CHED SUGGESTED COURSE OUTLINE FOR

ENGLISH 2 - WRITING IN THE DISCIPLINE


COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to develop basic research and writing skills of students in their
specific discipline.
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the term, each student should be able to:
1. write coherent Research Paper through;
1.1.
identifying steps involved in preparing the library research paper,
1.2.
choosing an appropriate subject for the paper,
1.3.
preparing bibliography for the paper,
1.4.
reading purposefully and taking down notes correctly for the paper,
1.5.
formulating a thesis statement,
1.6.
writing an outline based on the outline,
1.7.
writing at least two drafts of the paper based on the outline,
1.8 showing intellectual honesty through proper acknowledgment of sources (library
research paper) and the proper presentation of facts (survey or interview data.)
2. utilize the interview or the surveys as a tool in research;
2.1. Interview Report
2.1.1. identifying and discuss the steps involved in conducting an interview;
2.1.2. select and identify the purpose of the interview;
2.1.3. organize and articulate guide questions;
2.1.4. conduct the interview; and
2.1.5. incorporate the interview data into the research paper.
2.2. Survey Report
2.2.1. identify the steps involved in conducting a survey report;
2.2.2. identify an objective for conducting a survey;
2.2.3. construct a questionnaire based on the objectives;
2.2.4. conduct the survey;
2.2.5. integrate the results of the survey with the research paper.
3. learn and apply the principles of business correspondence.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Completion of all in-class exercises and assignments.
2. Passing Grade for quizzes and tests.
3. Submission of a properly documented research paper written individually on an approved
topic (7-10 pages for text) to include interview or survey data. Final papers will be
accepted only after submission of all process requirements.
4. Competence in English grammar in all written and submitted work.
N.B. No student can pass the course unless he/she submits the final paper.
