WXB360

WAN Optimization for Medium and

Small-Scale Offices

Companies are looking to optimize their IT costs by consolidating servers and applications in data
centers. This trend is being accelerated by server virtualization, remote desktop and cloud computing
technologies. In this rapidly evolving and demanding environment satisfactory end-user experience
is critically dependent on excellent WAN performance.

OnePLUS
Solutions

ABOUT OneAccess
OneAccess designs and develops
a range of world-class multi-service routers for over 125 global
service provider customers including four of the top five operators
in Europe. This makes OneAccess
the number two branch office
router solution provider in the
world by volume.
With an international support
network operating from offices in
North America, Europe and Asia,
OneAccess is able to work closely and cooperatively with all its
clients throughout the development and roll-out phases for new
services.

However, increasing WAN capacity can become expensive without significantly improving user satisfaction. When using low capacity links or high-latency links such as satellite, pressure to optimize WAN traffic is even greater due to the challenging network conditions and limited bandwidth. WXB360 greatly
optimizes application performance, even in such highly constrained networks.
The WXB360 is a versatile platform consolidating comprehensive WAN optimization features
(application visibility, acceleration, compression and DRE simultaneously) with advanced routing,
security and QoS. The WXB360 is designed for medium to small-scale offices with TCP acceleration
up to 35 Mbps or up to 5 Mbps when TCP acceleration, compression and DRE are applied. The WXB360
is deployed on a customers LAN as a transparent bridge or a policy-based router.

Features

Benefits

Acceleration

Application responsiveness is greatly improved over links introducing

delays, such as satellite.

Compression and Data

Redundancy Elimination
(DRE)

File transfers profit from LAN-like speed. Bandwidth costs can be saved
by reducing data transfer up to 99%, while expanding the number of
concurrent users on a single line.

Quality of Experience (QoE)

Application aware QoS, policy-based (least cost) routing and firewall

combined with Acceleration and Compression to enhance missioncritical traffic.

Optimized VPN

A unique appliance integrating VPN Security and WAN Optimization to

provide a solution to the corporate market.

Acceleration, Compression and Data Redundancy Elimination Overview

TCP Acceleration
When network latency increases, applications may not fully utilize the available bandwidth.
Standard TCP implementations include flow controls, which greatly affect application throughput when
encountering high latencies and/or packet loss. TCP acceleration with the WXB360 mitigates the
effects of network latencies and manages TCP flow control in such a way that WAN bandwidth
utilization is maximized faster. There is no specific end station modification since TCP sessions are
intercepted transparently. The embedded TCP proxy does not change IP addresses or ports and is
tightly integrated with the WXB360 QoS and VPN modules to deliver optimum flow control performance. TCP bandwidth is also optimized by reducing TCP chattiness.

Compression
All TCP flows, including HTTP, are compressed, covering also GZIP-enabled browsers. Within a TCP stream,
connection-persistent GZIP-like compression greatly enhances compression efficiency. The on-board
compression technology makes sure that packets sent over the WAN are minimized in size to reduce
the impact of overheads in application performance (consequently improving the ratio between
application data and network bandwidth utilization).

Data Redundancy Elimination (DRE)

Users often send and receive repetitive traffic patterns. Common examples are updating Microsoft Sharepoint or similar Cloud-based
documents and sending/receiving emails. Opening a file on such remote resource to edit it before saving it results mostly in transferring
twice very similar data over the WAN. Similarly, most sent emails only add some text to the original text. And there are more examples of
applications generating significant amounts of redundant data.
Leveraging a 60Gb SSD disk for its dictionary with its unique management algorithm, NetBooster DRE technology is transparent and independent from the transmitted content. It is therefore efficient for all types of traffic including text, image and video intensive applications.
NetBooster is particularly useful in enterprise networks migrating to a private Cloud infrastructure. By ensuring that only new parts of the
documents are transmitted over the network, this can result in very significant bandwidth savings: the file is compressed when it is transmitted for the first time. The second time it is transferred, redundant bit streams are identified by NetBooster and replaced by lightweight
labels thus enabling near LAN-like performance for end-users.

Visibility and QoS Technology Overview

High Performance Deep Packet Inspection
The WXB360 benefits from OneAccess Visibility technology thanks to a high-speed Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) engine for application
recognition as an approach to guaranteeing QoS for different applications. By analyzing traffic based on a range of protocols that run on
top of TCP/UDP, the WXB360 distinguishes between different applications and reports to the OneAPM server or NetFlow collector to provide
traffic Visibility.

Traffic QoS
The WXB360 features advanced QoS functionalities such as Priority, Shaping and User Fairness to prioritize applications based on business
requirements.

Built-in QoE Troubleshooting Tools

Troubleshooting users complaints related to poor Quality of Experience (QoE) requires significant time and effort without the adequate
tools. The WXB360 records a history of all processed flows with detailed per-flow application performance metrics. The data are split
in LAN and WAN metrics with a selection of detailed graphs to enable the user to choose the granularity of information to be observed.
Granular views are supported using a drill-down feature, for instance to select specific flows matching certain criteria. The root cause of
poor QoE can be thus quickly isolated remotely, be it a server, LAN or network issue, without installing a costly network probe or sending
a skilled engineer on site.

Turn-Key Solution, Based on Open Standards

OneAccess provides an off-the-shelf solution with OneAPM, an Application Performance Monitoring (APM) server. The NetAPM reporting
interface uses open standards, to enable easy integration with existing IT systems including industry standard Netflow V9 records with
documented OneAccess extensions.
