MAIN WEATHER OBSERVATIONS


(Recorded during past 24 hours)
Heat wave conditions are prevailing over parts of west Rajasthan, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Marathawada,
Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Bihar and at isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh,
Gangetic West Bengal and north interior Karnataka.

The highest maximum temperature of 46.9°C has been recorded at Chandrapur (Maharashtra) and
Bramhapuri (Maharashtra).
Synoptic features (based on 0530 hrs IST)
The trough from east Bihar to southeast Arabian Sea across Jharkhand, Orissa, south Chhattisgarh,
Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and north Kerala with embedded upper air cyclonic circulation over
northeast Jharkhand and neighbourhood at 900m a.m.s.l. persists.

The western disturbance over east Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood has moved away
eastwards.

Another western disturbance over north Pakistan and neighbourhood now lies over north Pakistan
and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir as an upper air system.
Numerical weather prediction (NWP) Guidance
The western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region during next 2-3 days.
A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan from 13th onwards.
Satellite Observations:
KALPANA–1 Cloud imagery at 0530 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of Jammu &
Kashmir, northeastern states, south Arabian Sea, south Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.
Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of remaining areas of the country except West Bengal,
Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Major features of weather forecast (upto 0530 hours IST of 16th May, 2010)
Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh
and scattered over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Jammu & Kashmir during next 24 hours and
scattered thereafter, scattered over Himachal Pradesh during next 48 hours and isolated over
Uttrakhand during next 24 hours and scattered thereafter.

Isolated duststorm/thunderstorms may occur over Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan during next 24
hours.

Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during next 48
hours and isolated thereafter.

Isolated rain/thundershowers may occur over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand,

Chhattisgarh and Orissa during next 48 hours.

Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Kerala, coastal and south interior Karnataka,
Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and isolated over Andhra Pradesh, North Interior
Karnataka and Tamilnadu.

Increase in maximum temperatures by 1-2°C is likely over east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during next 2-
3 days. No significant change is likely over rest parts of the country.
Warning
Thundersqualls would occur at some places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand,
Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, northeastern States, Orissa, Karnataka and Kerala during
next 48 hours.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rain/thundershowers would occur over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and
Meghalaya during next 48 hours.

Fairly widespread rainfall activity would occur over northeastern States.
Scattered rain/thundershowers activity would occur over western Himalayan region.
