1. Report Designer 5.0u Editor Window

This chapter introduces the window description and pop-up menus of Report Designer 5.0u
Editor.

1.1. Document Window

At Report Designer Editor, new report window will be open at the work space window every
time when Load or New report is executed. The size and the position of report window can
be changed and the windows are independent each other, so the users can work in each
report window.

Chapter 1. Using Report Designer Editor

1.2. Project Window

Project Window consists of Project, Table Information, Manage Page, Dataset and
Document Repository Server.

1.2.1. Project Tab

This tab shows the tree-type report form files included in project files. Project Files have the
group information and the location information on report form files, and you can group and
manage report form files by the same topics or by their related data.
When right-clicking a mouse on Project tab, pop-up menu will appear as shown below.

1.2.1.1. Open Project

Open Project opens a project made before. See Chapter 2.4.1 Project for more details.

1.2.1.2. Open FTP Project

Open FTP Project opens project files saved in FTP server. See Chapter 2.5.1 Open FTP
Project for more details.

1.2.1.3. Save Project

This function saves the new project or the changed project as rpr type. See Chapter 2.4.2
Save Project-Save Project as New File Name or Chapter 2.5.2 Save Project into FTP
Server for more details.

82

1.2.1.4. Close Project

This function closes a project showing in Project tab.

1.2.1.5. New
This function creates a new project. See Chapter 2.1.3 Project Tab for more details.

1.2.1.6. Save As
This function saves the new project or the changed project as a new file name.

1.2.1.7. Create Executable File

This function has two types. One is a group node selected, the other is a file node selected
in a Project tab.
In case of selecting a File Node, the function is the same as File > Create Executable File.
See Chapter 2.13 Create Executable File for more details. In case of selecting a Group
Node, the function is used to make an executable file with all the files registered in the
current project.
In case of executing every executable file to be made of all files in a project, the executable
file name can be assigned as parameters. In case of the execution without parameters, you
can create the report with the first file from the project tree.
As for a file name as parameter, an absolute path including a file location in a project will be
sent. For example, in case a file rdsample.rpr is created as an executable file, input as
shown below to view a file products.mrd.
rdsample.exe $table$products.mrd
Use $ character as a delimiter either between group names or group name and file name.
And mrd file name included in the real project file has to be used for the file name. For
example, if bill.mrd is added to group table and file node name is changed to Receipt, then
input as shown below when executing the exe file.
rdsample.exe $table$bill.mrd

1.2.1.8. Create MRP Group File

This function compresses all report form files registered in project files into one mrp file
format.
The mrp file can be used in all modules of Report Designer Viewer. To use the mrp file, set
a path of mrd file to create a report together with the mrp file as a parameter. It is the same
as Create Executable File.
Rdviewer.exe rdsample.mrp$table$products.mrd

Chapter 1. Using Report Designer Editor

1.2.1.9. Add Group

This function adds Group in a project. After entering a group name to add on Add Group
dialog box, then click OK. The group will be added in Project tab.

1.2.1.10. Add File

This function adds Report Form File in a project. After selecting the file to add on Add File
dialog box, then click Open. The file will be added in Project tab.

You can select several files once by using <shift> or <ctrl > key in the Add File to
Project dialog box.

1.2.1.11. Rename Node

You can modify the name of selected group or file node by selecting Rename Node after
selecting either one of created groups or files on the project. Changing the name of file node
will not affect the actual file name.

1.2.1.12. Delete Node / Delete All Nodes

If you click Delete Node after selecting one of groups or files created below project, the
group or file will be deleted from project window.
Delete All Nodes deletes all created groups or files in Project tab.

1.2.1.13. Expand All Nodes

This function shows broadly projects, groups and files under projects with tree structures in
Project tab.

1.2.1.14. Set Server Path

In Report Designer Viewer, you can open a project file as a document list, and directly
execute .mrd file added in project.
However, when a project file in a server is opened in client, there is a case that the location
of mrd file to be opened is not well recognized because the path of mrd file saved within
project is a relative one to the project file.

84

1. Report Designer 5.0u Editor Window

This function, Set Server Path, is to set an absolute path of a project file on a server in order
to prevent this problem.

1.2.1.15. Whole Project Download

This function can download all the files in project into a users PC, only in case FTP project is
opened.

1.2.2. Table Information Tab

It shows a database Table information and field information connected to the report under
being worked on report window. A DB name or connected file is described in the root of
Table information window and Table information is under the root, in the tree structure of an
added Table and field.
When right-clicking a mouse on Table Information tab, a pop-up menu will appear as shown
below.

1.2.2.1. Field Type View

is closed, the last setup will be saved. When Report Designer Editor runs newly, the setup
will be applied.

the addition & deletion of a page, it can move to other pages through the dragging of pages,
only when sub pages are used.
When right-clicking a mouse on Manage Page tab, pop-up menu will appear as shown
below.

See Chapter 3.12 Edit Page for more details on Add Cover, Add/Insert Body, Add
Last Page, and Delete Page.

server

1.2.5.8. Inquire Document History

This function is available when a file node is selected. It inquires creation of the file and

server. It is useful to review the file modified before.

Rollback

It enables the file in document repository server to be restored to the previous version of the
selected history item. After Rollback, it can not be canceled. It should be selected carefully
because files created after the selected history item will be deleted completely on server.

1.2.5.9. Refresh File List

This function is available on Root node or on Group node. It updates the status information
of sub groups and files downloaded from document repository server, based on the selected
group.

1.2.5.10. Get Latest Version

90

1. Report Designer 5.0u Editor Window

When the file node is selected, the latest file is downloaded into the working directory.

1.2.5.11. Expand All Nodes

It enables all nodes with tree structures in Document Repository Server tab to be
expanded broadly.

1.3. Toolbar
The Report Designers Toolbars give a user very simple yet powerful features at the click of a
mouse button. These toolbars provide the easy word-processor like controls which can
quickly change or add any desired feature to a report form file under construction.
The versatile toolbars of Report Designer are at the core of its productivity-enhancement
features, not found in any other similar reporting tool.
With the use of these intelligently devised buttons, the designers job is made very simple
and most of the effort can be focused on actual realization of the design rather then grapple
with time-consuming ways to implement a certain theme.
There are many kinds of menus in a toolbar like

Standard,

Editor,

Table,

Database,

Alignment,

Draw,

Line Properties,

Pattern Properties,

Alignment Object,

Edit Page.
