The Marcum Family/Ministry News

May 2016

Dear Friends & Family,

This month we are writing our newsletter from a beautiful apartment in Overland Park where
we have been house-sitting for the past 8 days. We have enjoyed the special amenities and the
park-like atmosphere with walking trails where weve taken frequent walks (often with Winston
the German Shepherd we have also been dog-sitting). It has been a nice break before we go to
missions training next week in Michigan! In our newsletter this month, we want to share a little
about the heart that we have for the people of Israel, as the Lord has been highlighting this here
at the Missions Base. Well also tell about IHOPUs recent graduation, and give a brief report
from one of our Life Team members who just returned from a six-week trip across the U.S. praying
and standing for LIFE. We pray the Lord encourages your hearts!
-Love, The Marcums

We have never shared in detail in our newsletter about the assignment

and burden we have at IHOPKC to pray for and stand with Israel. It is
very important to us! Each Tuesday in the Global Prayer Room we
devote the day to praying for Israel. Every intercession set (2-hr cycle
of worship/prayer) on Tuesdays revolves around leading the room in
prayer for the salvation and blessing of Israel. IHOPKCs Israel
Mandate ministry department has as its mission: Teaching and
mobilizing intercessors in the Body of Christ worldwide to pray for
Gods purposes in Israel, and partnering with Messianic Jews for the
salvation of the Jewish people. We take seriously Isaiahs call: On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen;
all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the LORD in remembrance, take no rest, and
give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth. (Isa.62:6-7)
This weekend (as were writing this newsletter) IHOPKC is hosting our annual Israel Intensive a weekend of
Biblical teaching and equipping on how we as believers can stand with Israel and be aligned with Gods purposes.
We are very blessed to have two guest speakers come from Israel who are elder leaders in the Messianic Jewish
movement Asher Intrater and Dan Juster. Asher Intrater is the founder of Revive Israel Ministries, and he oversees
Messianic congregations in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, as well as serves on the board of the Messianic Alliance of
Israel. Dr. Dan Juster is the founder of Tikkun International, a network of congregations and ministries that is based
in Israel. He is also the founding president and general secretary of the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations.
They came to us with the wonderful report that there are now over 100 Messianic congregations thriving in the land
of Israel! Most of these have sprung up within the past 20 years. The Lord is moving in a mighty way in the land of
Israel, but we must pray for them as there are many enemies surrounding them in this hour. Most of the hatred of
Israel is rooted in Muslim extremism. Never have there been so many groups mounting up with intentions to destroy
Israel groups such as Taliban, Boko Haram, Al Shabaab, Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood, and
now Islamic State (ISIS). Asher Intrater reminded us that these militant extremists will target for persecution and
destruction Jews and Christians alike in their hatred of the people of the Book. He also reminded us that since the
United Nations was formed in 1945, it has passed more resolutions condemning Israel than any other type of
resolution. Most recently, the U.N. General Assemblys 2015 session adopted 20 resolutions singling out Israel for
criticism, but only 3 resolutions that criticized the rest of the world combined. The nations are gathering together
against Israel (Zech. 14:2).
We believe it is a critical hour to open our hearts to the Lord and to stand with Israel. This will be increasingly
unpopular, so it will take courage! There are anti-Israel sentiments rising even in the church today (in some streams
they have been there all along). Lets humble ourselves, search our own hearts, and ask God to align us with His
heart and purposes. For more resources, both Asher Intrater and Dan Juster have written good materials which are
available on their websites or on Amazon (or on our Forerunner bookstore site). Additionally, we would recommend
the book, Your People Shall be My People, by Don Finto.

As we said in our greeting, the Lord has been highlighting Israel to us

recently. One of the ways He has done this is that this year for the first time,
Kansas City was a member city in the annual March of Remembrance
which memorializes the over six-million Jews who died in the Holocaust.
Melissa and I joined hundreds who took part in the March on Sunday, May
1st. The event was held at the Overland Park Convention Center, and began
with a historical presentation using power point and pictures, telling the story
of the Nazi holocaust. It was very moving. Then a young German Christian
woman spoke through tears about her experience growing up in the aftermath
of the holocaust, and the desire of the German people, especially German Christian community, for true cleansing and
repentance. (She and her husband are on staff at IHOPKC, though weve not met them). Her speech was so humble and
you could sense something very special taking place. The final speaker was an Arab woman, a former Muslim, who
shared of how she came to Jesus Christ and has been changed in her heart toward the Jewish people. She now leads a
ministry in Middle East countries bringing many out of Muslim extremism and into the love of Christ.
During the March there were several prayer stations along the route. We
used a prayer guide that had been handed out, and we prayed for the topic at
each station. Interestingly, one of the organizers of this event was Rabbi
Shmuel, pastor of the Or HaOlam Messianic congregation in Overland Park. I
(Jim) met Rabbi Shmuel at his home last October. One of my prayer partners
and I had arranged to meet with him regarding some pro-life isues, and I ended
up the following Sunday (Oct. 4), attending the national Life Chain sidewalk
prayer vigil along with the Or HaOlam congregation. It seems the Lord has
been moving us for months to awaken to His heart for the Jewish people.

TRAINING & SENDING - IHOPU GRADUATION

This year we graduated 142 students from IHOPU! We were
priveleged to be small group leaders for 7 students from the
Forerunner Music Academy, training worshipers and musicians for
a life of service for the Lord. Three of
the students from our small group
graduated with four-year diplomas
(Michael -a guitarist, Jono -a drummer,
Rhoda a singer & keyboardist). This
year was also the first year IHOPU graduated 35 Chinese students who were trained in classes
taught here at IHOPU in their own language (Mandarin)! We are also excited that 4-year
diploma students can now transfer to Asbury college in Kentucky and are accepted into their
Masters program. Were proud of Joys fianc, Joshua, who graduated this year & will be
So proud of Rhoda!
continuing his studies at Asbury.

LIFE TEAM sends one of our own!

Our friend and fellow IHOPKC Life-Team member, Betty Wood,

just returned from a 3,000 mile prayer journey, taking part in many prayer vigils at abortion clinics across the U.S. for the
past 6 weeks. Before Betty left, we gathered as a team and had a commissioning & prayer time for her. As she made the
journey, we continued to support her as part of her intercessory prayer team and she updated us with emails along the way.
Bettys first stop was St. Louis at the Planned Parenthood (the last remaining surgical abortion center in Missouri), and
from there she traveled east through ten states all the way to Boston. She spent time in several major cities of the U.S.,
some (including New York City and Washington D.C.) where abortion rates are very high. We will have the privilege of
traveling with Betty to Grand Rapids, MI this coming week she is going with us to missions training at Life International!
We are looking forward to hearing more about her Journey for Life, as she was able to be at ground zero of some of the
most strategic places in our nation where the pro-life battle is being waged. Well share more in next months newsletter.

FINAL WORD: We love being part of this Missions Base! There is a steady flow as we train & send hundreds
through our internships & Bible college. Our hearts feel stretched to let go of those weve sown into who are sent
out, but its part of the flow and were grateful for the time weve had with each one. Please pray for us as we are at
missions training May 18-23 in Michigan. Thank you! The Lord be with you all & keep in touch were praying for you!

Because He is worthy of it all,

Jim & Melissa
