Contraband
Drug trafficking- is a global illicit trade involving the cultivation, manufacture,
distribution and sale of substances which are subject to drug prohibition laws (Dictionary.com).
The constant battle between DEAs and boarder officials in containing and irradiating the drug
trade between boarder lines still continues and seem to have a possible end. Many of the drugs
being dispersed across the globe come from many third world countries due to the vitality to
their economical standing. The major drugs being traded among state boarders begins with;
Cocaine, Marijuana, K2 OR Spice, Lean, MDMA, Heroin, Alcohol, Methamphetamine, Steroids
and Bath Salt. The underground drug trade impacts our global economy in an eye concerning
boarder line threat and granting ultimate power to major drug lords thus allowing the trafficking
of illegal contraband.
The underground world of drug trafficking takes a toll on our global economy
tremendously. The trafficking of drugs is estimated in billions in revenue and thousands of
pounds being transported across boarder lines and consumed on a yearly basis. A major
organization that helps in the fights against drug trafficking and irradiates any further contact
with major drug lords, Organization of American States help in the fight against drugs. OAS
states, In terms of the size of overall drug markets, the most recent UN estimates place total
retail sales of illicit drugs at some $320 billion or 0.9 percent of GDP. This drug epidemic takes
a toll in our economy due to the massive amounts of unmarked and untaxable deals accruing

overseas. Many of this drugs getting transported throughout the global come from close by
countries as stated by United Nation of Drug and Crime. In an online article by UNODC states,
The Balkan and northern routes are the main heroin trafficking corridors linking
Afghanistan to the huge markets of the Russian Federation and Western Europe. The Balkan
route traverses the Islamic Republic of Iran (often via Pakistan), Turkey, Greece, and Bulgaria
across South- East Europe to the Western European market, with an annual market value of some
$20 billion(UNODC).

The major drug trade for cocaine is transported via European territory and dispersed throughout
the continent. Although many of the drugs manual factors come from European and South
American territory, many of the worlds heroin contraband comes from Asian countries. Untied
Nation of Drug and Crime gives a detail description of the trafficking accruing, In 2008, global
heroin seizures reached a record level of 73.7 metric tons. Most of the heroin was seized in the
[near] and middle East and South- West Asia (39 per cent of the global total), South- East

European (24 per cent) and Western and Central Europe (10 per cent). The amount that Asian
countries transport heroin to other countries is massive. Rounding in the metric tons and
transported throughout seas many of our heroin connections come from Asia and major
transportation of cocaine come from European territory.

Transportation of drugs is better understood when gone into detail like shown in the picture of
the near by countries and the flow of drug transportation from country to country. It begins in
Asia and spreads through out the global allowing the contraband to travel overseas and allowing
massive amounts to be secretly transported. Making it harder for the United Nation of Drugs and
Crime to caught these delinquents thus continuing the spread of contraband throughout our
globe.
A national threat with no means to end, drug trafficking has slightly increased. Although
this may be true, national officials are slowly catching up with several methods such as guarding

the boarders and shielding ports in order to close of contraband flow. As explained in the Policy
of, Office of National Drug Control Policy, Controlling borders and ports of entry is
vital in order to ensure the rule of law and prevent the flow of contraband -including illegal drugs
