life as well. The
recent event was the Papal visit which made the town gain some fame.
Here we have Kanhuraw hill, wherein the city hall stands. The name Kanhuraw hill is
closely tied to the history of the town itself. Tacloban was first known as
Kankabatok, as a name for its inhabitants (Kan Kabatok translated into English
becomes synonymous to Kabatoks property) which made their homes near
todays Sto. Nino Church, which is just over this area. After that 3 Gumoda, Haring,
and Huraw
Guess whose property is this. If you answered or thought Huraws then you are
correct. This is Huraws property which gives its name Kanhuraw. As for the name
change from Kankabatok to Tacloban, the place Kankabatok was once a favorite
place for fishermen, Kankabatok had an abundance of crabs, shrimps and fish. The
people used contraptions to which they called Taklub. Now the people outside the
town would ask the fishermen where they would go, the fishermen would answer
to tarakluban which meant the place where they use the contraptions. Eventually
the name Tarakluban replaced Kankabatok.

DRIVER: There we have a view of Tacloban Bay, on the other side of this is the
Daniel Z. Romualdez airport, which makes the city a transportation hub of the
region.

GUIDE: Next up we have the Leyte provincial capitol, the buildings architecture is
neoclassical which is common for American- era government. It played a significant
role for it became the seat of the Philippine commonwealth government back in
1944, the building has relics depicting the First Christian mass back in Limasawa
and the Historical Leyte Landing on Red Beach.

Here we have the Tacloban Astrodome, it is the perfect location for basketball
tournaments, concerts and big gatherings. The recent search for Ms. Tacloban was
held here. It houses many bars and business, (though it hasnt recovered yet.)

This is the Santo Nino Shrine and Heritage Museum, it was said that the first lady
Imelda Romualdez Marcos requested this to be built as the first family residence in
the city. The Sto. Nino shrine is the number 1 tourist spot in Tacloban. Upon entering
you can see the chapel which consumes most of the first floor area. Next we have
the guest rooms, each with their own team and is based on the different regions of
the Philippines. The place was once called as Marcoss Palace, with its Olympic-size
swimming pool, dining rooms, and ballroom.

Before the first day is done, let us have the full course dinner at Ayo restaurant.

(After dining)
What did you think of the trip so far? The main event of this trip is scheduled
tomorrow. Notice the increase of people for tomorrow. The town plaza is also getting
full with shops and bazaar. We can go there tomorrow.
(Guests are then escorted back to XYZ hotel)
(END OF DAY 1)

DAY 2
(Guide knocks on door)
Guide: Good Morning, I hope I didnt wake you. I have informed the restaurant staff
that we will be having our breakfast in an hour. Please get ready by then.

(After 1 hour the guide goes back and knocks on the door again.)
Please follow me. How was your sleep? Did you get any sleep at all? Our schedule
for today is pretty full, so it would be best if you have enough energy. Was there any
problem with the room? Please do tell, so I can inform the front office and have it
solved.
(They arrive at the restaurant)
About yesterdays tour, are there still questions? We went to 4 of the major tourist
spots in the City. So today were going to go to the flipside of the city, the outskirts
if you may.
(15 minutes after eating)
Okay, if we can lets immediately begin the tour, you can go back to your rooms to
get the necessary items and just go to the van when ready.
Driver: Hello everyone, how was your sleep? (Hands pillows to them) Here, if you
still need some more. The guests have to be fully rested after all.
Some of the roads in Tacloban are currently unavailable and heavy traffic is to be
expected since this is festival day. Ill try my best to stick to schedule.
(Macarthur Park)
This is the Leyte Landing Memorial, this is a landmark for Gen. Douglas MacArthur.
In Philippine history the arrival of Gen. MacArthur and his troops signaled the
beginning of the freedom of the Philippines from the Japanese hands.
Now as a back story, this was a rumor from the people back then. Why does Gen.
MacArthur look so serious in his statue? The statue was said to depict what their
positions and stature was when walking the beach. It all goes back to when they
were just arriving to the beach. They couldnt estimate as to how deep the water
was, and so they relied on a native who knows the deep spots and shallow spots of
the beach. The native pointed as to where the shallow part of the beach was. Being
the leader Gen. MacArthur jumped off the boat first, as it turns out the part where
the native wasnt shallow at all, it was deep, which infuriated the General. Feeling
embarrassed the native immediately fled the scene. The statue depicts the General
as he was walking ashore, looking for the native who tricked him.
(Drives off to Calvary hill)
This is the Tacloban Calvary hill, there are a lot of different versions of this scattered
in the outskirts of the city, but this one is the famous one. This shows the faith of
the Taclobanon to God. During the Last weeks of March (Lenten season) thousands
of Catholics celebrate the passion of Christ by walking through the 14 Stations of
the Cross.

The San Juanico Bridge connects the islands of Leyte and Samar. Since its
completion in December 1972, the bridge has greatly helped the economy not only
of both provinces connected but of the entire country. Even though the bridge is on
the very edge of Tacloban city limits, it is considered to be one of the city's most
prominent landmarks. It was also dubbed The Bridge of Love. As the late
Philippine President, Ferdinand Marcos dedicated it to his wife, Imelda who was
known as the Rose of Tacloban. It served as a birthday gift and testimonial of his
love for her.

(@ Sunzibar)
Okay well be having our Lunch. After this well leave you to experience Tacloban
Festival.
(After eating)
The rules and policies for your immersion.
Always move in groups. Have spare cash to purchase products. Some of the
products especially during festival day are unique and prices are fairly low. As for
the meeting place, once the clock strikes 4 you should start making your way to the
hotel. The town area is of fair distance just avoid going too far. The points of
interests are the Gaisano Capital and Central, RTR plaza, Balyuan Tower, Sto. Nino
Church, SM, each of those places are reachable by foot or by riding a tricycle.

(After they had meet up back at XYZ hotel)

GUIDE: So now we will be watching the Sangyaw Parade at Bos Caf. The parade
is done yearly, and features what the city is proud of. The government officials,
workforce, and special groups within the city are the ones usually attending the
parade.
(After parade)
We will be dining at Giuseppes Italian- Filipino Restaurant of course with the full
course dinner.

(Escort Guests back to the hotel)
