A gorgeous and hilarious picture book

about the most unusual breakfast
two children ever ate.
Two sisters sit down for breakfast, and one remembers a really gross
breakfast they once had, and reminds her sister about it. But her little sister
doesnt remember. So then she starts describing all of the really gross things
that were in the worst breakfast they ever had, until all they can picture is a
table piled sky-high with the weirdest, yuckiest, grossest, slimiest, slickest,
stinkiest breakfast two kids can ever have. And then they have a really good
breakfast.
China Miville has won the World Fantasy Award, the Hugo Award, and the Arthur C.

A magical, lyrical picture book

debut from acclaimed composer and
playwright Oren Lavie, illustrated by
beloved German artist Wolf Erlbruch.
One day, a bear awakes to find he has lost something very important:
himself! He sets out into the Fabulous Forest to find himself, using only a
few clues scrawled on a piece of paper: the bear hes looking for is a nice bear;
he is a happy bear; and hes very handsome too! These sound like pretty good
qualities to Bear, and so begins his memorable journey.
As whimsical as Winnie-t he-Pooh and as wryly comic as Klassens
bear who wants his hat back, The Bear Who Wasnt There joins a select
crew of unusual bears who have captured the imaginations of children for
generations.
Oren Lavie is a composer, musician, and playwright. The music video for Her Morning
Elegance was nominated for a Grammy and became a YouTube hit with over thirty
million views.

100,000 copies and was published in nineteen countries.

In Book Three of this acclaimed YA

series, Oryon Small transforms into Kim,
an Asian American girl who must learn
to separate body image from self-worth.
Changers should appeal to a broad demographic. Teenagers, after all, are
the worlds leading experts on trying on, and then promptly discarding, new
identities.New York Times Book Review
In Book Three of the groundbreaking Changers series, Oryon Small
awakens as Kim, an Asian American girl who looks nothing like she
expected or desired.
Where Changers Book One: Drew dealt primarily with issues of gender
and bias, and Changers Book Two: Oryon explored issues concerning race and
bigotry, Changers Book Three: Kim tackles the thorny, less straightforward
subjects of body shaming, self-esteem, grief, and how the expectations of
the outside world cant help but color the way we see ourselves.
T Cooper is the author of four novels, including the best-selling Lipshitz Six, or Two Angry

A childrens picture book that explores

cultural and gender difference through the
eyes of a five-year-old South Asian boy.
In this beautiful childrens picture book by Vivek Shraya, author of the
acclaimed God Loves Hair, a five-year-old South Asian boy becomes
fascinated with his mothers bindi, the red dot commonly worn by Hindu
women to indicate the point at which creation begins, and wishes to have
one of his own. Rather than chastise her son, she agrees to it, and teaches
him about its cultural significance, allowing the boy to discover the magic
of the bindi, which in turn gives him permission to be more fully himself.
Beautifully illustrated by Rajni Perera, The Boy & the Bindi is a joyful
celebration of gender and cultural difference.
Vivek Shraya is a writer, musician, performer, and filmmaker. His body of work includes

twelve albums, four short films, and four books which include God Loves Hair, She of the
Mountains, and even this page is white. He has read and performed at shows, festivals, and
post-secondary institutions internationally. He lives in Toronto.

Rajni Perera is a Sri Lankan-born artist whose internationally showcased work floats
between Western and immigrant culture. She lives in Toronto, Ontario.

