NEWSLETTER FOR JUNE 2016

Vol 62/Issue 17

This calendar is also on www.bhcare.org

FROM PRESIDENT JULIANNE M.

Hi everyone, I hope everyone your all enjoying the warm weather. I've
been busy working on the garden at home. Boy, May was a busy month!
The May is Mental Health celebrations went really well. Few people
know how much behind the scenes work it takes to put things together. I
want to thank all the staff for their efforts making May is Mental Health
possible. But there is still plenty going on at the club so
check the calendar on the back of the newsletter and come
on down and join us in the fun.

SYLVIA H. THE V.P.

Greetings, I think its safe to say summer is officially here. May was a
busy month for us. So now its time to kick back and take it easy. This
month we will be going to Stowes! My favorite restaurant by the beach.
And the prices are easy on the wallet. We are also having a pot luck
picnic. We are hoping for a good turnout. Watch for all the sign ups. One
other heads up. In June we will be collecting $2 for a special fourth of
July special bingo. See me or Julianne or staff when yourre ready to
donate. So lets everyone get in the fun. Cant wait to
see you at the club.

OUR SECRETARY PAULA B.

Come into our Social Club for all our activities. Its lots of fun playing
pool, painting and playing bingo. Supporting our sister clubs is important
too. Jacques does Enlightened lunch and cultural day. Recently we went
to the button Factory in Waterbury Ct. I was amazed at all the beautiful
buttons that were there. I am passionate about sewing so going there
was an experience that I will never forget.

1st Place WELLNESS

What does wellness mean to me?
Does it mean safety or stability?
Is about having friends and family
Or is it just about being content and happy
Finding what makes you complete is not that easy.
The thing about wellness and being complete
Finding yourself is a hard lifelong feet
Be it wealth, friends, or personal peace

DAY OF HOPE CONTEST

WINNERS!
CONGRATULATIONS TO
OUR WINNERS!
THANKS TO ALL WHO
PARTICIPATED IN THIS

The path you take is affected by each

So what is wellness to me? Its all up to chance
Everything in your life has to be in balance
Whether youre with friends or alone
Your life and your choices will make you feel home.

Eating three healthy meals a day,
Snacking healthy most of the time and

forgiving myself when I dont.

Walking with my good friend around the park
Enjoying the company air and sights.
Being with my grand-daughter she feeds my soul.
Cleaning my home and sorting my stuff, getting rid of clutter.
Taking a shower, washing my hair
Doing my nails, all of my ADLs
Cooking soup and tasty food,
Cleaning up my kitchen.
Learning new things inside my brain
By reading and taking groups.
Taking my meds,
Seeing my therapist, psychiatrist, and physicians too.
Meditation, Crosswords, Find-a-word, Television,
Picnics, and just being.
This is what Wellness means to me.

3rd Place-Aubrey L.
Wellness should be the ultimate

goal of everyone living on this planet

earth.
Wellness exist in several different
forms.

It was my desire for psychological

wellness that brought me to
Connecticut to get treatment
For Mental Illness such as obsessive
compulsive disorder
Depression, and anxiety.

There is financial, spiritual, physical

and emotional wellness.

I consider myself fortunate to have

attended the BHcare.

People who require Financial Wellness

Valley Social Club in Ansonia CT.

Are considered well off, well to do, or

Part of the Upper class among those
living in a community.
Psychological wellness can be more
difficult to achieve than Financial
wellness
Because it cannot be achieved by
wealth.

Because doing so, and becoming a

participant of the
Emotions Anonymous Peer Support
Group
Has enabled me to acquire Spiritual
and Emotional Health
And advise anyone seeking Emotional
and Spiritual Wellness

Anyone can be affected by

psychological illness

To attend the Emotion Anonymous

on Fridays at the club.

Regardless where they are Rich or

poor; young or old get treatment

People who attend this group will

definitely benefit from doing so.

complimented them on the variety of art work displayed.

AWAY AND FOREVER BY JOANN T.

The love of my heart,
My friend for life,
And I his wife.
Where ever we go. With or without,
Our moments never forgotten.
For without love, there would be no life.
Because love is ever lasting.

THE MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH LUNCHEON

The Commissioner of Mental Health could not attend as scheduled due to the
recent budget issues, but they sent a great representative in her place! Daryl
McGraw, the Associate Director from the Office of Recovery Community
Affairs. He spoke about recovery on a level any person attending could
understand. We even had three people from the community attend our event.
Daryl was well received by all four clubs. The OPTIONS Club, Fellowship
Place, Open Door Club along with our club were invited to annual event to
kick off May is Mental Health in the valley area. The fact that our speaker
shared his own recovery story with our attendees, took questions and answers from everyone in the room so graciously, made it a great success.
Following his speech we all enjoyed a buffet lunch from China Garden. We
would like to thank the Ansonia Recreation Director Jeff Coppola and the
town for allowing us to use the Ansonia Armory. Thanks to Rob and Courtney
for getting the chairs and table to the armory and back and doing the

extra lifting. We appreciate it. Thanks for staff and administrative

support that was great and Emily Granelli for helping us find this great
person !

CLUB MEMBERS SEE TWO ART SHOWS IN NEW HAVEN AND

BRANFORD
Hi Everybody and happy spring,
A group of us from the VSC went to see an art show or two! The first was May
4th sponsored by the Fellowship Place in New Haven. It was called the
expressive Arts Festival They held it on Temple Street. They had arts, music,
poetry, and drumming. It was so inspirational! Some of us participated in a
drumming circle that was fun! The refreshments were wonderful. It was for
a healthy mind, body, and spirit . I think it was truly spectacular and I am glad
we had an opportunity to go. Everything was created by people in recovery!
By Joyce O
The second show was our sister clubs in Branford. It was held at the
Blackstone Library. They had a wonderful display of art from many
different
artist. We enjoyed many of the works. They were so
wonderfully hung on the walls like a true art museum display. You
can tell they worked hard on their presentation.
They had some light hors doeures and they all were there to talk
about their art. We support them every year and we are happy to do
it! We hope we can show them our art at the Block Party on May
26th.
