Fig. 2 RINGFEDER Locking Assembly RfN 7013.1

Characteristics
The Locking Assemblies of this type present as the known
Locking Assemblies of the RfN 7012 series all positive features of a frictional shaft-hub connection. It is recommended to
use them in every application that makes higher demands regarding the true running of the clamped pieces.

The Locking Assembly according to fig. 1 allows an axial displacement of the hub which is not possible in the version according to fig. 2, as the flange exceeds the nominal diameter D
of this type. The subsequent losses of clamping force are compensated by the increased number of screws.

Two versions are offered according to the clamping system.

(Refer to fig. 1 and 2)

The outstanding characteristics of both versions are:

EXCELLENT CENTERING ABILITY

Due to the cones and the chosen design the Locking Assemblies
RINGFEDER RfN 7013 center according to their manufacturing
accuracy.

EASY MOUNTING

Only a few commercially available screws must be tightened.

Fitting work is not required.

EASY REMOVAL

The Locking Assemblies RfN 7013 have releasing threads corresponding to the locking screws. Additional measures or auxiliary devices are not required.

HIGH FATIGUE STRENGTH UNDER

ALTERNATING TORSIONAL STRESSES

Neither shaft nor hub feature grooves. Thus notch effect is minimized according to the system and a high polar section modulus is at the disposal of the designer.

OVERLOAD PROTECTION EFFECT

When the admissible load is exceeded, the Locking Assemblies

will slip. In this way, they safeguard valuable machine components against damage. However, the Locking Assemblies are
subject to the same laws as all other frictional locking connections, and are not suitable for use as slipping clutches.

EASY ADJUSTABILITY

Hubs can be located at any point on the shaft and are adjustable to precise angles.

PERFECT TRUE RUNNING

Forming a frictional locking connection, Locking Assemblies

RfN 7013 have absolutely no play.

EASY CALCULATIONS

This catalogue lists all interesting data in the form of quick-reference tables.

Mounting of Locking Assembly:

Explanations

The values for T, Fax, p and p apply to Locking Assemblies installed in oiled condition.
For further details see page 6.

d x D, D1, Ltot, L, L1, L2 = Basic dimensions,

Locking Assemblies not tightened
dG = Clamping/releasing thread

Surface finishes:

Fax = Transmissible axial force

For shafts and hub bores

Ra = 1,6 m.

Tolerances:

= Transmissible torque

= Maximum surface pressure between

Locking Assembly and shaft

We recommend the following mounting tolerances

p = Maximum surface pressure between

shaft: h8 / hub: H8

Locking Assembly and hub

Location of several Locking Assemblies RfN 7013:

TA = Maximum tightening torque for the screws considered

in order to determine the values T, Fax, p and p.

If several Locking Assemblies are used to increase the transmission values the clamping systematization (compare figures
3 and 4).
Change of screw tightening torques:
A change of the TA-values given in the above table is inadmissible.

Shaft calculation (minimum requirements)

Explanations

a) The material of a solid shaft is to be determined according

to: Rp0,2w . p

The values apply to:

b) The admissible maximum bore diameter of a hollow shaft

results from the following relation:

Where Rp0,2N = yield point of the used hub material and

Installation and removal instructions
Mounting

Removing

Since the force is transmitted by contact pressure and friction

between functional surfaces, condition of contact surfaces and
proper tightening of the locking screws are of great importance
(see point 1).

The Locking Assemblies RfN 7013 are to be removed in the

following sequence:

1. All contact surfaces, including screw threads and screw

head bearing surfaces, must be clean and slightly oiled. ( Do
not use Molybdenum Disulphide!) In this condition, the
shaft, hub and Locking Assemblies are to be assembled.

2. Remove the screws adjacent to each threaded bore and screw them into these bores pressing off the outer ring. The
connection is then released.

1. Loosen all screws by a few turns.

2. Tighten locking screws lightly and align hub.

3. The connection can be either re-adjusted or dis-assembled.

Remove the jack screws only after the Locking Assembly
has been taken out of the hub.

3. Tighten screws evenly in diametrically opposite sequence

and do this in two or three stages up to the indicated tightening torque (TA ).

Dismount and clean dirty undamaged Locking Assemblies before re-use.

4. Re-check tightening torque by applying it to all screws all

the way around. When no screw will turn any more, the assembly is completed.

Torque Wrenches and accessories

Torque Wrench Handles

For controlled tightening of locking screws of Locking Assemblies RINGFEDER we offer suitable torque wrenches and
attachments. These tools facilitate the installation of our
Locking Assemblies particularly on straight through shafts.
They can be used, of course, also for mounting other Locking
Assemblies RINGFEDER, Locking Elements, Shrink Discs and
other screwed or bolted connections.
The rigid square drives SSD and hex bit sockets exhibit compact
over-all dimensions and can be combined with commercially
available extensions. The SD-drives fit with all MCCM torque
handles. Square drives and hex bit socket drives required for
any given Locking Assembly size are listed in following table.

Description and operation
When preset torque is reached, you hear a click and feel the breakover. No disadvantages are caused by dials and indicators.
Torque setting is achieved by turning the adjustable micrometer torque handle. Every setting point is felt by a distinct stop.
Torque setting cannot accidentally change while wrench is in
use. By turning the lock screw located at the end of handle counter-clockwise (Lock), the adjustable handle is locked. By turning it clockwise (Unlock), the handle is unlocked.

Frictionless adjustment mechanism permits high torque accuracy even after prolonged use.
Slim design and light weight for better accessibility to fasteners
and minimum operator fatigue.
Required attachments slide on easy onto the dovetailed and pin
locked torque handle. For release of attachments, the spring loaded lock pin can be easily depressed by a pin or screw driver.