The sequel to Vertical: a dramatic and

emotional skateboarding novel for
middle school readers.
True Vert picks up where Vertical left off, though True Vert also stands on its
own quite well. In this coming-of-age story, fifteen-year-old Josh Lowman
earns a spot as a pro skateboarder on the Alpha Dog Skate Kru team. With
the help of washed-up skate legend Dave McSteel, Josh pushes the limits of
whats humanly possible on a skateboard.
Every kid in America who skates dreams of being sponsored, and the
experience transforms Josh. Hes living the dream, hes cool, an Alpha Dog
skater; but he starts to lose focus on the things that truly matter. His goal is
to impress Erin, but hes so caught up in the pro skater thing that Erin and
the rest of his old friends dont want to be around him. And hes not sure if
his new friends are even friends at all.
Dirk Davies, the ambitious owner of Alpha Dog Skate Company, isnt
satisfied. Hungry for even more corporate sponsors, Dirk persuades Josh to
skate the most treacherous ramp of all, and now Josh has to decide what hes
willing to risk to maintain his spot on the Alpha Dog team.
True Vert offers a glimpse into the dog-eat-dog world of professional
skateboarding and takes the reader along for a wild ride as Josh discovers
that it takes as much courage to drop into the Mega Ramp as it does to stay
true to oneself.

An activity book for aspiring young

dog owners, helping them choose and
look after their dream pup!

A boldly designed and packaged

alphabet book, in which children are
invited to complete the illustrations.

What kid hasnt gazed yearningly at doe-eyed cocker spaniels and bouncy
little terriers, dreaming of the day their parents finally consent to get them
that longed-for puppy? Adopt-A-Dog is a book that indulges this fantasy to
the max. Delightful illustrations accompany descriptions of each breed,
and young readers are encouraged to engage with the responsibilities of dog
ownership by completing quizzes, drawing funny cross-breeds, doodling
doggy-hairstyles, and designing dog-beds.

A bright and beautiful interactive alphabet book that invites the reader to
complete each illustration by drawing, cutting, and pasting or coloring in
something to do with that letter. Draw the ants in As anthill, paste a family
picture in Fs family. . . . A perfect book for parents to complete with early
readers. Printed on heavy cardstock, with numerous die cuts, stickers, and
flaps, this is interactive learning in action.
Eleonora Marton has a bold gouache illustration style with a charming, vintage feel.

Holly Maguire is a fresh young illustration talent, whose warm, funny pen and ink

drawings will appeal to a broad range of aspiring young dog-owners.

An awesome book that will allow

young soccer enthusiasts to bring their
soccer fantasies to life.

A delightfully illustrated sticker activity

book that allows kids to write and
design their own hilarious newspapers.

A big, boisterous activity book for soccer-crazed kids all over the world.
Draw, color, and customize your way through the world of soccer. Design
your own uniforms, badges, and shoes for your fantasy team. Pick your
friends alongside the greatest players the game has ever seen to create your
perfect club. Complete league tables and predictions for the season to
come. Let your imagination run riot!

Make your own headline news! Fifty pages of tear-out newspaper layouts
correspond to thirty sticker pages of partially drawn images and
headlines. Kids are invited to color and complete the stickers, layering
them up so that volcanoes erupt, schools explode, teachers are sent to
prison, and moms win Oscars. Column space alongside gives plenty of
room for entertaining accompanying stories. Humorous and warm, this
book is a great way of getting kids excited about creative writing.

Joseph Gamble is an illustrator that lives and breathes the beautiful game of soccer. His

enthusiasm is conveyed in spontaneous line drawings that will appeal to both design-

Almost seventeen, Rani Patel appears to be a kick-ass Indian girl breaking
cultural norms as a hip-hop performer in full effect. But in truth, shes a
nerdy flat-chested nobody who lives with her Gujarati immigrant parents
on the remote Hawaiian island of Molokai, isolated from her high school
peers by the unsettling norms of Indian culture, where husband is God.
Her parents traditionally arranged marriage is a sham. Her dad turns to
her for all his needseven the intimate ones. When Rani catches him two-
timing with a woman barely older than herself, she feels like a widow and,
like widows in India are often made to do, she shaves off her hair. Her sexy
bald head and hard-d riving rhyming skills attract the attention of Mark, the
hot older customer who frequents her parents store and is closer in age to
her dad than to her. Mark makes the moves on her and Rani goes with it. He
leads Rani into 4eva Flowin, an underground hip hop crewa nd into other
things shes never done. Rani ignores the red flags. Her naive choices look
like they will undo her but ultimately give her the chance to discover her
strengths and restore the things she thought shed lost, including her mother.

