Getting Started with Shrimp

Getting Started in Shrimp Farming

AquaManna has several years of experience in the aquaculture industry and our main focus is selling equipment
that we have developed, tested and manufactured.

A list of recommended items is below.

AM Fusion Pump:

The AM Fusion Pump is the heart of the biofloc shrimp system. It provides enough mixing, stirring, aeration and
degassing for the entire tank of shrimp. Biofloc systems are essentially zero discharge, so we keep nearly all of
the water for reuse to help shrink the overall footprint of our projects, as well as keep the costs of purchasing
more salt at a minimum. It also includes an internal heat exchanger that can be hooked up to a boiler or hot water
heater to provide all of the heat you will need if you operate in a well-insulated building. This is the piece of
patented equipment that you will purchase from AquaManna to make your entire system operate.

Grow Out Tanks:

The grow out tank that you will need to purchase can range anywhere in size from 24 in diameter to 15 in diameter. We suggest the 24 diameter pool because you can gain greater production on the same investment, but
sometimes size constraints of existing buildings can limit the options for tank sizes.

Nursery Tanks:

You will need one of the recommended nursery tanks for every 2 grow out tanks if you go with 24 diameter tanks
and 1 for every 4 if you go with the smaller grow out tanks.

Floc Settling Tank:

As part of our biofloc process, you will need to de-floc your grow out tank to keep optimum floc levels. You will
need 1 of these for every grow out tank.

Regenerative Air Blower:

You will need an air supply for your nursery tanks, floc settling tanks and patented air curtain on the AM Fusion

Pump to keep debris off of the intake. We suggest 1.5 HP Blower for every 10 grow out tanks. If you have less
than 10 growout tanks, we still suggest the 1.5 HP because you cannot have too much air.

Water Heater or Boiler with Recirculation Pump:

You will need to maintain your water temperature at about 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This can be accomplished by
hooking up a boiler or water heater to the heat exchanger that comes standard with the AM Fusion Pump.

Water Quality Test Kit:

You will conduct water quality tests almost daily, so you will need a reliable saltwater test kit.

Oxygen/Salinity Meter:

Oxygen and salinity are 2 very important factors that will need to be tested and the meter makes this easy and
quick.

Imoff Cones:

You will need 1 Imoff Cone for every 2 grow out tanks. This is the tool that you will use to measure the amount of
floc in your tanks.

Nursery Air Stones:

When your shrimp arrive from the supplier, they will need to be placed in a nursery for approximately 30 days.
You will need air stones to keep the oxygen levels optimum.

Sea Salt:

You will need to run your grow out tanks at a salinity level of about 20 parts per thousand. It is recommended to
purchase either Instant Ocean or Crystal Marine. We can give you a price on this because we buy in such quantities, or you are free to find your own local supplier if you prefer.

Post Larvae Shrimp:

When you order your baby shrimp, they will be delivered to you by UPS or FedEx in insulated boxes. They will
be the size of an eyelash when you receive them. We suggest purchasing these from Shrimp Improvement Systems in Key West, Florida.

Consulting:

AquaManna does not provide direct consulting on the daily shrimp operation, so we suggest the training provided
by one of our customers, Doug Barbour. Doug is the owner and operator of his own facility. He provides 2 different kinds of consulting:

Option 1: If you want to get an overview of what it will take to be a shrimp farmer before you get started, we suggest his half day pre purchase tour. It is $500 and he will give you all the information you will need to put your
plan together and you can get a feel for how the equipment will be used.

Option 2: If you decide that you want to raise shrimp, then we suggest the 2 day extensive training provided by
Doug. This is 2 days on Dougs farm working one on one with him doing everything needed to raise shrimp. It is
highly recommended that you come prepared to take notes because this will be time well spent and will save you
a significant amount of time on the learning curve. He charges $1,500 for this consulting. Doug can be contacted
at bdjsfarms@yahoo.com or by phone at 765-412-7305.
