OUR RESPONDENT INTERVIEW

We conducted our interview on 7th may with Mr. FARRUKH SULTAN. He


working in two different designation one as head of resource dimension and other as HR
manager in the group of companies in his office. We asked him to give some basic
information about the company and five previous issues face by the resource dimension in
the area of human resource management. He also answered the solutions applied by the
company for these issues. We also questioned him about the issue currently the company
facing and the available alternatives the company can use to solve the problem.

Company introduction:

Resource dimension is basically a service company providing the support role in the area of
human resource services, networking, administration, finance and monitoring and support to a
group of companies. Resource dimension is providing HR solutions to the group of companies.
These companies are conducting different types of businesses. In the HR there are verities of
services providing by the resource dimension which include job advertisement (internally and
externally using different channels) recruitment and selection, training and development, policies
and procedures and performance appraisal. The company is having strength of 250 employees
operating in different departments. These employees are well trained and motivated by the
resource dimension to provide the best, unique and on time services to the client companies.
The company providing variety of services to the client companies in the field of HR which are
capital administration, strategic human resource management, enterprise administration,
enterprise network management and training and development.

HUMAN RESOURCE ISSUES IN RESOURCE DIMENSIONS

I.

interconnectivity

Initial issue faced by the company is of the interconnectivity. The reason is of


the resource dimension is a group of companies and there is only one service
provider to all the companies. With huge number of employees working
twenty four hours is a challenge for the company to interconnect them with
each other in the top down workflow.
Solution:
The human resource department came on the board all the
departments and discusses to resolve the issue being faced by the
organization. The HR department has interaction with each employee
operating in all the concerned companies to solve their problems. The
company has top down interconnectivity in the organization. Currently four
professionals are working on the interconnectivity issue to solve it. The
company facing the interconnectivity issue constantly and constantly
working on the issue to solve.

Structural

People who work together in organizations need a defined system or structure through which
they relate to each other and through which there can be a coordination of their efforts. The
defined relationships among the elements of an organization, namely people, tasks, structure, and
information and control processes - that characterize all organizations is referred to as
organizational structure. Mechanistic structures are appropriate for static environments and
organic structures for dynamic environments
The resource dimension providing services to five different companies, these companies has
different structures of their own made it difficult for the HR managers and teams to handle every
aspect of labor relations and structures within the organization which playing a pivotal role in
ensuring organizational continuity and long-term success.

Structures include compensation structure, employees payroll structure, induction and training
structures etc. The HR team is also dealing with grievances that employees and management
might have.

Solution:
The resource dimension now provides different human personnels in teams with
different tasks to manage the compensation, payroll and other structures of different companies..
Resource dimension provide different structures to the client companies according to their needs
and working environment to motivate coordinate and satisfy their employees to reward company
with higher productivity and a good market reputation.

POLICY AND PROCEDURES.


Policies and procedures are designed to influence and determine all major decisions and
actions, and all activities take place within the boundaries of the organization. policies are
principles, rules, and guidelines formulated by resource dimension for the concerned
companies and for itself to reach its long-term goals. These policies are published in a
booklet or other form that is widely accessible to the organization.
Procedures are the specific methods employed to express policies in action in day-to-day
operations of the organization. Together, policies and procedures ensure that a point of
view held by the governing body of an organization is translated into steps that result in
the achievement of the organization goals.

Solution:
Definitely the five companies have operating in different environments and
business activities. So, one policy cannot cater the operation of all the companies.

Therefore, the resource dimension writes the policies for each company and make
changes to the policies according to the needs and the situation arise. The resource
dimensions making effort to write and adjust the police to be acceptable to the companies
and to the resource dimensions.

IV.

DICIPLNARY CONDUCT AND PROCEDURES

A disciplinary procedure is a process for dealing with perceived employee misconduct. A


disciplinary rules and regulations are established and provided to employees by the resource
dimension to create a good working environment in the organization. Misconduct of employees
and use of drugs reduce the productivity of the employees by their selves and as well having a
negative externality on the others working at resource dimensions. There are well defined rules
and regulations of the disciplinary codes of conduct at resource dimension for all employees with
regard to justice irrespective of the person and his position in the organization. The disciplinary
procedures are very important for the resource dimension success because it provide a good
working environment to the employees.

Solution:
At resource dimension the discipline area is very large and difficult one because it
deals with the employees of five different companies. Each person mind is a unique filter
depending on their culture, education, experience, attitudes, behavior, personal likes and dislikes
etc. these variables make it challengeable for the resource dimensions to design and deliver
disciplinary code of conduct for each company employees which are acceptable and to provide
leadership and coordination to come on board all employees to follow these rules and
regulations. The smoking is not a good habit and restricted at job place in resource dimensions
but otherwise the smoking zones are available where the employees can smoke at break times.
Resource dimension have been in use a wide range of disciplinary procedures to eliminate the
misconduct of the employees.
These procedures are of the different types include

4. Disciplinary Hearings etc.

THE CURRENT ISSUE


OF
RIGHT SIZING:

Rightsizing means reducing employee numbers so that the workforce is the "right" size
for the amount of work that needs to be completed and restructuring with the goal of
reducing costs and improving efficiency and effectiveness.
The main objective of rightsizing is to gain control on the cost and to maximize the
profitability.
The resource dimension is a project based organization and taking new projects on daily
basis. For these projects the company hires different individuals to fulfill the projects
human resource needs. The human resource is in need in the company up to the time
when the projects are going on but when the projects are closed the surplus of human
resource arise. This is the big issue for the company to manage on daily bases this excess
amount of human resources.
All staff of the company taking the same benefits from the company whether working or
not. So it is very necessary for the company to right size to the extent fulfilling the needs
of the company.

Currently the company facing the right sizing issue because the company closed two to
three projects and having surplus staff.

SOLUTIONS BY THE COMPANY


The company takes different steps for right sizing sometimes the excess staff is
shifted to other projects if they can best fit in the required role or this excess staff is
transfer to other companies by the resource dimension. They try their best to retain the
staff but if the hired staff is not at work they cost the organization by taking salaries and
other rewards from the company. Therefore, the right sizing is big issue for the dimension
to excel the organization by best utilizing the human resource.

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS ON RIGHT SIZING


The resource dimension need to rotate the staff in many departments in the
organization to make them multitasking so at the time they can be fitted from the
excess department to in the department where is the shortage of employees.
Resource dimension need to hire the employees on contract bases and part time
employees so the staff can be fired after the project completion.

The organization need to best plan there activates to reduce the possibility
and need for right sizing.

The reduction in numbers to achieve right-sizing can be achieved in some ways


like freeze on non-essential recruitment, early retirement, voluntary severance etc.