Tims a dyslexic black kid on the mean

streets of Newark. How far can he run?
Where can he hide?

Ahgottahandleonit

What is innocence? Where does it go?

Tim is an undiagnosed dyslexic in an inner-city Newark high school. Hes
got good street cred, riffing strange rap-rhymes and running like the wind.
Hes packed into a three-flat with his mother, sister, and Uncle Gentrale. His
father, a drunk, recently walked out on the family, wanting some freedom,
saying, Ahgottahandleonit, son. He doesnt. Neither does Tim. Hes a
sophomore, already two years behind in school. Hell be a sophomore again
if he doesnt pass his proficiency exam. He wants to do what is right, but
anger boils deep inside him. The last day of school before summer, Tim slaps
Mr. Jones, the one teacher who has wanted to help. He doesnt know why.
It was just there, a rage born of some dark history. Uncle Gentrale tries to
explain, some crazy shit about living back down south. Marie reaches out to
him for love, but that doesnt work either. In a fight with some gangbangers,
the rage boils over and Tim slams Chucky in the head with a rock. Chucky
dies. Tim steals his phone. He carries it, like an albatross, throughout the
summerwanting to run, to hide, to speak the truth, to be free. Maybe Mr.
Jones will understand. Tim wants his life to matter.

Senior Year. Glory time! But nothings

easy: girls, family, the rehabbed
knee. And theres this white guy.
Sup with that?
Marion High, an inner-city school in Indianapolis, has never had a state
championship. Its D-Bows Senior Year, his A-Game is ready, big-t ime
colleges are taking notice, and hes dreaming big. The doctor says the
rehabbed knee is ready for ball. D-Bow celebrates with new kicks, the
LeBron XIIIs. Still, his life is not easy. First, theres the girl trouble. Lia is his
steady, but his ex, Jasmine, starts texting him late at night. At home, his mom
is acting crazy, because, well . . . shes pregnant! Still, the heart of Quicks is
basketball. Tough-assed Coach Bolden has retired. D-Bow is surprised that
he misses the old grump. Marion Highs new basketball coach is Murphy,
Boldens easy-going assistant. How can he mold these teenage players into a
championship team? But whats really rattling D-Bow is the cocky white guy,
Daryl Gibson. He wants D-Bows job at point. Fat chance, the others think,
but the white kid got some real quicks, and he can handle the rock. Its time
for D-Bow to man up. He needs to be the team leader, and he needs to bring
that A-game.
Kevin Waltman grew up Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of basketball coaching legend

Royce Waltman. Family life was basketball life. Quicks is the fourth in his D-Bow High
School Hoops series. It follows basketball phenom Derrick Bowden from Freshman Year

Joe Hayess mother knows how to

stretch the familys budget nearly as
well as Joe stretches the truth.
Kids today grow up knowing all about recycling. But when Joe Hayes was a
kid, recycling hadnt been invented. Money was so tight for Joes family that
they had to be inventive about using and reusing everything. They didnt call
it recycling, they called it making do. Joe says his family was dirt-poor. In
fact, he says, they lived in a wide-open stretch of played-out land where even
the dirt was broke, so impoverished that all anyone could manage to get out
of it was beans. Beans and more beans, thats all folks grew and thats all folks
ate. So imagine the familys delight when Joes father turned up one day with
a big, fat hambone! There was rejoicing all over the place, especially at the
dinner table that night. Joes mother was determined to make that bone last
as long as she possibly could. As thrifty as she was, she would have done just
that except the neighbors got wind of the bones arrival. Being neighborly,
she just had to share that bone. Thats when this tall tale gets even taller.
Joe Hayes is such a stylish raconteur that kids cant resist listening to him. Like that

recycled hambone, generations of kids have been passing that Hayes and his books around
and around, the kids now squeezing as much joy out of him as their mothers and fathers
did before them. Hayes lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but travels all over the Southwest
telling his stories.

