1. What pronoun which points a noun?
2. What pronoun which is used in a question?
3. What pronoun which refers to an indefinite, or general person or thing?
C. Vocabulary
1. Author (-thr)

2. Purpose (pr-pz)
- the reason why something is done
3. Persuade (pr-swd)

- to cause to do something

D. Motivation (Picture Analysis)


Showing pictures that informs, persuades and entertains.
Guide questions:
1. What can you say about the pictures?
2. How can you differentiate the pictures from the others?
3. What are the purposes of the pictures?
4. What do you think is our lesson for today?
E. Presentation
Today, we will learn about the three purpose of the author or writers in writing
something.
F. Lesson Proper
F.1. Activity (Hand Signals)
Instructions:
1. The students will ask to stand for the activity.
2. Students must think about the sentence very well.
3.After the teacher will signal wherein they have to put their hands UPWARD if
the author INFORMS. FORWARD if the author ENTERTAINS and SIDEWARD, if
the author PERSUADES.
1. A story about a family trying to stick together and survive through the
Great Depression in the Midwest in the 1930s.
2. A section in a history book describing the conditions and causes of the
Great Depression in the Midwest in the 1930s.
3. An instructional booklet describing how to operate a smart phone.
4. An article where the author argues that an iPhone is better than an
Android phone.
5. A poem about the beauty of life.
F.2. Analysis
After the students have given their answers using the hand signals, let them
analyze the following questions:

informing/persuading/entertaining?
2.2. What are your basis in your answers?

3.1 Lecture-discussion will be conducted by the teacher on the following:
1. Definitions of the three purposes of the authors.
2. Giving of examples.

Instructions:
1. The will be grouped into three.
2. They must apply the purpose of the author by performing in different
activities.

Group 1 will make a short infomercial about any topic.


Group 2 will have a short role-play with any topic.
Group 3: will present a short advertisement of any product.

4. Students must follow the simple rubrics in their performance.

Entertain, Persuade. Answer directly.
1. The documentation and instructions for a new touch-screen tablet PC.
2. A speech written by Isiah Thomas urging young people to stay in school.
3. The story of a teacher who helps some of her troubled students get to college.
4. Directions in using Facebook, a social networking site.
5. An advertisement that convinces the people to use the whitening soap.
