Bible Memory Work Program—2010
Psalm 119:11 “Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against
thee.”
Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
These two very short verses out of the book of Psalms are very important because it
reinforces to all of us that God requires that we all learn His Word and hide it in our
hearts so that as we journey down life’s path, His Word will truly be our guide.
This is what we are trying to accomplish at First Church through the Bible Memory
Work Program. We start with the youngest group of Twos and Threes and continue
through the Fifth grade. At the Twos and Threes level they are introduced slowly
through finger plays, songs and most importantly a Bible story that lets them know how
important God’s Book is to them. In Faith Journeys the Preschool/Kindergarten group
is required to learn in class;
Psalm 136:1 “O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good for His steadfast
love endures forever.”
Psalm 118:24 “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice
and be glad in it.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only son, that
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Starting with the First and Second grade, they are required to say the memory work on a
one to one basis to their teacher or Marcia Vlietstra. If they accomplish this, they will be
called up front on “Awards Sunday” for special recognition.
The First and Second graders in Faith Journeys will then build on the previous verses
learned in class, and will add;
The Lord’s Prayer The Twelve Apostles The 23rd Psalm
In Third grade they will add;
The Books of the Bible - Old and New Testaments
Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
In Fourth grade they will add;
Psalm 100 Matthew 22:37-39 The
Summary of the Law
In Fifth grade they will add;
The Seven Last Words The New Apostles Creed
If a child completes all of the required work, they will
be awarded a week at Camp Geneva or Cran Hill
Ranch, from the church.