A gorgeous, graphically compelling

retelling of Hans Christian Andersens
classic story of love and fate by
award-winning printmaker JooHee Yoon.
The Steadfast Tin Soldieris the first story Andersen wrote without a folktale
source or literary model, so it stands as a completely original work of the
imagination, which changed the fairytale genre for all time.
There were once five-and-twenty tin soldiers. They were all brothers,
born of the same old tin spoon. . . . All looked exactly alike except one. He
looked a little different as he had been cast last of all. The tin was short, so
he had only one leg. . . . But just you see, hell be the remarkable one.
So begins Andersens classic tale of good and evil; purity and personality;
fate and grace. In this boldly-illustrated contemporary retelling, Yoon takes
on the harshness and poignancy of the story, leaving readers with the sense
that nothing is ever lostit just changes shape and continues anew.
JooHee Yoon is an illustrator and printmaker committed to the art of bookmaking.

She enjoys combining illustration with design and using both traditional and industrial
printing techniques. Rather than a single approach, she tries to match the tone of each
project. She strives to create picture books that work on many levels and can be enjoyed
by people of all ages.

A cat obsessed by mice spends his

days indoors thinking about them with
fear, anticipation, and longing!

One day a blind child asks an

adult, what color is the wind?
A mysterious question, providing good
companionship and many answers.

It seems fair to say that there have never been as many mice in any book as
there are in this one! This may well be because the protagonist, a singular
and most ambitious cat, has promised himself that by the age of eighteen
he will have imagined ONE MILLION MICE! Every stripe of mouse is
imagined here, except for onet he most mysterious mouse!
Giovanna Zoboli is a writer and publisher. In 2004, together with Paolo Canton, she
founded Topipittori.
Lisa DAndrea lives and works in Padua. She spent her childhood in northern Italy and
has devoted herself to drawing and painting ever since.

A blind child questions all he encountersa dog, wolf, elephant, mountain,

bird, stream, and treeabout the color of the wind. Each responds
differently, with a shape, color, smell, texture, or idea. Each page displays
a visual and tactile palette of cutouts, textures, and colors. It is a sensory
experience that makes the invisible experiential, ending with the wind,
as the pages fly.
A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Anne Herbauts expresses an
original world in each of her books. Awake to the richness of the world, endlessly curious,
and rigorous in her work, Anne has written and illustrated over twenty books.

As anti-gun and pro-vegetarian as

you can get, The Happy Hunter is
a beautiful, heartfelt story about
communing with animals.

The first edition of this magnificent,

graphically original book from Franois
was first published in the United States
in 1958.

One fine day, Mr. Bobbin dons his hunting outfit and heads into the forest.
Fully equipped and ready, hes forgotten one thingt hat hes a hunter
who cannot hunt because of his great love of animals. Curiously, this is a
true story. When first published (1961), the real happy hunter had been
hunting for 25 years.

A book about a little boy with a huge imagination. The marvel and
enchantment of this story is its revelation of the mind as it belongs only to
the world of children. Existing without the prejudices of their parents and
the firm belief that the world must be a certain way, children live in a fluid
zone between reality and imagination, where everything is possible.

Roger Duvoisin was born in Switzerland and came to the US in 1925. He wrote and
illustrated forty books, and illustrated over 100 more by other authors. He received the
Caldecott Medal in 1947 for White Snow, Bright Snow and a Caldecott Honor in 1966 for
Hide and Seek Fog.

Andr Franois was a French graphic designer and illustrator, who lived in New York
City for a time and did many covers for The New Yorker. He also studied with Picasso and
created many cartoons and picture books. Little Boy Brown (1949) was his first picture
book to be published in the US.

A story about an unusual friendship

and the very different parts of
ourselves that make us who we are.

Here is the real question: after reading

this book, will you ever be able to look
at words in the same way again?

A surprising book that is also a little scary and more than a little deep,
Margarash is about a young boy and a seemingly-nasty monster who realize
they need each other.

