17 Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are to:


1. expound the definition of Islamic ` Aqidah
and its related meanings.
2. highlight the fundamentals of Islamic
Aqidah.
3. relate and internalize the tawhidic teaching in
Muslim life, individual and societal.
4. discuss the challenges confronted by Muslim
from within and without
At the end of this course, students are expected to
have the ability to:

21 Course Synopsis

This course deals with the basic foundation of the


Islamic aqidah within the context of a holistic view
of the universe, from the perspective of tawhd. The
course also stresses on the sources of aqidah and
its objectives. Within this framework, students are
expected to learn the methodology of reasoning in
dealing with issues concerning aqidah. This course
also aims at guiding students to grasp certain
religious key-concepts such as dn, mn, ihsn,
firah, truth, ikhtiyr and amnah.

At the end of the programme, students are able to obtain the


following:

1. Knowledge: The ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of


the fundamental concepts and principles in Usul al-Dn and
Comparative Religion.
2. Practical Skills: The ability to apply and demonstrate the knowledge
they acquired from their studies into their lives spiritually,
intellectually, socially and professionally.
3. Social Skills and Responsibilities: The ability to acquire and use the
scientific methods with their critical and creative approaches, within
the boundaries of Islamic values, to solve problems related to
behavioural, cognitive and moral and spiritual issues
4. Values, Attitudes and Professionalism: The ability to appraise and
examine appropriately issues surrounding the Ummah and
formulate solutions for them.
5. Communication, Leadership and Team Skills: The ability to employ
the knowledge and skills they learned from the courses into their
social responsibilities in the context of ibadah.
6. Problem Solving and Scientific Skills: The ability to practice state-ofthe-art technology into their intellectual, personal, social and

represent the wasatiyyah or rightly balanced moderation of Islam as

correct Islamic position or perspectives on contemporary issues in a
multi religious and multi racial and multi cultural context.
9. Relevantization: The ability to provide solutional approaches to inter
religious issues pertaining to extremism, deviant teachings, human
rights issues and inter and intra religious conflicts.

Integration: The ability to integrate Usul al-Dn principles in
the study of philosophy, Islamic thought, civilizations, ideologies
and other religions.

Appendix:
The aims of the program:
1. To produce graduates who possess an integrated and holistic
approach to education and career based on Islam.

2. To produce graduates with correct understanding of the Islamic


worldview and how it relates to contemporary issues and
challenges.
3. To produce graduates who are well-versed in Islamic aqidah, Islamic
thought and dawah issues and are capable of assuming leadership
roles in society.
4. To produce graduates who possess an integrated and holistic
approach in understanding other religions, their communities,
worldviews and value systems.
