OBJECTIVES: by the end of the lesson, Ss will be able:
- to talk about the topic of the lesson; - to express their own opinions regarding to camping; - to use the language actively once they have completed the tasks. LESSON AIMS: 1. to introduce new vocabulary related to topic (travelling vocabulary) 2. to get the students interested in matters concerning travelling information; 3. to make students interact and share thoughts and feelings; 4 to raise expectations and create involvement in a listening task and listen to confirm expectations; SKILLS: reading, listening, writing, speaking, vocabulary skills. STRATEGY METHODS: conversation, dialogue, problematical situation, exercises, explanation, observation. TEACHING AIDS: textbook, blackboard, notebooks, laptop, audio material, worksheets, handouts, markers, A2 papers, scissors, Cambridge dictionary online, power point presentation with a spidergram about camping. ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: Students may have difficulties in expressing their own opinions STUDENT GROUPINGS: pair work, individual work, lockstep, group work
ACTIVITY 1 (WARMING UP)
AIM: to introduce the theme of the lesson PROCEDURE: Teacher makes informal conversation (greetings, absents, how are you? weather) and checks Ss homework (if they had one). As a warming activity teacher asks students some questions about holidays (Do you enjoy holidays? What types of holidays do you know?) Teacher shows examples of holidays. INTERACTION: T-Ss TIME: 10 ACTIVITY 2 (LEAD-IN) AIMS: -to raise expectations and create involvement in a listening task and listen to confirm expectations; - to get the students interested in matters concerning travelling information PROCEDURE 1: To introduce the new lesson, teacher gives students some sheets with the lyrics of a song and asks them to listen carefully to it and, in pairs, they have to fill the missing information to find out what will be the type of holiday that they will practice. They will listen twice. PROCEDURE 2: After that, teacher tells students that they are having a new lesson in which they will practice travelling vocabulary, writing the title on the board: Go camping. Teacher asks students to answer some questions related to camping. Have you ever gone camping? / Would you like it? Why/ Why not? / What facilities would you expect to find on a campsite? / What are advantages / disadvantages of camping?). Teacher puts the word CAMPING on the board and students are asked to think of as many words as possible related to the theme to form a spidergram. Interaction: T Ss, pair work, Ss-Ss TIME: 20 ACTIVITY 3 AIMS: - to introduce new vocabulary related to topic (travelling vocabulary) PROCEDURE: Teacher tells students that they are going to create a holidays tree. They have to match some pictures with three main types of holidays (skiing, cruise and camping). For each holiday they have pictures and they have to arrange them below each type (skiing: skis, gloves, warm clothes, ski boots and rucksack; cruise: sunglasses, swimsuit, life jacket, flip flops, sunhat; camping: barbeque, sleeping bag, torch, compass, tent). ACTIVITY 4 (ENDING THE LESSON):
AIM: -to evaluate Ss work - to assign Ss homework PROCEDURE: The teacher assures it at the end of the lesson and makes remarks regarding the students activity during the lesson.