The final book in Michal Escoffier and Kris Di Giacomos surprising,

zany, and clever wordplay trilogy (Take Away the A, Wheres the Baboon?),
here you will find ridiculously delightful art, an engaging narrative, and
wordplay that will keep even preschoolers deeply engaged. Because its truly
enticing when questions themselvesWill the PIGeon be chased?have
answers in them already (PIG)!

Mark Riddle is a Youth Services Librarian with a colossal beard. He was born in

Australia, has lived in Taiwan and Turkey, and now resides in North Carolina with his

He lives in New York City. This is his debut picture book.

Michal Escoffier discovered his passion for telling stories as a youth. He lives in Lyon

Kris Di Giacomo is an American who has lived in France since childhood. This is her

eighth book from Enchanted Lion. The others are My Dad Is Big & Strong, BUT . . . ,

With three balls of wool and lots of

ingenuity, a mother gets down to work
and sparks a small revolution.

Intelligently illustrated to reveal precisely

how a young pre-literate child might see
words before learning how to read them.

In search of a place where every child can go to school, a family moves from
Fascist Portugal to Communist Czechoslovakia. But different as their new
country is, it is far from as free as they had hoped for. In their new, gray
world, the lack of basic freedom is felt in the simplest things, such as the
colors they can choose to wear.

A child who has not yet learned how to read looks out at the world and sees
language as such a child would: as lines and squiggles that dont exactly
make pictures but dont seem to make anything else either. Then, when the
child starts to go to school and begins to learn his letters, his way of seeing
begins to change.

enjoyed by adults and children alike.
Carl Johanson is an illustrator living and working in Bretagne, France. He studied
graphic design and illustration at Konstfack in Stockholm, and has since focused mainly

October Fetterhof is a normal girl in

every wayother than being the future
Queen of the Fairies and Trolls.
October is an ordinary girl. From her plain looks to her average grades,
there seems to be nothing special about her. Then, three days before her
eighteenth birthday, she develops a strange itch that wont go away, and her
life is turned upside down. Suddenly, she can hear dogs talk, make crows fly,
and two new and very handsome boys at school are vying for her affections.
After she starts transplanting herself through solid rock, October learns
that she is not ordinary at all, but the daughter of a troll princess and a fairy
prince, and a pawn in a deadly war between the trolls and the fairies. Now
October will have to use all of her growing powers to save her family, and
stop a mysterious evil that threatens to destroy the fairy world.
In the fantastical vein of authors such as Julie Kagawa and Holly Black,
Extraordinary October takes us on a magical journey from the streets of Los
Angeles to the beautiful and mythical underground fairy kingdom.
Diana Wagman is the author of four novels and numerous short stories, essays and
reviews. Her second novel, Spontaneous, won the PEN West Award for Fiction, and her
2012 novel The Care and Feeding of Exotic Pets, was a Barnes and Noble Discover selection,
and was widely reviewed in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street
Journal, and numerous other publications. She lives in Los Angeles, California.

Farmer Falgu has had enough of his

noisy farm! He goes out looking for
silence, but does he find it?!
When the mooing, clucking, and quacking on his farm become too much
for him to handle, Farmer Falgu decides to set out on a journey to find some
silence. One by one, he is joined by a new crew of noisemakers culminating
in a cumulative cacophony. When he finally finds the silence that he has been
craving for, he realizes that it was not all that he had imagined it to be.
Farmer Falgu Goes on a Trip was shortlisted for the prestigious
Goodbooks-H indu Award 2016 and the rights of the book have been sold
to Japan, Germany, and France. The story is set in Rajasthan, a state in
northern India that is rich in historical significance and holds a special place
in the hearts of the Indian diaspora. This is just the first of many adventures
planned for Farmer Falgu.
Chitra Soundar s onomatopoeic language makes Farmer Falgu Goes on a Trip an
especially fun-fi lled read-a loud. Soundar was born in Chennai, India, and lived for
a time in Singapore before settling in London, United Kingdom.
Kanika Nair s gentle illustrations portray the rural setting and the wide-ranging
characters with understanding and humor. She resides in Franklin, Tennessee.

bad deeds into good ones, with a lovable and cheeky young boy.

