Question 6.
From a tall building 20 metres above sea level two boats are observed on a lake. Boat A is observed at an
angle of depression of 30 and is due east, Boat B is observed at an angle of depression of 45 on a bearing
of 135T .

Question 7.
Two weights are hung from ropes, with a 12kg weight attached at B and a triangular weight of M kg attached
at C so that the weights are balanced and not moving. The tension in the ropes AB, BC and CD are
T1 , T2 and T3 kgwt respectively. The angles that the ropes AB and CD make with AD are R DAB 45
and R ADC 60 , with R ABC 90 and AD is horizontal.

Question 8.
Mr Bull instructs Adrian (with Linforth supervising) to begin an experiment by dropping a stone from a tall
building. At the same time as the stone is dropped, Adrian strikes an electronic switch to launch a small
rocket from below ground level with the top of the rocket at ground level. The rocket is launched with an
initial velocity of 4 g m / s , where g is the gravitational constant.
(a) Find the exact expression for the speed of each object in terms of time, t and the
gravitational constant g for the
(i) stone
(ii) rocket
(iii) The stone and the rocket pass by each other, travelling with the same speed but in
opposite directions. Find the time, t for this to happen after the start of the experiment.
(b) (i) Find the exact time that it takes for the stone to hit the ground.
(ii) Hence find the difference in time between the stone hitting the ground and the rocket rising and hitting
the ground.
