Letter of Motivation - Mechatronics

I would like to introduce myself as a highly motivated and hardworking person with
a thriving aspiration to advance in the career endeavor. I strongly believe that high
quality education together with practical exposure is essential to attain a career
betterment. To achieve that, I spent significant time and invested substantial effort
to grasp the fundamentals. As a result, I could excel throughout my academics with
excellent grades which awarded me scholarships from my institution.

During my schooling, I had an opportunity to visit a Robotics Exhibition where I got

impressed the most when I witnessed a Pick & Place Robot. This event kindled me
to develop prototype of robots of miniature sizes and I enjoyed working with the
electro mechanical components. This turned out to be a milestone for me and I
had decided to opt for a versatile field of study, Mechanical Engineering.

The laboratory courses such as C & UNIX in my bachelor studies quenched my

thirst for programming. To enhance this knowledge further, I learnt to write
programming with AVR Studio for Line Follower, Wall Follower and Obstacle Avoider
Robots in a technical workshop. Along with trainings, courses like Mechatronics,
Robotics and Design of Machine Elements helped to transform / apply the
theoretical knowledge practically for my bachelor thesis Automatic Sanitary
Management System. The vital concepts of machine design and programming with
AVR Studio in 8051 microcontroller were incorporated successfully for the
completely automated system. Our thesis got full credits and appreciation from the
professors.

As I never wanted to stop my quest, I have undergone a industrial training in Steel

Authority of India (SAIL) to acquire more knowledge in the field of automation. The
process of raw material handling, monitoring the boiler levels, mixing of additives
in Blast furnace through Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) module
amazed/fascinated me (OR) provoked my interest about the promising field of
Automation & Control Systems. With further self interest, I had done a training
about Industrial Automation (ATIA) Tools for Ladder Logic Programming in
Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and

Distributive Control Systems (DCS). These hands on training with Hardware

systems gave me further insight about the role of Automation tools in Process
Industries.
Along with my studies and training, I acquired practical experience knowledge
when I worked for Schneider Electric India Private Limited as a NPP Buyer. My role
encompasses the procurement and installation of machines viz., Automatic
Screwing and Unscrewing Machines, electromechanical components such as
Programmable Logic Controllers, Variable Frequency Drives for Automatic Finishing
and Assembly Lines for Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB) and Residual Current
Circuit Breakers (RCCB).

As the next logical step towards enhancing my knowledge in Automation, I decided

to do Masters in Mechatronics that will offer me the right blends of technical
education, professional guidance and a research-oriented curriculum. Through my
professors, I came to know about that the German Universities have state of the
art research infrastructure with highly qualified professors and have a close
connection with the Industry leaders. Considering these facts in mind, I have
decided Germany as my academic destination.

Through www.daad.de, I found International Graduate Studies in Mechatronics

course offered by University of Siegen. I browsed through the Course curriculum
and found the courses like Automation and Industrial Communication,
Machine Dynamics & System Dynamics and Sensorics would fit into the
groove of my aspirations. The mandatory project work in the curriculum will help
me to bridge the gap between the theoretical knowledge and practical application.
My knowledge and inclination towards the field of Mechatronics & Automation will
surely motivate me to proactively participate and contribute to the program. The
interdisciplinary nature of this program will broaden my learning scope and greatly
improve the prospect of doing a doctorate. Along with high quality technical
education, I would also have a possibility to learn new cultures and languages. All
these factors motivated me to choose International Graduate Studies in
Mechatronics in University of Siegen.

I am sure that my motivation and hard work will help me face the challenges head
on and come out with flying colors. I am also aware of the dedication and hard
work required for the course. I believe that my qualifications and skills would meet
the requirements for admission of this course. I would like to thank you for your
valuable time and I will be looking forward to hearing from you.