Daisy breaks the stereotype of how

girls should look and act in this picture
book, which encourages readers to be
themselves.
Once upon a time, female elephants had a different skin color than the
male elephants. It was pinkcandy pink. In order to get that color, the
girl elephants had to eat only peonies and anemones, even though these
flowers were not recommended as food. Little Daisy did not like to eat these
flowers . . .
Candy Pink was originally created by Adela Turin forty years ago to
promote equality between boys and girls. This is the first time this book
is being published in the US. Essential!
Adela Turin is an art historian living in Paris. In 1974, she founded a childrens publishing

The Sykes family is faced with

revelations from without and within.
Whatever happens: nothing will ever be
the same again.
Praise for the Dissenters Series:
Millets prose is lyrically evocative (the rhythmic scoop and splash of their
paddles). A lush and intelligent opener for a topical eco-fantasy series.
K irkus Reviews (starred review)
A thoughtful and thought-provoking beginning to a new fantasy series.
The Cape Cod woods, wildlife, and beaches are depicted with loving detail,
and the dark forces arrayed against the young protagonists are at once
tantalizingly mystifying and alarmingly timely.Patricia McKillip
Readers will want to leave the lights on well after finishing this book as the
detail depicted will create similarities in your mind to Clive Barkers Abarat
books. Readers will likely want Cara on their team as they jump, like Alice
down the rabbit hole, through the guide book that turns into a window
through another world.VOYA
How well do you actually know your family? In the third and final
installment in the thrilling Dissenters series, Cara Sykes and her family
are hoping to enjoy a normal Cape Cod summer. But there are strong and
surprising forces lined up against them, there will be unexpected revelations,
and the highest price will have to be paid.

Clancy Underhill is smart, funny, and

gay. Shes on a collision course with
small-town life and its limitations.
A compelling coming-of-age story set in a dead-end Queensland town
thats imbued with warmth, empathy and real wit. . . . Clancy of the Undertow
blends the excruciation, confusion, and hope of being a teenager into a novel
that will pull in readers of any age.Guardian
Realistic contemporary teen fiction about the value of friendship, family, and
being yourself.
Clancy is a bit of an outsider, and the Underhills have stopped bothering
to really communicate with each other. But when her dad is involved in a
car accident that kills two local teens, the town turns against them. Clancys
family has to work out how to understand the events, deal with the anger of
the community, and tackle their own challenges.
Funny and wry, Clancy perfectly conveys the confusion of being a
teenager. An insightful novel about growing up and figuring out who you are,
this will appeal to fans of John Green.
Christopher Currie is a writer and bookseller, whose fiction has appeared in anthologies

and journals internationally. His first novel, The Ottoman Motel, was shortlisted for the
Commonwealth Book Prize and the Queensland Literary Awards in 2012. Clancy is his
first YA novel.

Young adult fantasy quest. Lowell and

Lycaea find an unexpected bond as they
struggle to protect those they love.
Life in the valley is a peaceful for the community of waerhumans who
can take the form of a wolf. When a near-dead stranger washes up on the
banks of the river she is cared for tenderly. But who is this young woman, and
who caused her terrible wounds? Lowell Sencha, a young waer on the verge
of manhood, seeks to find out more about the mysterious Lycaea, and her
pursuers.
The truth is revealed soon enough as the forces of the evil warlord
Daemon Leldh sweep into the valley. When Lowells village, and everything
he loves, is destroyed, he and Lycaea must travel to the city of her origins.
Their challenge is to gather forces to fight Daeman Leldh. But a terrible
secret about Lycaeas past will threaten the new bonds of their friendship.
Before Lowell and Lycaea can prevail in summoning the troops, Lycaea
must face the trauma of the events that brought her into the warlords power.
And Lowell must discover whether he has the strength to forgive her. If the
two young searchers are not able to reconcile the past, the future is in terrible
peril.
Told in the alternating voices of Lowell and Lycaea, Waer is a powerful
fantasy novel that holds the reader tight. Meg Caddy was just twenty-one
when she penned this debut.

From the author of Genesis and August comes a new psychological thriller
that questions what makes us who we are. Renes twin brother Theo lies
unconscious in hospital after a freak accident left him with massively
disrupted brain function. There is hope, though. An experimental
procedurer isky, scientifically exciting, and ethically questionable
could allow him to gain a new life. But what life, and at what cost? Only
Rene can give the required consent, and now he must face that difficult
decision. But first there is the question of Renes capacity to make that
decision. And this is where the real story begins.

Its time to take over the world with the

power of imaginative play!

How much fun would it be to take over the world? Armadillo is trying to
come up with a plan for global domination . . . but with every new idea, being
a bad guy seems a little less funespecially if ruling the world means losing
your best friend. Readers will delight in star cartoonist James Sturms tender
depiction of how far a true friendship can take you. Includes bonus comic
strips on every page.
James Sturm is the author of several books for kids, including the Adventures in
Cartooning series and the forthcoming Birdsong: A Story in Pictures. Sturm also founded
a college for cartoonists, the Center for Cartoon Studies, in the small railroad village of
White River Junction, Vermont.

Why wont Benny care? Penny finds a dead salamander, but her brother

lovable siblings? Geisel Award-winner Geoffrey Hayes displays his unique
knack for portraying childrens emotional needs.
Bestselling author Geoffrey Hayes has written and illustrated over forty childrens
books, including the extremely popular series of early readers Otto and Uncle Tooth, the

A larger-than-life strongman with

muscles as big as his heart comes
to life.
What made the Great Antonio so great? He weighed as much as a horse,
he once wrestled a bear, and he could devour twenty-five roasted chickens
in one sitting. In this whimsical book, beloved author and illustrator Elise
Gravel tells the true story of Antonio Barichievich, the larger-t han-l ife
Montreal strongman who had muscles as big as his heart.
In kindergarten Elise Gravel was popular because she could draw princesses with
long, spiral curls. Then in high school, girls asked her to draw their dream guys, and she
became very talented at drawing muscles and chest hair, which came in handy for this
book. One of Elises favorite authors is Roald Dahl. He got her interested in unusual
people and animalsa nyone who is strange, different, or funny.

Charlotte, a fourteen-year-old
snowboarder, reunites with her
father and triumphs over a harrowing
backcountry accident and a
contentious environmental lawsuit.
Get obsessed; stay obsessed. I remembered these words, and Ana Maria
Spagnas powerful father/daughter duo, long after I finished her captivating
novel. Young snowboarders, environmental activists, and teens who
champion the underdog will find themselves obsessed cover-to-cover
with The Luckiest Scar on Earth.Melissa Hart, author of Avenging the Owl

Ana Maria Spagna takes the reader into a heart-stopping, snowboarding

ride to vividly experience physical, emotional, and environmental scars.
Carmen Bernier-Grand, author of Csar: S, se puede! Yes, We Can!
Fourteen-year-old Charlotte moves from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado
to Washingtons Cascade Mountains, where she hopes to continue training
for the national snowboarding championships. After her father signs an
anti-development petition, she loses access to the local resort and takes to
the backcountry, where she meets nature on its own terms. When adventure
turns to tragedy, Charlotte learns that even our deepest scars can be
lucky ones.
Ana Maria Spagna lives and writes in Stehekin, Washington, a very small town in the

North Cascades accessible only by foot, ferry, or float plane. She directs the Whidbey
Writers Workshop MFA at the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts, and holds an MA in
English from Northern Arizona University. Spagna writes for magazines about nature,
work, and life in a small community, and is the author of several award-w inning nonfiction
books, including 100 Skills Youll Need for the End of the World (As We Know It), a humor-
infused guide for how to live more lightly on the planet.
